The Cocoon Chill Memory Foam mattress is one of Sealy’s more affordable models. Is it good enough? I ran it through a series of hands-on tests to find out.
Cocoon by Sealy Chill Memory Foam Review and Performance Test Results
Pros
- Comfortable
- Relieves pain from pressure points
- Excellent motion isolation
- Good for those with joint pain
Cons
- Sleeps hot
- Weak edge support
My experience with the Cocoon by Sealy Chill Memory Foam mattress
There’s absolutely no question that when it comes to comfort, the Cocoon by Sealy Memory Foam provides the level of comfort that you would expect from a high-end memory foam mattress.

But my favorite thing about it would have to be its motion isolating capabilities – you feel absolutely nothing; no movement whatsoever.
But unfortunately, that’s where the my positive feelings about this mattress end.
The mattress sleeps hot. It’s true that this is a natural property of memory foam, but Sealy didn’t do much of anything to try to mitigate it.
And as for its edge support, there isn’t much to say because well, there isn’t any.
My opinion is that this mattress is best for use in a kids’ room or a guest room. Not as a daily driver for an adult.
Firmness
Sealy calls their Cocoon Chill Memory Foam mattress a 6, but I found it more to be a 5 on the mattress firmness scale which gives it a true medium feel.

This firmness level is good for all sleeper types.
Since there are no springs in this mattress, I can’t recommend it for heavyweight sleepers. If you’re average weight or lower it should be fine though.
Cooling Test
We rate the Cocoon by Sealy Memory Foam mattress a 5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Memory foam retains heat.
There’s no way around it.
But I wish that Sealy would have at least tried.
There are different types of cooling materials that most all-foam mattresses use that Sealy simply decided not to include.
I don’t recommend this mattress to those who sleep hot.
Motion Transfer Test
We rate the Cocoon by Sealy Memory Foam mattress a 9 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

There was little measurable motion transfer when I ran the mattress through Sleepline’s famous bowling ball motion isolation test.
I confirmed this subjectively when I put it through a sleep test with a partner.
This is a great mattress for someone who sleeps with a partner who tends to toss and turn at night.
You won’t feel any movement at all.
Edge Support Test
We rate the Cocoon by Sealy Memory Foam mattress a 4 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

There are no edge coils in this mattress.
There isn’t even any reinforced foam layers around the edge.
Needless to say, the edge support on this mattress is very weak.
It compressed quite a bit when I applied pressure to the edge, and the sagging was noticeable during my sleep tests I laid anywhere other than the middle of the bed.
Pressure Relief/Comfort Test
We rate the Cocoon by Sealy Memory Foam mattress a 7 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Despite its flaws, this really is a comfortable mattress.
The cushioning is top-notch, and it’s supportive enough to actually provide a decent amount of pressure relief.
This is rare with memory foam mattresses, which tend to allow your hips and shoulder to sink in too much.
I’m happy to report that this mattress is an exception.
It’s obviously not going to be as supportive as a hybrid model (mattress type that includes a supportive layer of coils), but for an all-foam mattress it isn’t bad at all.
Construction
The Cocoon by Sealy Chill Memory Foam mattress is made from only two layers (not including the cover).

The first comfort layer is made up of adaptable memory foam that is designed to pressure-relieving and cushioning.
The second layer is made up of a thicker and higher density memory foam that’s intended to provide support for the comfort layer and reduce sagging.
Durability
Sealy has a good reputation for quality and durability.
Unfortunately, the foam they used in this mattress isn’t at quite the same quality level as their more expensive models under their main brand.
With that said, the materials aren’t actually bad. Just not amazing. So it should last you a decent amount of time as long as you rotate the mattress regularly and put a protector on it.

The Cocoon by Sealy Chill Memory Foam mattress comes in six standard mattress sizes.

- Twin XL

Conclusion
As impressive a brand as Sealy may be, their Cocoon by Sealy Chill Memory Foam mattress falls short of my expectations, especially from such a premium mattress brand.
The standout features were comfort, pressure relief, and motion isolation. It did very well in my performance tests in these categories.
It fell short in my cooling and edge support tests.
My recommendation: this is a good mattress to use for kids or guests. If you’re looking for a daily driver, you’re better off with a different mattress.
