The Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid is an affordable mattress from a reputable brand. I ran it through Sleepline’s series of hands-on performance tests to see how it holds up. Here’s what I thought about it.
Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid Review and Performance Test Results
Pros
- Offers responsive support
- Cradles joints and pressure points
- Good for couples
- Affordable
Cons
- Not good for heavier-set stomach sleepers
- Edge support could be better
My experience with the Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid Mattress
While the Chill Hybrid didn’t disappoint me, it didn’t exactly wow me either.
Yes, you get support and pressure relief, but I feel like with how the average mattress is made nowadays, that’s the bare minimum.

I’m not saying that the Chill Hybrid mattress is necessarily bad, but for a Sealy mattress, I have to say that I expected more.
So much more, especially since it is a midrange line.
Overall, my experience with the Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid is slightly above average, but certainly not more than that.
Firmness
A 6 on the mattress firmness scale, the Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid a medium-firm feel which is good for all sleeper types.

However, it may dip in slightly for heavier-set stomach sleepers, which could cause problems in the long run.
Cooling Test
We rate the Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid a 7 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Memory foam retains heat. There’s just no way around that simple fact.
And the Chill Hybrid is made out of (you guessed it) memory foam.
But, thankfully, it’s much better than its coilless counterpart the Cocoon by Sealy Memory Foam mattress.
The coils in this hybrid version do a decent job at providing airflow to offset the heat retention from the foam.
Motion Transfer Test
We rate the Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid a 7 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

The Chill Hybrid’s memory foam layers absorb a good amount of movement.
You’ll still feel a little bit of bounce, but only if you share a bed with a partner who weighs significantly more than you.
Edge Support Test
We rate the Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Sealy states that the Chill Hybrid mattress contains what they call their ‘Quantum Edge technology’… which is really just marketing speak for reinforced edge coils.
While I felt supported at first, it became clear to me that with continued use, it would start to sink in with time.
Pressure Relief/Comfort Test
We rate the Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

I think this is where the mattress really shines.
The mattress’ coil unit provides responsive support, especially for the lumbar area, while the memory foam layers provide cushioning and compression for the main pressure points as well as the joints.
I like that you get the best of both worlds with the mattress.
You get the benefits of an innerspring and a memory foam mattress, all wrapped up in one.
Construction
The Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid is made up of three layers.
These layers come encased in a cool to the touch cover that’s also moisture-wicking.
The first comfort layer is made up of open-celled memory foam, which helps with heat retention. This layer provides deep compression for pressure relief.
The second layer is made up of a more responsive foam that provides both support and contouring. This layer also acts as a transition layer.
The coil unit is made up of up to 900 individually-pocketed coils that provide extra support.
Durability
While Sealy is widely known to produce good quality mattresses that last a long time, I have to say that they seem to have skimped a little when it comes to their Cocoon product line.
Though made well, the Chill Hybrid mattress’ materials just do not hold up well compared to their other lines.
But what I can say is that with proper mattress care, you’ll get a few good years out of it.

Conclusion
For a mattress in its price point, you get an adequate amount of comfort and support with the Cocoon by Sealy Chill Hybrid.
But for a mattress coming from a mattress brand giant like Sealy, it falls a little short of my expectations.
It’s definitely much better than the all-foam version, but when compared to hybrids at other price points, it isn’t too impressive.
It’s not a horrible mattress by any means, however.
So if you like the price point and place a lot of value on a reputable name brand like Sealy, it might be a good choice for you.
