Amerisleep AS1 review

For those of us who prefer to sleep on a harder surface, Amerisleep’s AS1 is their thinnest and firmest mattress on offer within their extensive mattress selection ranging from the AS1, which is very firm to the AS5, which is their very soft mattress offering.

Marketed towards those who sleep on their backs and stomachs, AS1 is also a great choice for those of us who suffer from chronic neck and back pain because a firmer surface provides better support and alignment. This is not to say that sleeping on the AS1 is like sleeping on the floor – it just has slightly less ‘give’ than all of Amerisleep’s other mattress choices.

Buy: Amerisleep AS1, $899+ from Amerisleep.com

Who should buy the AS1?

As mentioned previously, the AS1 was made with back and stomach sleepers in mind. Those who also suffer from any sort of neck and back pain may benefit greatly by sleeping on a mattress such as the AS1. Based on a lot of other reviews, many of those who are on the plus side have found that sleeping on a firm mattress such as the AS1 to be more comfortable than sleeping on a softer one. Also, if you tend to sleep hot, sleeping on a firmer mattress may help keep you cool because rather than sleeping “within” the mattress on a softer model, you would essentially be laying on top of it, allowing the air to circulate around you freely. As with all their mattresses, Amerisleep utilizes a plant based Bio-Pur memory foam alternative which features an open cell design that wicks away any warm air, allowing you to stay cool all night.

It’s important to note that if you do sleep with a partner, both your preferences should be taken into consideration and Amerisleep has a lot of other mattress offerings for you to choose from so you and your partner can find that happy medium.

Amerisleep AS1
AS1 is Amerisleep’s firmest mattress

Unlike traditional memory foam, Amerisleep’s proprietary Bio-Pur memory foam has a rapid response time (seconds!) so no matter how much you toss and turn throughout the night, there will be none of that “sinking” feeling. The AS1 provides ample support while providing great pressure relief – again, thanks to their Bio-Pur comfort layer – which contours to your body and relieves pain causing pressure points. The AS1 stays firm all throughout, even on the edges so if you’re an edge sleeper (yes, there are edge sleepers), then you have no danger of sliding off on the AS1.

Although the reviews have mostly been amazing, a few people have found that they needed a week or two to get used to the firmness while others have found the AS1 to be a bit too hard for their liking but Amerisleep has a great return and exchange policy as well as their 100 night trial so it’s not going to be at all difficult to find an Amerisleep mattress for you that’s just right.

As with all of Amerisleep’s mattresses, there are two layers of foam making up the mattress’ body which is encased in a zippered, removable and breathable Celliant cover. Celliant turns your body heat into infrared energy, promoting local circulation and cell oxygenation while keeping you dry and at the perfect temperature so not only will you keep cool while you sleep, there should be none of that pesky nights sweats either.

You may notice we have been mentioning Bio-Pur quite a lot in this review and that’s with good reason – Bio-Pur is a special memory foam created entirely by Amerisleep for all of their mattress models.  Bio-Pur is plant based, eco-friendly, cooling and supportive as well as being CertiPur-US certified and low in VOCs. It is also resistant to dust mites, mold and mildew and is made without any harsh chemicals. Bio-Pur makes up the first layer of foam on all the mattresses that Amerisleeps offer and makes up the first 2 inches of the AS1.

The base layer is made up of another proprietary foam that Amerisleep makes which is their Bio-Core foam. It is a high density foam which provides the base layer for all of Amerisleep’s mattresses and makes up for 8 inches as the base on the AS1 making it much firmer than most memory foam mattresses and Amerisleep’s firmest mattress to date.

While there can be some off gassing upon initial use of any mattress, we have found that Amerisleep’s mattresses have little to none, although there can be that ‘new mattress smell’. If that bothers you, then we suggest airing out the mattress for a few days in a well ventilated room before use.

All of Amerisleep’s mattresses are made in the USA and have a 20 year warranty and they pride themselves on providing quality craftsmanship and amazing customer service and so far we have no complaints.

Buy: Amerisleep AS1, $899+ from Amerisleep.com

Sizes and Pricing

The AS1 comes in 7 sizes and you have the option to purchase a separate corresponding foundation from Amerisleep should you wish to do so. While Amerisleep’s prices are on par with other high-end premium mattress brands, they are cheaper than some you can find in the market.

  • Twin (38” x 74”) – $629
  • Twin XL (38” x 80”) – $664
  • Full (54” x 75”) – $804
  • Queen (60” x 80”) – $909
  • King (76” x 80”) – $1119
  • California King (72” x 84”) – $1119
  • Split King (38” x 80” – 2) – $ 1328

Although we need a wee bit more time to get past beyond Amerisleep’s extensive 20 year warranty, we have been quite happy with Amerisleep’s mattress offerings thus far. There’s a reason why the AS1 has been drawing rave reviews with people claiming that their aches and pains have all but disappeared and that they have had the best sleep of their lives (even with a snoring partner). Some people have even gone so far as to say that sleeping on the AS1 felt like they have gotten a deep tissue massage!

So if you’re a back or stomach sleeper (or both) and you suffer from chronic pain, you may not have to look any further to get the sleep that you so deserve.

Amerisleep AS2 review

To date, there are 7.8 Billion people in the world. That means 7.8 Billion people around the world; from different countries, cultures and races but all with one common, basic need – sleep. But just like how every human has different tastes and varying likes or dislikes, every one of us have different sleeping preferences and Amerisleep has an answer for each one, no matter whether you sleep on your back, side, stomach or a combo of all three.

The AS2 is Amerisleep’s second firmest mattress that they offer, only slightly less firm than their firmest mattress which is the AS1.

Buy: Amerisleep AS2, $1049+ from Amerisleep.com

Who should buy the AS2?

Primarily made for those who sleep on their backs and stomachs, a good number of side sleepers have found that they were able to sleep comfortably on the AS2 as well. Those who have various medical conditions involving their neck and back can benefit from sleeping on a firm mattress such as the AS2. It has even been prescribed by chiropractors as the AS2 is known for its exceptional spinal alignment and lumbar support.

As with Amerisleep’s firmest mattress on offer, the AS2 is perfect for those who also sleep hot since a firmer surface area has a lot less ‘give’ than a soft mattress hence allowing the sleeper to lay on top of the mattress rather than ‘in’ it. Add to that, Amerisleep’s proprietary memory foam alternative, BioPur, which utilizes an open cell design that allows air to flow freely and prevents heat build-up as you sleep coupled with a breathable outer cover made from Celliant which gives added comfort and assurance for hot sleepers by turning body heat into infrared.

Although side sleepers can sleep well and without any problems on the AS2, a few people have found that the firmness placed unwanted pressure on their hips and shoulders, especially those who are on the heavier side but not to worry, Amerisleep has 3 other mattresses on offer that are softer.

Couples who share the same bed have also found that the AS2 has excellent motion isolation, meaning if you have a partner that tends to get up and then come back to bed multiple times a night, you won’t unintentionally be woken up by the mattress moving about.

Amerisleep AS2 mattress
AS2 is slightly less firm than AS1

While the AS2 is marketed as being medium firm, it is not Amerisleep’s firmest bed on offer (that honor goes to the AS1). Although with very similar features and benefits, the AS2 is for those who prefer a slightly softer mattress than the AS1.

All of Amerisleep’s mattresses are made with BioPur, a memory foam alternative that Amerisleep has created and unlike memory foam, BioPur has such a rapid response time that no matter if you move about while you sleep, there will none of that sinking feeling that one could get from traditional foam mattresses which could sometimes be disconcerting whilst you sleep. The AS2’s BioPur topmost comfort layer contours to your body and relieves pain causing pressure points while its second layer, another innovation from Amerisleep – their HIVE transition layer –  provides added support to the head, back and legs. Not only that, it also gives side sleepers extra cushion for their hips and shoulders.

While the reviews have been mostly raves all throughout for the AS2, there are a few people who have found it to be too hard while others have found it to be too soft. Again, it all boils down to personal preferences and needs. If for any reason you find yourself unsatisfied with Amerisleep’s AS2, their excellent return and exchange policy can help you find the mattress to suit your needs perfectly. Amerisleep also offers a 100 night trial so you can try out the AS2 and see if you are ready to make the commitment.

Differing slightly from the AS1 with the addition of a second layer, the AS2 is made up of three layers: the BioPur memory foam alternative making up the first 2 inches, the HIVE transition foam layer making up the middle 3 inches and the base is made up of 7 inches of a polyfoam blend making up a total of 12 inches of pure comfort.

Made with renewable plant based oils, BioPur helps prevent the use of non-renewable resources and Amerisleep is making a consistent effort to produce products that are not only good for you but also better for the environment. BioPur is also Certi-Pur US certified and is low on VOCs which helps minimize the incident of off-gassing. While the unavoidable ‘new mattress’ smell may be present upon initial use, we have found that a little airing out in a well ventilated room can help matters greatly.

Amerisleep also offers the AS2 as a hybrid – which combines the pressure relieving benefits of memory foam and the bounce of pocketed coils. Again, it is up to you and what you feel most comfortable with.

Amerisleep AS3 review

Amerisleep AS3 (coupon code: SLEEPLINE) is our number one recommendation for people who are overwhelmed and unsure of which mattress to purchase. We like the medium firmness level, the customer service from Amerisleep, and the reasonable price.

Amerisleep is one of our favorite brands here at Sleepline. In fact, I personally sleep on an AS5 so I can verify the quality: this brand is legit.

When you look at Amerisleep’s website, you’ll see that they offer five different models: AS1-AS5. The numbers represent the firmness level of the mattress. AS1 is the most firm and you can work your way down to the AS5, which is their softest offering.

AS3 sits right in the middle and thus occupies a sweet spot in Amerisleep’s product offering. It’s available in both memory foam and hybrid (memory foam + coils) configurations.

We’ll start the review by analyzing which type of sleeper this mattress is designed for. We’ll then move on to the different features of the mattress. The final section of the review features information about the company.

Buy: Amerisleep AS3 Mattress, $1149+ from Amerisleep.com

Who should buy Amerisleep AS3?

We like to think of the AS3 as being a well-rounded mattress that is great for the needs of the vast majority of people.

The medium firmness level is great for all sleeping positions: side, back, and stomach. That means that the AS3 is a good choice if you sleep next to a partner who has a different sleeping position than you. That’s because we generally recommend soft beds to side sleepers and firm beds for back sleepers. If you’re a combination sleeper, then the AS3 will certainly meet your needs.

You should buy the AS3 if you:

  • Switch sleeping positions throughout the night
  • Sleep next to a partner who has a different sleeping position
  • Want a premium memory foam or hybrid mattress
  • Can’t decide which mattress to buy

The AS3 operates in the sweet spot between super-soft and extremely firm mattresses. As we mentioned earlier, Amerisleep offers five different firmness levels: AS1 – AS5. AS3 is right in the middle, thus making it ideal if you aren’t sure which one to choose.

We recommend mattresses that have a medium level of firmness to people who shift their sleeping position throughout the night. If you start off the night on your side but wake up on your back or stomach, then this is a great mattress that will keep you comfortable throughout the night.

We also like the AS3 for people who sleep next to a partner who has different needs. If you’re a side sleeper who likes soft beds and you sleep next to someone who is a back sleeper and wants a firm mattress, then the AS3 is the ultimate compromise.

Amerisleep AS3 on platform
Amerisleep AS3 is the perfect blend of soft and firm

Amerisleep uses plant-based BioPur foam when constructing the AS3.

BioPur is designed to keep you cool at night. It works by redirecting airflow using open-cell construction. This allows the hot air to escape the material, thus keeping you cool. If you frequently wake up due to overheating, this is by far the best type of memory foam.

The bouncy memory foam that Amerisleep uses in the AS3 does a phenomenal job of relieving painful pressure points. Our reviewers noted that they didn’t experience any sagging, even after almost a full year of regular use.

Underneath the top layer is a HIVE transition layer that keeps your body in alignment. This layer is extremely important because it’s what gives your shoulders and hips more cushioning. Since those body parts protrude out (especially if you’re sleeping on your side) they need additional support beneath the top layer of the mattress. We’re happy to report that Amerisleep’s transition layer does just that.

The Bio-Core base layer literally never sags or develops soft spots. Amerisleep is so certain of this that they back it up with a 20-year warranty.

Amerisleep AS4 review

Coming in as 4th in the line of mattresses that Amerisleep has on offer, the  medium soft AS4 is made specifically for side sleepers and for those who prefer a slightly softer mattress than the AS3, which is Amerisleep’s happy medium between soft and firm.

Boasting the same features as each and every one of Amerisleep’s mattress offerings such as their Celliant cover, open-cell technology and their very own BioPur memory foam alternative, the AS4 has everything that makes Amerisleep one of the leading mattress brands in America.

Buy: Amerisleep AS4, $1,449+ from Amerisleep.com

Amerisleep AS4 mattress
Amerisleep AS4 is a medium-soft mattress that is slightly firmer than the AS5

Who should buy the AS4?

Made for those who sleep on their sides all throughout the night, some back sleepers have found the AS4 to be comfortable for them as well. Those who sleep on their stomachs may find that the AS4 lacks the support they would need for their backs and hips so bear that in mind if you are one half of a couple with different sleeping position habits. That said, a surprising amount of couples who went for the AS4 found it to be a good middle ground especially for those who are combination sleepers who prefer sleeping on a softer mattress. Some have even gone as far as to purchase multiples for each of the bedrooms in their houses – which is a resounding testament to Amerisleep’s quality and longevity as well as the AS4’s popularity.

For those of us who sleep hot however, sleeping on a softer mattress may pose a few problems especially if the mattress allows you to sink in a little too much. While this is a feature that most soft mattress lovers look for – that cuddly, cozy feel – it could also mean that body heat may be trapped within that little cocoon. Although Amerisleep’s open cell technology allows for air to be circulated freely throughout the foam layers making up the AS4, people who are perpetually feeling hot may find it difficult to get comfortable so this should definitely be taken into consideration, especially if you live somewhere with a warmer climate.

Although back sleepers can sleep comfortably on the AS4, some people have found it to be too soft while others too hard, so like with all of Amerisleep’s other mattress offerings, it all comes down to choice.

Weight could also be a deciding factor on whether to go for the AS4 as those who are over 200 lbs may feel more comfortable and have more support from a firmer mattress – not to worry, Amerisleep has 4 other mattresses to choose from.

People who share their bed with a partner will find that even though the AS4 is on the softer side of the spectrum, it offers great motion transfer and motion isolation. So whether you or your partner move about during the night, disturbance should be minimal to none (well, unless you or your partner is exceptionally heavy).

Amerisleep’s AS4 is a perfect blend of softness and support. With a thicker upper layer of their proprietary BioPur memory foam alternative compared to the AS3, the AS4 offers that soft, cuddly feel that soft mattress aficionados so crave without the feeling of being swallowed up by your mattress. You sleep on it rather than in it.

As with all of Amerisleep’s mattresses, the AS4 is made with BioPur, an eco-friendly memory foam alternative created by Amerisleep. BioPur’s open cell technology makes for mattresses that allow air to circulate freely and to prevent heat build up, allowing sleepers to stay cool through the night. Unlike traditional memory foam, BioPur has a rapid response time which relieves pressure points offering sleepers not only comfort but support as well. Made with renewable plant based oils therefore minimizing the use of non-renewable resources, BioPur is also CertiPur-US certified as well as being low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which in the long run, can be very harmful to your health.

The AS4 also utilizes another one of Amerisleep’s innovations – the HIVE Transition layer – which gives your body targeted support to help ease tension in the body as well as help you sleep in perfect alignment. The AS4’s HIVE Transition layer also provides added support to the head, back and legs while giving your hips and shoulder extra cushion.

Buy: Amerisleep AS4, $1,449+ from Amerisleep.com

Made up of three layers, the AS4’s topmost comfort layer is 4 inches of BioPur memory foam alternative, followed by 1 inch of their HIVE transition layer polyfoam that features an eggshell design and the base is made up of 7 inches of high density polyfoam blend making it a total of 12 inches of cuddles to last for a lifetime.

While the AS4 is made with plant-based materials and reports of off-gassing are few and far in between, there could still be that ‘new mattress smell’ as it comes out of the box and when you first use it. We have found that airing the mattress out for a few days in a well ventilated room works wonders.

As with all of Amerisleep’s mattresses, the AS4 works well with adjustable bed frames and Amerisleep also has a variety of bed frames to choose from.

Sizes and Pricing

The AS4 comes in 7 sizes. You also have the option to purchase a separate corresponding foundation from Amerisleep should you wish to do so. While Amerisleep’s prices are on par with other high-end premium mattress brands, they are cheaper than some you can find in the market.

  • Twin (38” x 74”) – $1014
  • Twin XL (38” x 80”) – $1049
  • Full (54” x 75”) – $1154
  • Queen (60” x 80”) – $1259
  • King (76” x 80”) – $1469
  • California King (72” x 84”) – $1469
  • Split King (38” x 80” – 2) – $2098

Backed by an industry leading 20 year warranty, all of Amerisleep’s mattresses come with an unspoken guarantee that the products they offer are made with you, the customer, in mind. While it may take a good few years to wear out their warranty, the general public’s consensus on the AS4 has been nothing short of stellar. And in case you need a little more convincing, Amerisleep’s 100 night trial is probably enough time for you try something that’s just right.

Amerisleep AS5 review

Amerisleep (coupon code: SLEEPLINE) is the original mattress-in-a-box company. It was founded well before Casper, Avocado, Saatva, and all of the other many competitors that have disrupted the old-school mattress industry. While other companies focus on flashy marketing campaigns and chasing money from investors, Amerisleep has been growing their business the old fashioned way: by creating a high-quality lineup of mattresses – including the AS5 Hybrid – and gradually winning over customers who become raving fans.

Buy: Amerisleep AS5, $1849+ from Amerisleep.com

Who should buy the Amerisleep AS5 Hybrid mattress?

We recommend the Amerisleep AS5 for people who prefer to sleep on a soft mattress. The AS5 is Amerisleep’s softest bed, which makes it great for side sleepers and combination sleepers (people who move between different positions frequently while sleeping).

All of Amerisleep’s mattresses are made out of memory foam, with the option to upgrade to a hybrid-style mattress for an additional cost. Memory foam beds are great for you if you like more of a “body-hugging” feel. Since the AS5 is a soft mattress you’ll sink in a little bit, which gives you the feeling of sleeping “in” your mattress rather than “on” it. The hybrid version of the Amerisleep AS5 contains springs in the support core that are designed to give the bed a more supportive feel.

If you’re a hot sleeper then you’ll definitely appreciate the open-cell construction that Amerisleep uses on their beds. This unique way of manufacturing memory foam utilizes plant-based BioPur materials to keep you cool by wicking away warm air, making it much more breathable than traditional memory foam mattresses. If you’re familiar with the Comfort Classic pillow then you already know what to expect with BioPur foam.

You should buy the Amerisleep AS5 mattress if you:

  • Like memory foam or hybrid-style beds
  • Are a hot sleeper
  • Like soft beds
  • Are a side or combination sleeper
  • Prefer a thicker mattress
  • Appreciate great customer service

Amerisleep AS5 in box

Features of the Amerisleep AS5

Amerisleep offers five different mattress models in both memory foam and hybrid versions, ranging from AS1 to AS5. The numbers represent the firmness level of a particular mattress, with AS1 being the firmest and AS5 the softest.

Since the AS5 is the softest mattress that Amerisleep offers, you can expect it to have an extremely plush and body-hugging feel. The Bio-Pur memory foam that the company uses does a great job of sinking in to support your body while bouncing back almost immediately as soon as you take the pressure off. Other brands that we’ve tried have an issue with “printing”, where your body imprint remains on the mattress even after you get out of bed. We’re happy to report that this isn’t an issue with the Amerisleep AS5, even though it’s extremely soft. It also holds up well when using an adjustable base. I’ve been using the one that Amerisleep sells and it works great with the AS5.

Amerisleep offers some of the best customer service in the industry. They always have a staff on hand to answer your questions via phone, email, or chat. They back their mattresses up with a 100-night sleep trial and a 20-year warranty against manufacturer defects. If you don’t like your mattress for any reason, contact Amerisleep within the first 100 days of delivery and you’ll get a full refund, no questions asked.

The Celliant cover that Amerisleep uses on this mattress is ultra-breathable and does a great job of promoting airflow. This cover, combined with the open-cell memory foam construction, makes the AS5 sleep much cooler than other memory foam and hybrid mattresses. If you want it to sleep even cooler, we recommend looking at getting a set of Tencel sheets as well.

The Amerisleep AS5 also contains a zoned support system. This means that there is extra material to support the heavier parts of your body while the parts of your bed that support the lighter weight parts of your body have less material so you can sink in more. We found that this patented zoned support system did a great job of relieving back, shoulder, and neck pain after just a few nights of exclusively sleeping on the AS5 Hybrid.

Let’s move on and take an in-depth look at the features of the Amerisleep AS5. We’ll start by reviewing the firmness and construction of the bed.

Buy: Amerisleep AS5, $1849+ from Amerisleep.com

Amerisleep AS5 next to box
The AS5 rapidly inflates when you cut away the packaging.

As someone who loves soft mattresses, let me tell you: the Amerisleep AS5 Hybrid is amazing. Most brands have a hard time balancing softness and support, which is why their soft beds are usually the weakest product they offer. Amerisleep finally cracked the code. The AS5 Hybrid masters the art of giving you that perfect “body-hugging” sinking feeling that soft mattresses are known for along with the support that firmer innerspring mattresses provide.

After extensive testing we didn’t notice any sinking or sagging, which is rare for a soft mattress like the AS5. I slept on mine every single day for months and it still looks like it just came out of the package.

The AS5 is the softest mattress that Amerisleep makes. If you want something a little bit firmer, the AS4 rates at medium-firm. The AS3 is a medium, AS2 is medium-firm, and the AS1 is the firmest bed that the company offers. The beds all have equal quality, the only difference is the firmness level so you if you want something firmer than the AS5 you can buy one of their other models instead. Which mattress you decide to buy is a matter of your own personal preferences and sleeping habits.

Amerisleep AS5 cover
The cover is made out of Celliant, polyester, and spandex and is great for airflow.

The AS5 is a 14″ thick all-foam or foam-coil hybrid mattress that is the softest in the Amerisleep product lineup. The main difference between the AS5 and other models is that it includes an “Active Flex” layer that adds softness that cradles you when you lay down but bounces back quick when you get off the bed.

The cover is made out of a breathable blend of Celliant, polyester, and spandex. This unique blend of materials makes the cover stretchy – meaning that it won’t bunch up every time you move. It also provides a large amount of airflow, which is critical for making sure that memory foam mattresses stay cool while you sleep.

When I pressed my hand down on the cover I could actually feel the airflow coming through it so I can verify that it works. It has a very soft feel and the unique “dotted” design aesthetic makes it look and feel like a premium mattress. The AS5 isn’t cheap so it’s good to know that the looks match the high-end performance and high-end pricetag.

A comfort layer lies just underneath the cover. It’s made out of 3 inches of high-quality memory foam with a 4lb density. I found that I was able to sink into the mattress for pressure relief and that it provided a slow response to pressure, meaning that it really gave me the body-hugging feel that memory foam is famous for.

I was very surprised by how cool the Amerisleep AS5 was, and I can attribute most of that cooling effect to the open cell structure of the memory foam comfort layer. The open cell design and the Bio-Pur material did an excellent job of releasing trapped air, which helps to wick away heat and keeps you cool while you sleep.

The Active Flex layer consists of 2 inches of foam directly underneath the comfort layer. This soft foam has a similar consistency as the memory foam above it. The point of this layer is that it allows you to sink in even deeper into your mattress without losing support. The Active Flex layer only exists in the AS5 and serves to differentiate it from the medium-soft AS4 mattress.

Like the comfort layer above it, the Active Flex material has a slow response to pressure and bounces back quick. I didn’t notice any imprinting or sagging in the mattress, even after sleeping on it daily for an extended period of time. I attribute that to the Active Flex layer, which made this mattress feel as soft as it does without losing any support.

Now we get down into the guts of the mattress with the transition layer. This layer is made out of 2 inches of high-density convoluted polyfoam that is designed to create space for additional airflow for temperature regulation. The transition layer has a quick response to pressure and is a little bit firmer than the soft layers above it. Like the name implies, it acts as a transition between the base layer and Active Flex and comfort layers above.

The transition layer adds to the comfort of the mattress but is really designed to provide structure. It’s what prevents the soft comfort layers from sagging down into the firmer base layer of the bed. One cool thing about the transition layer is that it has a targeted zoned pressure relief construction. This improves your alignment by reducing pressure points that can cause pain and by adding support to the areas where you need it most.

Finally we arrive at the base layer. The base consists of 7 inches of high-density polyfoam with a 1.8lb density rating. This part of the bed has the relatively unglamorous job of supporting the transition and comfort layers above it. This is the layer that gives the Amerisleep AS5 its shape and is what makes the mattress so durable.

Memory foam mattresses aren’t known for their longevity, but we found that the Amerisleep AS5 lasts significantly longer than most other brands.

The company stands behind their product with a 20-year warranty against manufacturer defects. We obviously haven’t tested the AS5 throughout its entire lifespan (Amerisleep hasn’t even been in business for 20 years yet!), our extensive testing process indicates that this mattress will last a long time.

The Amerisleep AS5 has a great amount of edge support compared to other memory foam and hybrid mattresses. I never once felt like I was going to fall off when sitting on the edge of this bed, which is a great sign for its durability: mattresses with weak edge support don’t tend to last as long.

Another common problem with memory foam beds is imprinting that occurs from repeated use. I’ve been sleeping on the AS5 nightly since receiving it and it still looks and feels like a brand new bed. The memory foam is extremely responsive: you’ll sink in when you sleep on it but it bounces back instantly when you roll out of bed in the morning. This is a great sign for the lifespan of the mattress. Since it doesn’t permanently print or sag you won’t have to worry about replacing it any time soon.

The Amerisleep AS5 is available in the following standard North American sizes:

  • Twin (38″ x 74″)
  • Twin XL (38″ x 80″)
  • Full (54″ x 75″)
  • Queen (60″ x 80″)
  • King (76″ x 80″)
  • California King (72″ x 84″)
  • Split King – memory foam version only (38″ x 80″ – 2)

The AS5 is the thickest mattress that Amerisleep offers, measuring in at 14″ tall.

Pricing depends on the size of the mattress and on whether you want the hybrid version or the memory foam version. Hybrids are much more expensive than the pure memory foam beds because they add a layer of coils for added support. Use coupon code SLEEPLINE to get a 30% discount on the AS5 or any other Amerisleep mattress.

  • Twin – Memory foam: $1799 Hybrid: $1999
  • Twin XL – Memory foam: $1849 Hybrid: $2049
  • Full – Memory foam: $1949 Hybrid: $2149
  • Queen – Memory foam: $2099 Hybrid: $2299
  • King – Memory foam: $2299 Hybrid: $2499
  • California King – Memory foam: $2299 Hybrid: $2499
  • Split King – Memory foam: $3498

These prices are cheaper than or equivalent to other high-end premium mattress brands like St. Regis and ZenHaven. It’s more expensive than lower-tier mattresses like Layla and Avocado.

Amerisleep Warranty

Amerisleep offers a generous warranty on the AS5 (and all of their other mattresses). The warranty lasts 20 years and is broken down into two sections: the first 10 years after purchase and the second 10 years.

The first 10 year period is also known as the “full replacement period”. If you have a problem with the construction of your AS5 during this period contact the company. Amerisleep will determine if your mattress should be repaired or replaced due to defects of faulty workmanship or structural defects, subject to the limitations of the warranty.

During the second prorated period, the company will either repair or replace your mattress at 50 percent of the original purchase price. Repairing the mattress will be subject to a handling charge and you’re responsible for transportation and shipping costs in addition to the prorated charges.

The warranty covers:

Deterioration in the cell structure of the mattress that causes a visible indentation greater than three-quarter of an inc (0.75″).

Splitting and cracking that occurs with normal usage and proper handling.

The warranty does not apply if:

  • You use an improper foundation.
  • The mattress, foundation, or cover has been abused, burned, saturated with moisture, cut, or torn.
  • You are not the original purchaser of the mattress.

Trial period

Like competing mattress-in-a-box brands Amerisleep offers a 100-night sleep trial for all of their mattresses.

Unless you live near one of Amerisleep’s retail outlets you won’t have a chance to try the mattress before you buy it. Fortunately the trial period gives you the opportunity to use the mattress risk-free in your own home for 100 days. If you decide that the AS5 isn’t for you contact the company for a full and complete refund. Amerisleep will even arrange for your mattress to be picked up and recycled.

The free trial begins on the night that you receive your bed. If you buy it with an adjustable platform as well, the trial period doesn’t start until the platform and bed both arrive so you can see how you like the whole set.

When returning your mattress you can choose between either a full and complete refund OR a replacement mattress. If you like what Amerisleep is doing but think the AS5 is a little bit too soft, just let them know which model you want to replace it with and the company will send a new one out.
