Sleeping with acid reflux can be a massive pain. Literally. That’s why choosing the right mattress is so important. A good mattress can help relieve your symptoms, and a bad one can make them so much worse. I personally tested all the leading brands and determined that the overall best mattress for acid reflux relief is the Helix Midnight Luxe.

Top ten best mattresses for acid reflux symptoms and performance test results
#1. Helix Midnight Luxe

Pros
- Zoned support
- Best for side sleepers and combination sleepers
- Plush and pressure relieving
- Fiberglass-free
Cons
- Not good for heavier-set back and stomach sleepers
- Can retain heat

Why it’s the best mattress for relieving acid reflux symptoms
The Helix Midnight Luxe is an all-rounder: it did well across-the-board in my performance testing process.
I like the that the coil support unit does a good job of providing back support, which is crucial for people with acid reflux who typically sleep elevated using an adjustable bed.
The foam comfort layer helps you body feel cradled, yet it doesn’t sink in too much.
And the price point is really good: not too cheap and not too expensive either. Although you can downgrade to the Core Midnight or upgrade to the Midnight Elite, depending on your budget (I always like it when brands give you options at different price points).
If you aren’t sure which mattress to get, this is my top recommendation.

Helix Midnight Luxe Performance Test Results
The Helix Midnight Luxe sits at a 6 on the mattress firmness scale which gives it a medium to medium-firm feel.
It’s good for all sleeper types, with the caveat that I found it to be a bit too soft for heavier-set back and stomach sleepers.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The mattress did an amazing job at providing pressure point relief zoned support, which gives extra support to certain areas of the body that need it most (back and hips).
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 6 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Unfortunately, I found it to be a bit heat-retentive which can be an issue for those who sleep extremely hot.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
I did not feel any motion transfer whatsoever when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Reinforced edge coils surround the perimeter of the entire mattress giving it extra support. There was essentially zero compressing or sagging when I applied weight to the edge.

Alternate pick: Helix Dusk Luxe

The Helix Dusk Luxe is my recommended alternative to the Midnight Luxe if you want a firmer mattress.
If you’re overweight, the added firmness can help prevent sagging and support your back and joints.
As with all Helix mattresses, you can always downgrade to the cheaper Core Dusk or upgrade to the more expensive Dusk Elite.

Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Performance Test Results
You get to choose between three different firmness options: plush, medium-firm, and firm.
Depending on your preferred sleeping position as an acid reflux sufferer, you need to choose the firmness option that can offer you the most pressure relief and support.
We rate the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The multiple foam layers provided me with enough pressure point relief. The mattress’ coil unit did a good job at providing targeted support for my hips and shoulders.
We rate the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
As I’ve mentioned, cooling is the standout feature. The mattress didn’t retain any measurable amount of heat during my performance tests.

Why it’s one of the best
Sleeping with acid reflux can be painful.
That’s why I really like the Bear Elite Hybrid.
The proprietary foam layers that this mattress is made from do a good job of cradling your body while you sleep. Yet you don’t sink in too much, because those layers are supported by a really well-made coil unit.
The coils give in just enough on the parts of your body that need it (back, legs, head) and push back ever-so-slightly on the heavier parts of your body so they don’t sink in (shoulders, hips).
I also like the Celliant cover, which helps reduce sweating and overheating while you sleep.

Bear Elite Hybrid Performance Test Results
You get to choose between three different firmness options: soft, medium and firm.
The soft version is best for side sleepers. The medium version is good for all sleeper types. The firm version is best for back and stomach sleepers.
We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The mattress performed excellently in all my comfort and pressure relief tests. The foam comfort layers felt soft enough for my back and joints, and the coil support layer did a good job at preventing painful sagging, even when I added extra weight to the mattress for testing purposes.
We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The mattress sleeps very cool. This is due to both the coil unit (which helps provide airflow) and the copper-infused foam, which helps reduce heat in the comfort layer. It retained little measurable heat during my cooling tests.
We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
The mattress did a good job at isolation motion during my tests. If your partner tosses and turns, you’ll feel very little of it on your side of the bed.
We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 10 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Perfect marks when it comes to edge support. The mattress not only contains reinforced edge coils but reinforced edges as well.

The Bear Star Hybrid is my recommended alternative if the Elite Hybrid is too expensive for you.

You have three firmness options to choose from: soft, medium and firm.
Choose the soft version if you’re a side sleeper. The medium version is good for all sleeper types including combination sleepers. Choose the firm version if you’re a back or stomach sleeper.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 10 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
This mattress just feels luxurious when you lay down on it. I know that’s subjective, but I stand behind it. During the data-backed portion of my testing process, it did an excellent job at bouncing back when pressure was applied at different points on the mattress. It gets perfect marks in this category.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The mattress retained very little measurable heat during my cooling tests.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Because of the mattress’ plushness (even with the firm option), its foam layers do not absorb movement very well. You will feel a significant amount of motion transfer.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress’ reinforced edge coils are pretty much rendered useless by its plush comfort layers which makes its edge support nearly non-existent.

Alternate pick: Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid

For couples who need better motion isolation, I recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid instead.

We rate the Birch Natural a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Latex foam is springier by nature, so you will experience a good amount of motion transfer.

Though not as compressing as memory foam, I still found this mattress to be pressure-relieving. Your joints and back will be well-supported.

Perhaps due to its polyfoam blocks, the cooling capabilities are not the best, even with its cool to the touch bamboo cover and coil unit.

The mattress’ all-foam construction offers deep compression (especially its memory foam layers).

How we chose these mattresses
We picked these mattresses based on a complete list of factors that we believe make up not just a great mattress that’s best for acid reflux . We used the following criteria:
- Pressure relief – Everyone has pressure points and this is important when it comes to choosing the right mattress. Depending on a person’s sleeping position, mattress firmness can greatly affect whether you would get enough pressure relief or not. We chose mattresses that offer maximum pressure relief.
- Cooling – Sleeping hot is the number one cause of sleeplessness. Choosing mattresses that offer superb cooling capabilities is crucial to getting a good night’s sleep.
- Firmness – Mattress firmness correlates to one’s preferred sleeping position and we chose mattresses that can suit most, if not all, sleeping positions from back sleeping to stomach sleeping and side sleeping.
- Motion isolation – Picking a mattress that offers good motion isolation is important if you share a bed with a partner. We chose mattresses that are suitable for couples.
- Edge support – Not only does edge support help (and protect!) those who prefer sleeping close to the edge of the bed, having a mattress with good edge support also provides you with a wider mattress surface.
- Durability – We chose mattresses that we know would last long and ones that come with reasonable return policies.
- Ability to function while elevated – Acid reflux sufferers tend to sleep using adjustable beds, with the upper portion slightly elevated. We made sure that the mattresses on this list are still comfortable even when folded slightly.
Conclusion
I personally tested each and every brand on this list. In addition, I also enlisted the help of an assistant who is diagnosed with acid reflux disorder, who also slept on the mattresses and gave honest feedback on each one.
I’m confident that any of the mattresses in this article will be a good choice for you.
