Why it’s the best mattress

Consistently performing very well all across the board is what makes the Helix Midnight Luxe my favorite mattress.

From motion isolation and edge support to comfort and pressure relief, the Helix Midnight Luxe gets nearly perfect ratings and let me tell you, it’s quite rare for us to do that around here.

Aside from all that, it’s cushioning yet supportive enough for people who suffer from back pain.

The Helix Midnight Luxe sits at a 6 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-to-medium-firm feel.

This firmness level is good for all sleeper types but it may be a little too soft for heavier-set stomach sleepers.

The foam did a great job at relieving pressure during my hands-on tests. It’s a very comfortable mattress.

I found that the proprietary memory foam layers provide ample pressure point relief and compression. The coil unit also helps provide zoned support which in turn helps you achieve proper spinal alignment.

The Bear Elite Hybrid is the only mattress I’ve tried that can actually help with muscle recovery.

Celliant, which the Bear Elite Hybrid contains, is scientifically proven to help with recovery and it also is temperature-regulating.

This means the mattress can help you sleep warm when it’s cold and sleep cool when it’s hot.

Another thing of note with the Bear Elite Hybrid is that its copper-infused memory foam is also antibacterial making it a good choice for families.

Sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe feels just like sleeping on a 5-star hotel bed and that alone is reason enough to be on our best mattress list.

But there’s more.

Plush and pressure-relieving, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe did very well in my pressure relief tests, which also makes it one of the best choices for those who suffer from chronic pain.

It’s simply one of the best mattresses I’ve ever tried when it comes to relieving back pain and reducing pressure on joints and shoulders.

As plush as it may be it still provides more than enough support for those who suffer from back pain. This is the standout feature of the mattress. It did exceptionally well in the pain relief category of my performance testing process.

The mattress contains actively cooling materials in practically every layer of its construction making it one of the coolest mattresses on this list.

We rate the Nolah Evolution a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Though not the best, it’s not the worst either when it comes to motion isolation. It absorbs a good amount of movement, but if you share a bed with someone heavier than you are and you’re a very light sleeper then you will feel a bit of motion transfer.

Why it’s one of the best

I really like that the Birch Luxe Natural is backed by some of the most reputable organic certifications on the market: Greenguard Gold, GOLS, GOTS, and others.

With a lot of brands, the “organic” claims are just marketing fluff. So it’s nice to see one that takes its claims seriously.

The mattress did very well across the board in my performance tests. It’s comfortable, durable, and supportive.

Consistent as it may be though, the Birch Luxe Natural does have one tiny flaw and that it may be a bit too firm for strict side sleepers.

It may be a bit too firm for side sleepers. I think it’s best for stomach and back sleepers.

The mattress did very well in my comfort and pressure relief tests, especially when sleeping on my back and stomach.

Cooling is another area where this mattress excels. It did very well in my cooling tests due to the combination of latex (which is naturally cooling) and the hybrid coil unit (provides airflow).

We rate the Birch Luxe Natural an 8 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

While a lot of latex hybrid mattresses may be bouncier by nature, this one actually absorbs a good amount of movement. I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.

Why it’s one of the best

While hybrid mattresses reign supreme among the online mattress world, all-foam mattresses do still have a staunch following and the Egohome Black is one of the best.

The Egohome Black feels and sleeps just like a traditional memory foam mattress in that it cradles the contours of the body, providing maximum pressure relief.

One more thing of note is its motion isolating properties, which are hands down the best I’ve tried among all-foam mattresses.

Oh and one other thing: buying it won’t break the bank. It comes in at less than $1000.

Manmade foam is notorious for retaining heat and unfortunately, this mattress is not exempt from this inconvenient fact. It didn’t do great on my cooling tests so I can’t recommend this mattress to those who sleep hot.

Like most all-foam mattresses, this one absorbs any and all cross-mattress movement. I didn’t feel any motion transfer whatsoever when I tried the mattress out with a partner.

The mattress doesn’t contain any edge coils since it doesn’t contain a coil unit. This diminishes the mattress’ edge support.

Why it’s one of the best

The only mattress on this list that comes with white glove delivery, the Saatva Classic is in a league of its own.

But white glove delivery is not the reason why it’s one of the best.

The Saatva Classic’s simple yet streamlined construction works efficiently and amazingly well. It’s super comfortable and, based on my testing, retains that comfort for years without showing any signs of wear and tear.

The Saatva Classic is also treated with Guardin, an antimicrobial treatment that helps keep the mattress free from mold and mildew, making it a safe choice for those who share a bed with their kids.

Because of its hybrid construction, the Saatva Classic is a good mattress for heavier-set sleepers.

We rate the Saatva Classic a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The mattress only contains one comfort layer and that’s its gel memory foam layer. But somehow that layer along with its coil unit and micro-coils is enough to provide solid pressure point relief and lumbar support. This mattress did very well in my comfort and pressure relief tests in the Sleepline Testing Studio.

We rate the Saatva Classic a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Even without any active-cooling materials, the mattress doesn’t retain any heat and sleeps steadily cool.

We rate the Saatva Classic an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Though not the best, the motion isolation isn’t to be scoffed at either. I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried it out with a partner during the sleep test portion of the testing process.

We rate the Saatva Classic a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Here’s where Saatva overshot their hand – the mattress’ dual-coil design and reinforced edge coils give is too firm of an edge support to the point that it’s a little uncomfortable to get in and out of bed (a common complaint about Saatva mattresses).

This mattress passed my pressure point relief tests with flying colors. It’s also comfortable. Keep in mind that latex mattresses have a unique feel that’s not for everyone (feels more like sleeping on top of rather than ‘in’ the mattress).

Pure latex is naturally cooling and hypoallergenic. It sleeps cool and fresh throughout the night.

As I’ve mentioned, for a latex hybrid mattress, it absorbs movement even better than some all-foam mattresses. I didn’t notice much movement when I tried it out with a partner during my hands-on sleep test.

We picked these mattresses based on a complete list of factors that we believe make up not just a great mattress but the best mattress . We used the following criteria:

• Pressure relief – Everyone has pressure points and this is important when it comes to choosing the right mattress. Depending on a person’s sleeping position, mattress firmness can greatly affect whether you would get enough pressure relief or not. We chose mattresses that offer maximum pressure relief.
