Why it’s the best
The Helix Midnight Luxe is my top pick for the best hotel mattress for purely subjective reasons: it’s extremely comfortable, probably the most comfortable on this list for the vast majority of people.
Plush and luxurious, the Helix Midnight Luxe had me waking up practically pain-free (which is my favorite thing about the mattress).
The coil unit provides zoned support; so as plush as the mattress may be, I never felt as though I was being swallowed up by the bed.
I like that it also helps keep my spine in proper alignment.
Even though it’s a hybrid mattress, it absorbs a surprisingly good amount of motion which is great for those who share a bed.

Helix Midnight Luxe Performance Test Results
A 6 on the mattress firmness scale, the Helix Midnight Luxe feels more like a medium than a medium-firm.
While it’s good for all sleeper types, I mostly recommend it for those who sleep on their sides.
It may be too soft for heavier-set back sleepers and stomach sleepers, however, which is why I don’t recommend it if you weigh well over 300 pounds.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Plush yet supportive, the mattress did an excellent job at keeping pressure of my main pressure points and I woke up pain-free.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 6 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The memory foam layers of the mattress retained a significant amount of heat, so I can’t recommend it to those who sleep hot.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Even with a coil unit, the mattress performed just like an all-foam bed (and even better than some actually) when it came to absorbing cross-mattress movement. I didn’t feel any motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Reinforced edge coils surround the entire mattress giving it extra edge support. I never felt as though I was in any danger of rolling off the bed, whether I was sitting or lying on it.
The Midnight Luxe is a mid-priced model. You can always downgrade to the cheaper Midnight base model or upgrade to the more expensive Midnight Elite.

Alternate pick: Helix Plus Luxe

For heavier-set sleepers, the Helix Plus Luxe is a great alternative.
A hybrid mattress (just like the Midnight Luxe), the Plus Luxe can hold up to a thousand pounds of weight, making it a great choice for heavier-set sleepers.
The Plus Core is a cheaper version of this mattress and the Plus Elite is a more expensive version. Both are worth taking a look at, depending on your budget.

How we chose these mattresses
We picked these mattresses based on a complete list of factors that we believe make up not just a great mattress but a great hotel mattress. We used the following criteria:
- Pressure relief – Everyone has pressure points and this is important when it comes to choosing the right mattress. Depending on a person’s sleeping position, mattress firmness can greatly affect whether you would get enough pressure relief or not. We chose mattresses that offer maximum pressure relief.
- Cooling – Sleeping hot is the number one cause of sleeplessness. Choosing mattresses that offer superb cooling capabilities is crucial to getting a good night’s sleep.
- Firmness – Mattress firmness correlates to one’s preferred sleeping position and we chose mattresses that can suit most, if not all, sleeping positions from back sleeping to stomach sleeping and side sleeping.
- Motion isolation – Picking a mattress that offers good motion isolation is important if you share a bed with a partner. We chose mattresses that are suitable for couples.
- Edge support – Not only does edge support help (and protect!) those who prefer sleeping close to the edge of the bed, having a mattress with good edge support also provides you with a wider mattress surface.
- Durability – We chose mattresses that we know would last long and ones that come with reasonable return policies.
Conclusion
High-end hotel beds just have that certain something about them that always has you sleeping good day in and day out.
We have rounded up our top picks for the best hotel beds that money can buy that can cover a whole range of needs and preferences.
