Avocado and Amerisleep are two of the biggest names in the world of online mattress companies. If you’re reading this article you’re likely at the stage in the mattress buying process where you’ve narrowed down your search to these two brands.
First of all: you have great taste. Both of these brands are well-known for making high-quality, state-of-the-art beds that get great reviews from both professional reviewers and real customers like you. You can rest easy knowing that you made a great decision regardless of which mattress you choose.
Now the hard part begins. You’ve narrowed your search down to your two favorite mattresses, but it’s hard to tell what differentiates them. Other than the price and the way they look, is there really a difference between Amerisleep and Avocado mattresses?
Let’s start by taking a quick look at the differences between the two brands and then we’ll move on to our in-depth analysis.

Amerisleep offers five different models of their mattress, with each one corresponding to a different firmness level. The AS1 is the thinnest and most firm version, while the AS5 is the thickest and softest.
The cover is made out of Celliant, which is designed to keep you cool by redistributing your body’s thermal energy similar to the way that Celliant-based athletic clothing works.
The top layer of Amerisleep mattresses is made out of Bio-Pur foam at varying thickness levels depending on which model you buy. This is the comfort layer that really defines how the mattress feels and also aids in helping to keep you cool while you sleep. If you opt for the soft AS5 model then you’ll get a bed that has an additional layer of this foam to make it feel softer. All other models in Amerisleep’s lineup only have the first layer.
The middle layer is made out of supportive transition foam in the AS2, AS3, AS4, and AS5 models. The extremely firm AS1 mattress omits the middle layer.
All models other than the AS1 have a 7″ thick base layer. The AS1 has an 8″ base layer to give the mattress a very firm feel (great for back sleepers).
Amerisleep manufactures their mattresses right here in the USA, so you don’t have to worry about the inferior and sometimes dangerous materials that cheap made-in-China brands use. They also offer a line of sheets, pillows, and adjustable bed bases for sale on their website.
Avocado’s unique selling point is that they use sustainable, organic materials in their mattresses. They have two models: Green and Vegan.
The cover is made out of organic 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton that the company emphasizes is free from flammable materials and harmful chemicals.
The comfort layer is where the differences between the two different models start to emerge. The comfort layer in the Green is made out of wool and it’s made out of cotton in the Vegan version. One cool thing about the Green version is that wool has anti-microbial properties, so if sanitation is a concern for you then this is a great choice.
Since Avocado mattresses are hybrids, they have a support layer that is made out of 1,414 independently floating recycled steel coils that are manufactured in the USA. The coils are individually tuned for the different areas of the bed so you’ll get more support on the parts of your body that need it.

Avocado warranty and trial period
Avocado offers a 25-year warranty that starts on the date you purchase your mattress. The warranty only applies if you purchase it directly from Avocado and it only applies to the original purchaser.
During the first 10 years your mattress is completely covered. If you have a valid warranty claim the company will completely cover the cost of repairing or replacing the mattress. During the next 10 years Avocado will charge you a prorated amount starting at 50% of the original purchase price. From years 12-21 they will increase the percentage you pay by 5% each year. During the last five years of the warranty you’ll have to pay 95% of the original purchase price to repair or replace your mattress. Obviously this warranty is extremely generous to start with and becomes almost worthless during the last five years, when you’ll almost be force to pay the whole purchase price if you need to make a warranty claim.
Avocado also offers a one-year trial period on their mattresses, which is significantly longer than most other brands. Your sleep trial begins on the day that you receive your mattress delivery.
Amerisleep warranty and trial period
Amerisleep gives you a 20-year warranty when you buy one of their mattresses. The warranty covers defects in manufacturing and materials for the original purchaser.
The first 10 years is considered a “full replacement period”. Amerisleep will repair or replace your mattress at no charge to you during this initial period.
The second 10 year period is much less generous. During this so-called “prorated period” you’ll have to pay 50% of the purchase price plus shipping and handling charges to repair or replace your mattress.
