My experience with the Helix Plus Mattress
While the Helix Plus is not a bad mattress per se, I can safely say it won’t last as long as you would like it to simply because of its thinner foam layers.
While it helps keep the Helix Plus affordable (this is a review for the baseline Core model, remember), having thinner foam layers – even with a thick coil unit – means the mattress wears down quicker when used daily.

What the Helix Plus Core does very well is providing pressure relief and targeted support to the parts of your body that need it most (hips, shoulders, back, etc.).
Firmness Test
The Helix Plus mattress sits on a 7 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm feel that skews more towards the firm side of the spectrum.

This firmness level best suits those who sleep on their backs or stomachs.
Side sleepers may find the Helix Plus to be a little too firm.
Pressure Relief and Comfort Test
We rate the Helix Plus a 7 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Had it been slightly softer in terms of feel and firmness (to meet the needs of side sleepers), this rating would have been a little higher.
But for back and stomach sleepers, the Helix Plus provides just the right amount of pressure point relief and support.
Cooling Test
We rate the Helix Plus an 8 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
In this instance, the thin foam layers work for it rather than against it.
They’re just thin enough to prevent heat retention, keeping the mattress cool and airy.
I definitely recommend the Helix Plus if you sleep hot.
Motion Transfer Test
We rate the Helix Plus a 6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Once again the thin foam layers of the Helix Plus are the culprits here – they just aren’t thick enough to absorb cross mattress movement.
I felt quite a good amount of motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
Edge Support Test
We rate the Helix Plus a 7 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The Helix Plus mattress does contain reinforced edge coils.
While the edge support isn’t the best I’ve experienced, it’s not the worst either. You won’t find yourself rolling off the edge of the bed.
Construction
There are 5 layers to the Helix Plus mattress with the option to add one more comfort layer (for an additional fee).
These layers come encased in a moisture-wicking breathable knit cover. You also get the option to switch to GlacioTex cooling cover (again, for an additional fee).

The top comfort layer is made up of Helix’s own proprietary memory foam that helps provide compression and pressure point relief.
Next comes another layer of proprietary memory foam that has a higher density for extra comfort and support.
The transition layer is made up of Helix’s Responsive foam that also helps provide support.
The optional ErgoAlign layer can be added if you need more support for your lumbar area.
The coil unit is made up of up to a thousand pocketed-steel coils that help provide targeted support.
The base layer is made up of high-density foam that helps keep the other layers stable.
The Helix Plus does not contain fiberglass.
Durability
We have tested many Helix mattresses by now (see my reviews of the Midnight, Midnight Luxe, and Midnight Elite for examples) and they are all made with premium, high quality materials.
The Helix Plus is no different.
Don’t get me wrong – the thinner layers of this core model version won’t be able to withstand very heavy weight over the long run… but that doesn’t mean it won’t be durable and stable for sleepers who are slightly overweight.
Sizes

The Helix Plus comes in six standard mattress sizes including a California King.
It measures 11.5 inches in thickness and is compatible with most bed bases, foundations and bed frames.

Evolution of the Helix Plus Core and Previous Versions
Helix recently revamped all their mattress collections in Spring 2025 and this includes the Plus.
An extra comfort layer made up of high density memory foam was added which helps with comfort and pressure relief.
You now also get to choose between different cooling covers as an added upgrade.

Similar Mattresses to Consider
This review is for the Core model Helix Plus.
Mattresses in Helix’s Core Collection are the base models. They’re alright, but they aren’t the best.
If you want to spend more for something similar but much higher quality, I recommend taking a look at the Helix Plus Luxe or Helix Plus Elite.
Otherwise, take a look at these alternative brands.
Helix Dusk

If you want something extremely cooling, check out the Helix Dusk.
Featuring cooling gel-infused memory foam and a cooling cover plus pocketed coils that allow continuous air flow, the Dusk is really good for those who sleep extremely hot.
You can also upgrade to the Dusk Luxe or Dusk Elite if you have more money to spend.

Puffy Royal

If you need something softer and more cushioning, take a look at the Puffy Royal.
With ten layers of proprietary foam and a coil unit, the Puffy Royal offers deep compression and cushioning making it an excellent choice for side sleepers.

WinkBeds GravityLux

If you need something with better motion isolation, check out the WinkBeds GravityLux.
The all-foam construction absorbs movement (no coils), which makes it a good option for couples.

Where to buy the Helix Plus mattress
The best places to buy the Helix Plus are:
- Helix Sleep official website (recommended)
- WalMart
- Amazon
I always recommend buying directly from the manufacturer to make sure you get full warranty coverage and customer service support (you never think you’ll need it… until you do).
Conclusion
The Plus Core mattress is Helix Sleep’s affordable option that’s made for heavier-set sleepers.
While it does have a high weight capacity and is both supportive and pressure relieving, I don’t think it will hold up well in the long run for super-obese people.
If you weigh around 300 pounds? Should be fine. But once you get to 400 lbs. or even 500 or more…you might want to look elsewhere.
I think you should upgrade to the Luxe or Elite version of the Helix Plus if you have the budget for it.
