Puffy mattress review
Puffy offers two different models of their award-winning memory foam mattress: Puffy and Puffy Lux. The standard Puffy is a three-layer 10″ memory foam mattress that has a polyfoam support core that is designed to provide support and balance. The Puffy Lux mattress is a 12″ four-layer mattress that gives all of the same features as the regular Puffy but with an extra layer of their proprietary “Body Adapting Plush Dual Cloud Foam”. The Puffy Lux mattress also comes in a hybrid version which includes the addition of a contour-adapt coil base.
The two major takeaways from our review of the Puffy mattresses is that pressure relief and conforming to your body shape were the biggest benefits. The only major drawback we found was that it had weak edge support, which can reduce the longevity of your mattress.
What type of sleeper should sleep on the Puffy Mattress?
After extensive testing and feedback from real customers, we’ve determined that Puffy memory foam mattress is best suited for side and back sleepers whereas Puffy Lux is ideal for side and combination sleepers. Both mattresses are also great for sleepers who are of average weight or lower. We found that for sleepers who are well above average weight (weighing more than 220 lbs), the memory foam did not provide enough support. But for the vast majority of people, this mattress will provide the perfect balance of support and softness.
You should buy Puffy if you:
- Enjoy the feeling of sleeping on memory foam
- Want an affordable memory foam mattress
- Sleep with a partner and wake up easily from movement
- Live somewhere that has extreme differences in weather between seasons
- Are of average weight or lower
- Tend to sleep hot

You should buy Puffy Lux if you:
- Prefer a plusher, medium feel mattress
- Are willing to spend a little bit more
- Share a bed with a partner and want a bed that offers great motion isolation
- Tend to sleep hot
- Are of average weight or lower
- Want the added bounce and support of an innerspring mattress (with the Puffy Lux Hybrid)

A closer look at the Puffy mattress
Puffy mattress is 100% manufactured in the USA, meaning that it is required to conform to stringent health and safety standards. Here at Sleepline, we almost always recommend that you purchase a mattress that was made in either the United States or Canada for that specific reason.
It is available at a very affordable price level: prices start at $495 for a Twin Puffy and increase as the size increases. Puffy also offers a lifetime warranty that is designed to protect you in case of a manufacturer’s defect. Not many mattress companies offer lifetime warranties. This goes to show that Puffy means business when it come to their mattresses.
You’ll also get a 101 night free trial. If you’re not completely satisfied, they’ll refund your order with free return shipping. Since this mattress isn’t available for in-store purchase, this definitely removes some of the risk associated with buying sight-unseen.
Puffy has also been Certi-Pur certified. This rigorous certification ensures that the mattress was manufactured without the use of harmful, toxic chemicals that can damage your health.
Now that we’ve got the basics out of the way, let’s take an in-depth look at the key features of the Puffy mattress.
Puffy mattress has a medium firm feel. This level of firmness should be extremely comfortable for the vast majority of sleepers who don’t have a specific preference. A medium firm bed is scientifically proven to be beneficial for side sleepers, back and stomach sleepers.
This mattress is most ideal for side sleepers, since the memory foam adjusts to accommodate the curves of your body. But since it has a medium level of firmness, it provides adequate support for stomach and back sleepers as well. If you sleep with a partner who sleeps in a different position and you don’t want to be disturbed by their movement, this mattress is great for you as it offers excellent motion isolation.
Although most stomach and side sleepers will find that the Puffy memory foam mattress provides more than enough support, a small minority will want an even firmer mattress. In that case, you should definitely take advantage of Puffy’s 101-night money back guarantee.
Since Puffy is a premium mattress, the manufacturer has taken great care to use high-quality components when constructing this mattress. Of course, using high-quality materials helps to extend the lifespan of your mattress. The lower layer of the mattress is designed to help provide support, helping it maintain its shape over time.
Some customers have noted that Puffy doesn’t have the best edge support. Strong edge support is one of the key factors that extends the lifespan of a mattress, so this could be something to consider.
It is, however, important to note that we haven’t received any reports of the mattress falling apart early. So at this point, the weak edge support being a negative is just theoretical. All customers report that their Puffy is doing just fine throughout its lifespan.
We estimate that a Puffy mattress will last an average of 15 years of normal use. The mattress does have a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects.
Puffy constructs their mattresses with the goal of contouring to your body shape, giving you adequate support and comfort. The Puffy mattress is 10 inches thick and features 3 layers.
The interior of the mattress contains two layers of foam. The first layer consists of 3 inches of gel foam. Gel foam is great at transferring body heat away, helping you stay cool while you sleep. Maintaining a cool temperature is one of the most important aspects of sleep hygiene, the best practices that you should follow to get a night of high quality sleep.
The layer of gel foam is also designed to contour to the shape of your body while simultaneously providing support. This helps to take pressure off of your sore joints and aching back.
Underneath the layer of gel foam is an additional layer consisting of 7 inches of high density foam. This layer is designed to provide structural support to the gel layer. It also helps support your spine and accommodate a variety of sleeping styles.
The Puffy mattress now also comes with an all-new stain resistant cover. It is removable and washable which helps in keeping your mattress clean and fresh at all times.
As previously mentioned, maintaining a cool temperature is extremely critical if you want to get a night of high quality sleep. Therefore, the ability of a mattress to wick away body heat is one of the key factors that you should evaluate when choosing which one to purchase.
We’re pleased to report that Puffy does a phenomenal job of pushing away heat and keeping your body temperature nice and cool while you sleep. The 3-inch top layer of gel foam is responsible for dissipating the heat away from your body throughout the night.
Since the gel contours to the shape of your body without allowing you to sink in too deeply, it prevents the heat from building up around your body and reducing the quality of your shuteye. The breathable cover of this mattress allows air to circulate freely and lets heat escape.
Bottom line: if you want to stay cool at night, the Puffy mattress will help.

A closer look at Puffy Lux
If you like what the Puffy memory foam mattress can offer but want something a little bit extra then Puffy Lux is for you. Puffy Lux is Puffy’s bestselling mattress to date. The reason that it remains a firm favorite is that it hits that sweet little spot between hard and soft, which is what most people prefer.
As with all of Puffy’s products, Puffy Lux is made entirely in the USA and meets all the stringent quality standards. This makes it easier for returns and exchanges as well.
While Puffy is on the more affordable side, The Puffy Lux is slightly more expensive starting at $1,145 for a Twin sized memory foam mattress. It also comes in a hybrid which also starts at the same price point as its memory foam counterpart. Again, as with all of Puffy’s mattresses, they offer a lifetime warranty which covers manufacturer’s defects as well as a 101 night risk-free trial.
All of Puffy’s mattresses are CertiPur-US certified and feature an all-new stain resistant cover that is removable and washable. All of Puffy’s mattress covers are Oeko-Tex Standard Certified.
Featuring a luxurious (hence the name) medium plush feel, Puffy Lux offers a sleep experience that is, according to some verified reviews, akin to sleeping on a cloud. This is due to Puffy’s proprietary Body Adapting Dual Cloud foam that minimizes strain on the body’s main pressure points. If you are a strict side sleeper, this is very important as side sleepers tend to wake up with sore shoulders and hips if they sleep on a firmer mattress.
But back and stomach sleepers will also enjoy the support that Puffy Lux gives. Even though the word plush can connote visions of sinking into a cloud of cotton, Puffy Lux’s Firm Core Support layer helps in keeping the spine aligned while eliminating pressure points. That said, strict back sleepers may benefit more from a firmer mattress.
Those who sleep with a partner will find that Puffy Lux offers excellent motion isolation, even with the slight bounce of the hybrid.
Just like the standard Puffy, Puffy Lux is made with premium materials sourced in the USA and is manufactured with strict quality control measures in place. This gives it a leg up against other mattress brands who source their materials and manufacturing elsewhere.
There has been no reports of Puffy Lux breaking down or apart, even with years of continued use. In fact, the reviews on Puffy Lux’s longevity has been superb.
Should your Puffy Lux mattress come with any manufacturing defects, their lifetime warranty is going to take care of that.
Both the all-foam and hybrid versions of Puffy Lux are 12 inches thick and feature 4 memory foam layers, with the addition of pocketed coils for the hybrids. Both versions offer the same level of comfort and support. It all comes down to preference.
Puffy Lux’s first two layers are made up of their Cooling Cloud and Plush Dual Cloud layers. The perfect marriage of these two symbiotic layers will give you great pressure relief while helping to keep you cool while you sleep.
Its high density comfort transition layer provides another stratum of comfort while also giving you enhanced spinal alignment. For the hybrid, the addition of coils provides just another reason for hot sleepers to love it – coils promote better air flow hence making the mattress even cooler to sleep on.
The bottom layer consists of Puffy’s Firm Core support layer that can be found in all of Puffy’s mattresses.
We keep stressing the importance of maintaining an overall cool temperature to be able to get a good night’s sleep. Studies show that temperature is one of the main factors that keep people from getting comfortable enough to be able to rest. A cool room is important, but a mattress that will trap heat will destroy the quality of your sleep even if your room’s temperature is fairly cool.
Puffy knows this and has made sure that almost all of the layers of Puffy Lux has extra cooling properties. Even with is plush firm feel, you won’t feel as though you are being enveloped by the bed. Add to that Puffy’s cooling cloud technology and their use of climate-adaptive materials, your temperature is kept evenly regulated all throughout.

Puffy offers a generous lifetime warranty on all of their mattresses. This warranty really is a standout feature, since the industry standard is only 10 years, 15 at the most. The warranty is limited to manufacture defects that occurred during the construction and you are covered for as long as you own it.
So how does the warranty actually work in practice? Is the company difficult to work with or do they actually live up to their promises?
If you notice the fault within the first 10 years of owning your mattress, Puffy will simply replace it. Once 10 years has elapsed, Puffy will attempt to repair your mattress. If repair isn’t feasible they will send out a replacement.
You will have to pay an upfront $50 shipping fee to return your mattress to Puffy. The company will refund that fee if they determine that there is in fact a manufacturing defect.
Manufacturing faults that are covered by Puffy’s warranty include (but are not limited to):
- Indentation in the mattress exceeding an inch-and-a-half
- Defects in the cover
- Zip fastener malfunction
Puffy offers a 101-night sleep trial for all of their mattresses. This trial period is standard within the industry. It’s not the most generous but definitely not the worst either.
You can return your mattress with no questions asked at any point during the first 101 nights after purchase. You’ll receive 100% of your money back and you can return it for any reason or even no reason at all. So if you decide to buy a Puffy Mattress and eventually realize that it isn’t quite as comfortable as you thought it would be, simply contact the company.
Once you notify Puffy that you want to return your mattress, they will arrange free collection and shipping. You won’t have to spend a single cent when returning the mattress if you aren’t happy with it during the trial period.
It’s important to note that you can only take advantage of this offer if you buy your mattress directly from Puffy’s website. Puffy will only honor the free trial period for the original purchaser. If for some reason you decide to sell your mattress during the first 101 nights after buying it, the new purchaser will not be covered by the free trial offer.
You can rest easy knowing that your returned mattress won’t be dumped in a landfill somewhere. Puffy donates all returned mattresses to worthy causes, so you’ll be helping someone who can’t afford it gain access to a high quality mattress.
Care and maintenance
It’s always important to care for your mattress if you want to extend its lifespan. Fortunately, Puffy makes their mattresses extremely easy to maintain.
If you spill or stain your mattress, you can spot clean it the same way you would any other mattress. If the stain is large, you can remove the cover and wash it in a machine.
You definitely shouldn’t flip your Puffy mattress, since it’s designed to be slept on only one side. We do recommend rotating your mattress (flipping it so the head end becomes the foot end) a few times per year so you don’t put too much pressure on one end of the mattress. This will make sure that your mattress lasts as long as possible.
