What’s with all the hype about the Boll & Branch Sheets? Today we’re reviewing the Classic Hemmed Sheet Set to help you decide whether these sheets really are worth the money.

Boll & Branch are dedicated to fair trade, organic production, sustainable materials, and green shipping of goods from India to the US.

With thousands of positive reviews, it really seems that they are the best sheets these people have tried. Let’s take a quick look at the pros and cons for the beginning.

Pros and cons

ProsCons
– lightweight
– organic
– 17” deep fitted sheets
– lovely colors available
– high price
– not ideal for hot weather
– some customers complained of them feeling “scratchy and too thin”

We like that the touch and feel of these sheets is truly soft, but if you are used to thicker/heavier sheets they could be a problem for you. If there are stitches in your mattress you will probably feel them through the sheets.

This company is not a “bed-in-a-box”, DTC (direct to consumer), online-only company and it makes organic cotton products that are literally shipped to the US (Boll and Branch avoid airplanes because of their carbon emissions so they transport goods by ships) – all of this adds to the price. They are not cheap, but at least you get a risk-free 30-night trial period. That is more than enough time to decide whether or not you like them.

You can see that we listed “not ideal for hot weather” under cons – this is because these sheets have a high thread count which makes the air less able to travel through the sheet itself, so if you sweat, they could stick to your body and make sleeping less comfortable (we recommend buying Tencel sheets if you’re a hot sleeper).

The fitted sheet is very wide and it goes all around your mattress, which is great when you have a thick mattress. We think this is a plus because even if the sheet is too wide, you can tuck it in. Some people did find this a problem, and we guess it’s because of the specific bed frame and mattress thickness they use.

Price

We’re not big fans of the price. Although they feel very soft and cozy and the company claims to use sustainable materials and care about the environment, an average consumer will find this set expensive. One of the main complaints about the product is that it doesn’t seem as special and out-of-this-world as the price suggests.

  • Twin XL – $190
  • Full – $220
  • Queen – $240
  • King – $250

Material

Made of 100% long-staple organic cotton with a sateen weave, these sheets feel silky smooth and soft. After some time of use, the sheets will become softer. They feel super lightweight, so if you like heavier sheets, these may not be for you.

When looking for the proof of quality, you shouldn’t focus on the thread count as much as on the fact that they used long cotton threads to make more durable sheets. On the other hand; sateen itself tends to pill, snag, or tear easily.

The sheets get wrinkly quickly – that’s what sateen naturally is like and it’s something you can easily get used to (if it concerns you at all).

The Boll & Branch sheets keep a neutral temperature so you shouldn’t get too hot nor too cold.

About Boll & Branch

Boll & Branch was founded by a couple – Scott and Missy Tannen. They say that one of the main reasons they started the company was because they wanted to learn about the inhumane conditions in which some third-world-country people are forced to work.

Boll & Branch goes even further than simply producing organic cotton – they use recycled paper packaging, they ship their products, and they claim to support Indian farmers with decent salaries.
