Sleeping with acid reflux can be a massive pain. Literally. That’s why choosing the right mattress is so important. A good mattress can help relieve your symptoms, and a bad one can make them so much worse. I personally tested all the leading brands and determined that the overall best mattress for acid reflux relief is the Helix Midnight Luxe.

#1. Helix Midnight Luxe

Helix Midnight Luxe mattress ranked #1 for acid reflux relief
Helix Midnight Luxe

Pros

  • Zoned support
  • Best for side sleepers and combination sleepers
  • Plush and pressure relieving
  • Fiberglass-free

Cons

  • Not good for heavier-set back and stomach sleepers
  • Can retain heat

Why it’s the best mattress for relieving acid reflux symptoms

The Helix Midnight Luxe is an all-rounder: it did well across-the-board in my performance testing process.

I like the that the coil support unit does a good job of providing back support, which is crucial for people with acid reflux who typically sleep elevated using an adjustable bed.

The foam comfort layer helps you body feel cradled, yet it doesn’t sink in too much.

And the price point is really good: not too cheap and not too expensive either. Although you can downgrade to the Core Midnight or upgrade to the Midnight Elite, depending on your budget (I always like it when brands give you options at different price points).

If you aren’t sure which mattress to get, this is my top recommendation.

Helix Midnight Luxe Performance Test Results

The Helix Midnight Luxe sits at a 6 on the mattress firmness scale which gives it a medium to medium-firm feel.

It’s good for all sleeper types, with the caveat that I found it to be a bit too soft for heavier-set back and stomach sleepers.

We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The mattress did an amazing job at providing pressure point relief zoned support, which gives extra support to certain areas of the body that need it most (back and hips).

We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 6 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Unfortunately, I found it to be a bit heat-retentive which can be an issue for those who sleep extremely hot.

We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

I did not feel any motion transfer whatsoever when I tried the mattress out with a partner.

We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Reinforced edge coils surround the perimeter of the entire mattress giving it extra support. There was essentially zero compressing or sagging when I applied weight to the edge.

The Helix Dusk Luxe is my recommended alternative to the Midnight Luxe if you want a firmer mattress.

If you’re overweight, the added firmness can help prevent sagging and support your back and joints.

As with all Helix mattresses, you can always downgrade to the cheaper Core Dusk or upgrade to the more expensive Dusk Elite.

Why it’s one of the best

Based on my tests, cooling is the outstanding feature of the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid.

It retained very little measurable heat, which makes it great for hot sleepers.

There’s nothing worse than trying to sleep while overheating AND dealing with the symptoms of acid reflux.

One more thing I like a lot about the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is that it provides deep compression which helps relieve joint pain and other forms of chronic pain.

Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Performance Test Results

You get to choose between three different firmness options: plush, medium-firm, and firm.

Depending on your preferred sleeping position as an acid reflux sufferer, you need to choose the firmness option that can offer you the most pressure relief and support.

We rate the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The multiple foam layers provided me with enough pressure point relief. The mattress’ coil unit did a good job at providing targeted support for my hips and shoulders.

We rate the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

As I’ve mentioned, cooling is the standout feature. The mattress didn’t retain any measurable amount of heat during my performance tests.

We rate the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

The mattress’ foam layers absorb a good amount of movement. I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried it out with a partner.

We rate the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

While the mattress does contain reinforced edge coils, it did not give enough support when I tried it out.

Cons

  • Might be too thick for those with limited mobility
  • Slight off-gassing

Why it’s one of the best

Sleeping with acid reflux can be painful.

That’s why I really like the Bear Elite Hybrid.

The proprietary foam layers that this mattress is made from do a good job of cradling your body while you sleep. Yet you don’t sink in too much, because those layers are supported by a really well-made coil unit.

The coils give in just enough on the parts of your body that need it (back, legs, head) and push back ever-so-slightly on the heavier parts of your body so they don’t sink in (shoulders, hips).

I also like the Celliant cover, which helps reduce sweating and overheating while you sleep.

Bear Elite Hybrid Performance Test Results

You get to choose between three different firmness options: soft, medium and firm.

The soft version is best for side sleepers. The medium version is good for all sleeper types. The firm version is best for back and stomach sleepers.

We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The mattress performed excellently in all my comfort and pressure relief tests. The foam comfort layers felt soft enough for my back and joints, and the coil support layer did a good job at preventing painful sagging, even when I added extra weight to the mattress for testing purposes.

We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

The mattress sleeps very cool. This is due to both the coil unit (which helps provide airflow) and the copper-infused foam, which helps reduce heat in the comfort layer. It retained little measurable heat during my cooling tests.

We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

The mattress did a good job at isolation motion during my tests. If your partner tosses and turns, you’ll feel very little of it on your side of the bed.

We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 10 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Perfect marks when it comes to edge support. The mattress not only contains reinforced edge coils but reinforced edges as well.

  • Plush and cushioning
  • Cooling
  • Good pressure relief

Cons

  • Poor edge support
  • Motion isolation could be better

Why it’s one of the best

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe did an awesome job in our pressure relief tests making it one of the best choices for acid reflux sufferers who also suffer from chronic pain (i.e. fibromyalgia).

One more thing I liked a lot about the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is that it is extremely cooling, making it a good choice for hot sleepers.

I also really liked the plush and luxurious feel that this mattress has. It really does make you feel like you’re sleeping on a high-end mattress (this is shockingly uncommon with mattresses at this price point).

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Performance Test Results

You have three firmness options to choose from: soft, medium and firm.

Choose the soft version if you’re a side sleeper. The medium version is good for all sleeper types including combination sleepers. Choose the firm version if you’re a back or stomach sleeper.

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 10 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

This mattress just feels luxurious when you lay down on it. I know that’s subjective, but I stand behind it. During the data-backed portion of my testing process, it did an excellent job at bouncing back when pressure was applied at different points on the mattress. It gets perfect marks in this category.

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

The mattress retained very little measurable heat during my cooling tests.

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Because of the mattress’ plushness (even with the firm option), its foam layers do not absorb movement very well. You will feel a significant amount of motion transfer.

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The mattress’ reinforced edge coils are pretty much rendered useless by its plush comfort layers which makes its edge support nearly non-existent.

Cons

  • Edge support could be better
  • May be too pricey for some

Why it’s one of the best

What makes the Nolah Evolution one of my top picks for acid reflux sufferers is that it helps with back pain relief.

Acid reflux is bad. Dealing with back pain on top of that is even worse. This mattress is easily the best one on this list when it comes to alleviating back pain.

Nolah Evolution Performance Test Results

You get to choose between 3three different firmness options: soft, medium, and firm.

The soft version is best for side sleepers. The medium version is good for all sleeper types. The firm version is best for back and stomach sleepers.

We rate the Nolah Evolution a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

Even with its plush comfort layer, the Nolah Evolution’s coil unit still provides enough zoned support that helps alleviate symptoms of acid reflux.

We rate the Nolah Evolution a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Every layer has some form of actively cooling tech which makes the mattress an excellent choice for hot sleepers.

We rate the Nolah Evolution a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

You may experience a small amount of motion transfer, especially if you share a bed with a partner who is significantly heavier than you are.

We rate the Nolah Evolution a 7 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The mattress contains reinforced edges as well as a border gusset that helps give the mattress enough edge support.

Birch Natural Performance Test Results

The Birch Natural sits at a 6.5 on the mattress firmness scale, giving it a medium-firm feel.

This firmness level is good for all sleeper types, but petite side sleepers may find it to be a bit too firm.

We rate the Birch Natural a 7 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

Even though it’s a little too firm for petite side sleepers, the mattress provides ample pressure point relief and responsive support for every other sleeper type.

We rate the Birch Natural a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Pure latex is naturally cooling. This, combined with the airflow from the coils, makes for a mattress that retains very little heat. There was almost no measurable heat retention during the cooling phase of my performance tests.

We rate the Birch Natural a 6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Latex foam is springier by nature, so you will experience a good amount of motion transfer.

We rate the Birch Natural an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Reinforced edge coils surround the perimeter of the mattress giving it extra edge support. You won’t find yourself rolling off the edge of the bed.

#7. Sleeping Duck Mach II

Sleeping Duck Mach II mattress in the Sleepline Testing Studio
Sleeping Duck Mach II

Pros

  • Great for couples with different firmness preferences
  • Supports your back and joints
  • Good for all sleeper types
  • Good edge support

Cons

  • Significant motion transfer
  • Expensive

Why it’s one of the best

The standout feature of the Sleeping Duck Mach II is the ability to independently customize the firmness level on each side of the mattress.

If you prefer a firm mattress and your partner prefers plush; you can both have it your way.

That’s huge, especially when you’re dealing with acid reflux, which has a tendency to make you more particular about your sleep.

As per our tests, I found the Sleeping Duck Mach II to also have really good edge support which allows you to utilize more of the mattress surface.

Specs at a glance

Thickness levels 12.2 inches
Firmness levels Customizable
Materials Bamboo cover, polyfoam, high density polyfoam blocks, individually pocketed coils
Free trial period 100 nights
Warranty length 10 years

Sleeping Duck Mach II Performance

As I have mentioned, you can pick and choose between different firmness options for either side of the Sleeping Duck Mach II which can benefit couples with different sleeping styles.

We rate the Sleeping Duck Mach II an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

Though not as compressing as memory foam, I still found this mattress to be pressure-relieving. Your joints and back will be well-supported.

We rate the Sleeping Duck Mach II a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Perhaps due to its polyfoam blocks, the cooling capabilities are not the best, even with its cool to the touch bamboo cover and coil unit.

We rate the Sleeping Duck Mach II a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

This mattress is bouncy. There’s no way around it. Suffice to say it doesn’t absorb a lot of movement. You will feel a significant amount of motion transfer if you share a mattress with a partner.

We rate the Sleeping Duck Mach II an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The edge seams of the are very thick. The mattress also has reinforced edge coils which gives it very strong edge support.

Cons

Why it’s one of the best

The Glacier Original Hybrid does live up to its name and though not exactly glacial, it still sleeps very cool which is great for acid reflux sufferers who are also hot sleepers.

With a medium-firm feel, the Glacier Original Hybrid is best for those who sleep on their backs and stomachs and offers them the best support.

I also like that it helps those with back problems achieve better and proper spinal alignment.

Glacier Original Hybrid Performance Test Results

A 7.5 on the mattress firmness scale, the Glacier Original Hybrid has a medium-firm feel that skews more towards the firmer end of the spectrum.

This firmness level is best for those who sleep on their backs or stomachs, it will be a little too firm for petite side sleepers.

We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

While it may be too firm for petite side sleepers, the mattress still provides more than enough pressure point relief as well as responsive support to those who sleep on their backs and stomachs.

We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

The mattress sleeps very cool which is why I recommend it to hot sleepers.

We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid a 6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Even with multiple foam layers, it does not absorb movement very well so I don’t recommend it if you share a bed.

We rate the Glacier Original Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Not the best I have tried but I can safely say the edge support is adequate.

As with most all-foam mattresses, the Egohome Black has excellent motion isolating properties.

Egohome Black Performance Test Results

You get to choose between two firmness options: medium-soft and medium-firm.

The medium-soft version is best for side sleepers while the medium-firm version is good for all other sleeper types.

We rate the Egohome Black an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The mattress’ all-foam construction offers deep compression (especially its memory foam layers).

We rate the Egohome Black a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Unfortunately, the mattress’ all-foam construction also means it retains heat very easily. I would not recommend it to hot sleepers.

We rate the Egohome Black a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Like most all-foam mattresses worth their salt, the foam layers absorb movement very well. I did not feel any motion transfer whatsoever when I tried the mattress out with a partner.

We rate the Egohome Black a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Due to its lack of reinforced edge coils, the edge support is basically nowhere to be found.

Saatva Classic

Pros

  • White glove delivery

Cons

  • Edge support is too firm
  • Expensive

Why it’s one of the best

The Saatva Classic features a simple and streamlined construction that still packs a punch – in fact, it practically aced every aspect of our tests.

For acid reflux sufferers especially, sleeping on the Saatva Classic will have you waking up pain-free every single day.

The Saatva Classic is also treated with Guardin which is an antimicrobial treatment that helps keep the nasties away.

Saatva Classic Performance Test Results

You get to choose between three different firmness options: plush soft, luxury firm, and firm.

The plush soft is best for side sleepers. The luxury firm option is good for all sleeper types including combination sleepers. The firm option is best for stomach and back sleepers.

We rate the Saatva Classic a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The mattress only contains one comfort layer, but it does an amazing job at providing both support and pressure relief.

We rate the Saatva Classic a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

The cooling gel-infused foam and coil unit of the mattress work very well together at keeping heat retention at bay.

We rate the Saatva Classic an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Though not the best I have ever tried, the motion isolating capabilities are far from the worst either.

We rate the Saatva Classic a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The thick, raised edges are a little bit too hard and elevated for comfort, which is why it gets knocked back a couple of points (but it still is very sturdy).

How we chose these mattresses

We picked these mattresses based on a complete list of factors that we believe make up not just a great mattress that’s best for acid reflux . We used the following criteria:

  • Pressure relief – Everyone has pressure points and this is important when it comes to choosing the right mattress. Depending on a person’s sleeping position, mattress firmness can greatly affect whether you would get enough pressure relief or not. We chose mattresses that offer maximum pressure relief.
  • Cooling – Sleeping hot is the number one cause of sleeplessness. Choosing mattresses that offer superb cooling capabilities is crucial to getting a good night’s sleep.
  • Firmness – Mattress firmness correlates to one’s preferred sleeping position and we chose mattresses that can suit most, if not all, sleeping positions from back sleeping to stomach sleeping and side sleeping.
  • Motion isolation – Picking a mattress that offers good motion isolation is important if you share a bed with a partner. We chose mattresses that are suitable for couples.
  • Edge support – Not only does edge support help (and protect!) those who prefer sleeping close to the edge of the bed, having a mattress with good edge support also provides you with a wider mattress surface.
  • Durability – We chose mattresses that we know would last long and ones that come with reasonable return policies.
  • Ability to function while elevated – Acid reflux sufferers tend to sleep using adjustable beds, with the upper portion slightly elevated. We made sure that the mattresses on this list are still comfortable even when folded slightly.

Conclusion

I personally tested each and every brand on this list. In addition, I also enlisted the help of an assistant who is diagnosed with acid reflux disorder, who also slept on the mattresses and gave honest feedback on each one.

I’m confident that any of the mattresses in this article will be a good choice for you.
