My experience with the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid

Right off the bat, I have to say that the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid is probably the most consistently cooling mattress that I’ve ever tried and let me tell you, I’ve tried a lot.

Another thing I liked about the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid is its dual coil construction (which not a lot of hybrid mattresses have).

Having two sets of coil units gives you double the support, which is beneficial for those weigh well above average as well as for those who share a bed.

Overall, I found the mattress to perform consistently well across the board. My only gripe with it is perhaps its price point (this mattress is expensive)

Firmness Test

The Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid sits squarely at a 5 on the mattress firmness scale, giving it a true medium feel.

While this firmness level is good for all sleeper types, it may feel too soft for heavyweight sleepers who weigh more than 400 lbs., so it’s best to manage your expectations when it comes to firmness.

Pressure Relief and Comfort Test

We rate the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The mattress does a good job at relieving pain from pressure points.

The Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid is made from multiple layers of foam, including a proprietary gel memory foam.

Based on my tests, the gel memory foam doesn’t sink in quite as much as traditional memory foam.

The hybrid coil core support layer probably helps a lot here. It sits underneath the foam and provides a solid base that prevents you from sinking in too deep, so you feel cradled rather than smothered (which is unfortunately common with regular memory foam mattresses).

Cooling Test

We rate the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

This is where the mattress really shines.

The actively-cooling materials are nothing particularly high-tech or cutting edge – just an ultra-cooling cover (that actually does what the marketing says it does, rare in the mattress industry), gel-infused memory foam, open-celled airflow foam and two coil units.

But the components work well together.

During my hands-on sleep test I didn’t sweat or even once wake up feeling overheated.

Motion Transfer Test

We rate the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid a 7 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Motion isolation is just OK, however.

Although not exactly top-tier, the motion isolating properties of the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid aren’t the worst either.

You’ll feel a tiny amount of motion transfer if you share the bed with a partner, mostly because of its dual coil construction (that’s the unfortunate tradeoff for getting a mattress with excellent pressure point relief).

Edge  Support Test

We rate the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

It has reinforced edge coils for extra support.

Reinforced edge coils surround the perimeter of the mattress.

While that alone gives it extra edge support, it’s not quite as strong as I would have liked.

Still, you won’t find exactly yourself rolling off the edge of the bed. The edge support isn’t bad, it just isn’t a standout feature.

Construction

There are six layers to the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid mattress.

These layers come encased in a breathable mattress cover that contains cooling fibers to help draw heat away from the mattress.

Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid in the Sleepline Testing Studio
The Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid is made out of both foam and coils (aka hybrid construction).

The first comfort layer is made up of quilt foam with cooling gel that reduces heat retention and provides pressure point relief.

Below that comes a layer of supportive memory foam that’s adaptable and responsive, which again helps with pressure relief.

A layer of micro-coils comes next. This layer helps evenly distribute weight for better support.

The transition layer is made up of responsive Airflow foam that’s open-celled for breathability. The foam was quite responsive during my performance tests, and did a great job at providing support.

The main coil unit is made up to 1032 individually-wrapped spring coils that help provide targeted support as well as lumbar support.

The base layer is made up of high-density foam that helps hold the top layers together while also providing stability.

Durability

I was very impressed with the quality and safety of the components.

The construction on this mattress is top-notch. Everything feels high-end and well-made, even tiny details like the stitching on the cover that most people don’t notice.

I expect that it will hold up well over the long run. You can expect a minimum of ten years of comfort life (assuming proper care and maintenance)

Like all other Leesa mattresses, the Legend Chill Hybrid is made in-house in the USA.

Where to buy the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid mattress

You can find the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid mattress on Amazon but the best place to buy it is on the official Leesa website.

I always recommend buying directly from the manufacturer when available. It’s a good way to cover your bases when it comes to customer service support and warranty protection.

Companies always treat you better when you’re a direct customer.

Conclusion

The Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid is Leesa’s flagship mattress.

Its cooling capabilities are its main selling point, and I have to say that they’re among the best I’ve ever experienced. This mattress really does sleep cool.

It also did very well in my comfort and pressure relief tests. Edge support was slightly above-average, and motion transfer was nothing to write home about.

This is definitely a mattress that should be on your short list if you’re a hot sleeper with the budget to spend on a really good brand that uses high-quality materials.
