Why linen? It’s a more sustainable and environmentally friendly material than cotton and, in our experience, it keeps your body temperature regulated. The second place belongs to Amerisleep Tencel sheets. We loved that they are made of 100% Eucalyptus tree cellulose fiber, which makes it softer and cooler than even Egyptian cotton. Tencel is a good choice for those with sensitive skin; if you get irritated by other fabrics – even cotton, you should give these sheets a try.
Apart from the great feel, we really liked how the fitted sheet features two stretchy bands that go under the mattress and keep the sheet secure while you toss and turn. This feature is fantastic for singles and couples – in fact, two people are more likely to completely pull the fitted sheet out and end up having to tuck it in every single morning. Another one of our favorites is the US-made Linoto Linen Sheet set. As the company name suggests, it’s all made of 100% linen fabric.
Many Linoto products are made by request but there’s a long waiting time even for their regular products, therefore, consider them if you’re not in a hurry to replace your sheets. So yes, you do need to wait for several weeks which doesn’t mean they’re not worth it.
Linoto makes a great gift because they take special requests not only in size but also produce monogrammed sheets or non-cataloged colors. We really liked that you can also choose the depth of the fitted sheet and get a size that suits your bed perfectly.
Linoto sheets are made to be softer than typical linen and less wrinkly (which doesn’t mean they stop having linen properties, they are just more suitable to sleep on). As we mentioned above, linen helps you sleep cool and keeps allergies away; it is slightly harsher to touch and more environmentally friendly than cotton.

We didn’t forget about the awesomeness of cotton! Brooklinen Luxe Core Sheets are made of 100% long-staple cotton using sateen weave. Based on our testing, when sheets are made of long-staple cotton, they are more durable and not prone to pilling.
Brooklinen Luxe Core is for the lovers of silky touch. We noticed that the sateen is somewhat less breathable than the regular type of weave, but it sure does feel much better and has a reasonable price. Our favorite features aren’t the envelope closures, but the “long side” and “short side” labels on sheets, so you don’t get lost when putting them on.

Boll & Branch Classic Hemmed Sheets are another cotton satin weave option. Made of 100% organic long-staple cotton, based on our testing they feel very soft and even become softer after some time of use. These hemmed sheets aren’t difficult to maintain, they come in beautiful colors, and we liked that they are being produced and shipped with special care for the environment.
According to Boll & Branch, they try to keep their carbon footprint low so they produce the sheets in the most environmentally friendly way, package them in recycled paper, and transport all goods by ship rather than an airplane.
We noticed that the price isn’t the lowest out there, but we believe that quite a few of our readers who care about the environment enough are willing to pay a higher price for the greener option.
One thing that could put you off is the thickness of Boll & Branch Sheets. They feel somewhat thin and although many users are perfectly fine with it, some find them too thin for their taste – especially because the price would suggest they are more luxurious or thicker.

Cotton
High-quality cotton has long been a staple material that many brands of sheets are made of. Some people don’t like cotton because it has a reputation as being used with cheap sheet sets that you can find on Amazon or at Walmart. While it’s true that inferior brands use cotton, it’s also true that expensive brands use it as well, especially if they’re using high-quality materials.
Egyptian cotton has long been a staple in luxury sheet construction. If you’re buying regular cotton sheets or Egyptian cotton sheets, we recommend looking for a high-thread count to ensure that your purchase will last longer.
Bamboo fabric
Most people aren’t aware of bamboo sheets and don’t know that they are made out of one of the softest materials available.
Bamboo sheets are relatively uncommon, but if owning ultra-soft sheets is a priority for you, then they’re definitely something you should take a look at. Bamboo has a soft feel and it actually manages to keep you cool by wicking away your body heat while you sleep.
If luxury sheets are a priority for you, then you should strongly consider bamboo sheets. Brands made out of bamboo viscose or bamboo rayon – such as Nest Bedding – have a high-end feel that will make it seem like you’re sleeping on hotel sheets. Jersey sheets
Jersey sheets aren’t woven; rather they are knitted out of a soft wrinkle-resistant material. The best jersey sheets are made out of stretchy material that can accommodate any size mattress.
If having a wrinkle-free set of sheets is the most important factor for you, then you should consider buying jersey sheets. One downside that you should be aware of is that the material does tend to pill easily.
Percale weave
Percale sheets have a crisper feel that may not appeal to people who want a softer feel to their sheets. They are extremely durable and long-lasting when compared to sheets made out of cotton or other common materials.
Percale sheets tend to have a subdued matte finish in contrast with the shinier finish associated with silk sheets like Lilysilk.
Flannel
Flannel sheets are made with texture in mind. They have a heavier feel and tend to trap more heat, making them ideal if you are a cold sleeper or live in colder climates. The best flannel sheets will be made with organic cotton with brushed fibers to create a super soft feel.
Polyester
Polyester sheets are cheap. Their main benefit is the fact that you can buy them at lower price points compared to sheets made out of other materials. If you want a good night’s sleep, we highly recommend buying any other type of bed sheets, but if your primary goal is to save money then buying sheets made out of polyester is the best choice.
Another benefit is that they are machine washable and tend to hold up well over time, even if you don’t line dry them. Polyester won’t be even close to the softest sets of sheets you’ve ever tried, but they’ll do in a pinch. They are great for budget mattresses such as Sweet Night.
Microfiber fabric
Microfiber sheets are made out of a type of polyester that is brushed to give the bed sheets a plusher feel (they are commonly labeled as “brushed microfiber”.) Microfiber sheets run hot and are suitable for colder climates. If you’re looking for sheets that have a cooling effect, stay away from brushed microfiber.
Sateen
Sateen sheets are made with continuous threads that are angled in one direction, giving the sheets a silky smooth feel. If you want sheets that replicate the feel of silk without the high price tag, a sateen set is the way to go. If you prefer a crisper feel, we recommending passing on sateen sheets and buying a percale sheet set instead.
Price
When you’re researching bed sheets, you’ll notice that different brands are available at wildly different prices. We recommend passing on the cheap bed sheets and buying ones that come with a higher price tag.
When you buy bed sheets at a premium price you’ll get high quality sheets that feature a higher thread count, have moisture-wicking technology, are extremely soft, and are made out of natural fibers. The best bed sheets are going to be much more expensive than inferior products.
Mattress height
If you have a tall mattress, then you need to ensure that you’re buying sheets with deep pockets. Standard sheets are made for 10″ or 12″ mattresses, and many modern brands are making beds that have 15″ depths (or even higher).
Make sure that you measure your mattress before buying a bed sheet set so you can make sure that it has deep pockets that will fit your bed properly.
