The Leesa Plus Hybrid is a mattress that’s designed specifically for heavyweight people. Leesa’s marketing claims that it’ll ‘never sink or sag’. I ran the mattress through Sleepline’s series of hands-on performance tests to find out if it lives up to those claims. Here’s what I thought about it.

My experience with the Leesa Plus Hybrid

While the Leesa Plus Hybrid did not particularly wow me with any outstanding features, that’s not to say that it did not work as it should.

In fact, the Leesa Plus Hybrid is consistent when it comes to its overall performance – there just wasn’t anything notably exceptional that we, as consumers, have come to expect from mattresses these days.

I can attest to the fact that it can hold up to 500 pounds of weight which makes it ideal for heavier-set sleepers.

One thing of note though is that if you’re a heavier-set stomach sleeper, you will find it to be a little too soft. It may not provide the extra lumbar support you need.

Firmness Test

The Leesa Plus Hybrid sits on a 6 on the mattress firmness scale which gives it a medium-firm feel.

This firmness level is usually good for all sleeper types.

Do note that heavier-set sleepers will experience it more to be a true medium.

Stomach sleepers who weigh 400 pounds may find it to be too soft to help them achieve proper spinal alignment which will cause issues in the long run.

Pressure Relief and Comfort Test

We rate the Leesa Plus Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The responsive foam is great for relieving pain from pressure points (hips, shoulders, etc.)

The combination of proprietary foam blends and a substantial coil unit offers enough pressure point relief and responsive support for heavier-set sleepers who sleep on their backs or their sides.

Cooling Test

We rate the Leesa Plus Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Though not the best I’ve tried by far, the cooling capabilities of the Leesa Plus Hybrid is not the worst either.

Cooling gel-infused foam, a breathable cover, and a coil unit for continuous airflow keeps the mattress fresh and cool enough for hot sleepers.

Motion Transfer Test

We rate the Leesa Plus Hybrid a 6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

The thick coil unit of the Leesa Plus Hybrid unfortunately adds to the mattress’ overall springiness and the thin foam layers don’t really do much in terms of absorption.

This means you will feel a significant amount of motion transfer if you share a bed with a partner.

Edge Support Test

We rate the Leesa Plus Hybrid a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The edge support wasn’t the greatest

True, the Leesa Plus Hybrid contains reinforced edge coils but for some reason I experienced something of an anomaly where the support was concentrated inwards.

So while I could lay on the edge without falling off, sitting on the edge is a whole other problem.

Construction

There are five layers to the Leesa Plus Hybrid mattress.

These layers come encased in a moisture-wicking, breathable cover made from viscose fibers.

The Leesa Plus Hybrid is made with five different layers

The top comfort layer of the Leesa Plus Hybrid is made up of gel-infused quilt foam – a memory foam alternative that provides the same compression as traditional memory foam but without any of the sinkage.

The second layer is made up of a responsive high airflow foam that helps provide more support.

The transition layer is made up of a high density transition layer that also helps provide targeted support.

The coil unit of the Leesa Plus Hybrid is made up of 981 individually-pocketed coils that provide extra zoned support.

The base layer of the Leesa Plus Hybrid is made up of a higher-density foam that helps hold the upper layers together while also providing stability.

Durability

There’s no doubt that Leesa produces quality mattresses using only premium quality materials.

The Leesa Plus Hybrid is no exception.

Given that it is meant for heavier-set sleepers, wear and tear might come quickly though (considering it’s affordable price point).

Conclusion

The Leesa Plus Hybrid is a mid-range priced mattress that is specifically designed for heavier-set sleepers.

While it could use a little work when it comes to its motion isolating properties, it provides more than enough support for heavier-set sleepers who sleep on their backs or sides.
