This firmness level is good for all sleeper types but it may be a little too soft for heavier-set stomach sleepers.

The foam did a great job at relieving pressure during my hands-on tests. It’s a very comfortable mattress.

The soft version is best for side sleepers. The medium version is good for all sleeper types. The firm version is best for stomach and back sleepers.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 10 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
Perfect marks when it comes to pressure relief – it delivers cushioning and cradles all joints of the body while also providing enough support.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The mattress contains active-cooling materials including a GlacioTex cooling cover and copper-infused foam which helps with heat retention.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
The plushness of the mattress works against it here. Soft and springier than most hybrid mattresses, it really doesn’t absorb a lot of motion transfer. I experienced a lot of movement when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Even with thicker edge coils, the edge support is below average in my book.

Why it’s one of the best
The Nolah Evolution earned a spot on this best mattresses list primarily due to its pain-relieving properties.
It’s simply one of the best mattresses I’ve ever tried when it comes to relieving back pain and reducing pressure on joints and shoulders.
Another thing I liked about the Nolah Evolution is its cooling capabilities. It passed all my cooling tests with flying colors.
Specs at a glance

The plush version is best for side sleepers. The luxury firm version is good for all sleeper types including combination sleepers. The firm version is best for back and stomach sleepers.
We rate the Nolah Evolution a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
As plush as it may be it still provides more than enough support for those who suffer from back pain. This is the standout feature of the mattress. It did exceptionally well in the pain relief category of my performance testing process.
We rate the Nolah Evolution a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
The mattress contains actively cooling materials in practically every layer of its construction making it one of the coolest mattresses on this list.
We rate the Nolah Evolution a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Though not the best, it’s not the worst either when it comes to motion isolation. It absorbs a good amount of movement, but if you share a bed with someone heavier than you are and you’re a very light sleeper then you will feel a bit of motion transfer.
We rate the Nolah Evolution a 7 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Reinforced edge coils plus a border gusset surround the perimeter of the mattress giving it good enough edge support.

#6. Birch Luxe Natural

Pros
- Best for back and stomach sleepers
- Naturally cooling and hypoallergenic
- Offers responsive support
- Certified-organic
Cons
- May be too firm for side sleepers
- Not good for heavier-set people
20% off coupon code: SLEEPLINE20
Why it’s one of the best
I really like that the Birch Luxe Natural is backed by some of the most reputable organic certifications on the market: Greenguard Gold, GOLS, GOTS, and others.
With a lot of brands, the “organic” claims are just marketing fluff. So it’s nice to see one that takes its claims seriously.
The mattress did very well across the board in my performance tests. It’s comfortable, durable, and supportive.
Consistent as it may be though, the Birch Luxe Natural does have one tiny flaw and that it may be a bit too firm for strict side sleepers.
Specs at a glance
| Thickness levels | 11.5 inches |
| Firmness levels | Medium Firm |
| Materials | Organic cotton cover, plant-based fire retardant, organic wool, natural latex foam, individually wrapped coils, plant-based base layer |

Birch Luxe Natural Performance
The Birch Luxe Natural sits at a 6.5 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium-firm feel.
It may be a bit too firm for side sleepers. I think it’s best for stomach and back sleepers.
We rate the Birch Luxe Natural an 8 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The mattress did very well in my comfort and pressure relief tests, especially when sleeping on my back and stomach.
We rate the Birch Luxe Natural a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Cooling is another area where this mattress excels. It did very well in my cooling tests due to the combination of latex (which is naturally cooling) and the hybrid coil unit (provides airflow).
We rate the Birch Luxe Natural an 8 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
While a lot of latex hybrid mattresses may be bouncier by nature, this one actually absorbs a good amount of movement. I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Birch Luxe Natural an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress contains reinforced edge coils which gives the mattress excellent edge support all around.

Pros
- Deep compression
- Best for side sleepers
- Good for chronic pain
- Exceptional motion isolation
Cons
- Poor edge support
- Not good for heavier-set stomach sleepers
12% off coupon code: SLEEPLINE12
Why it’s one of the best
While hybrid mattresses reign supreme among the online mattress world, all-foam mattresses do still have a staunch following and the Egohome Black is one of the best.
The Egohome Black feels and sleeps just like a traditional memory foam mattress in that it cradles the contours of the body, providing maximum pressure relief.
One more thing of note is its motion isolating properties, which are hands down the best I’ve tried among all-foam mattresses.
Oh and one other thing: buying it won’t break the bank. It comes in at less than $1000.
Specs at a glance
| Thickness levels | 12 inches, 14 inches |

Egohome Black Performance Test Results
You get to choose between two different firmness levels: medium-soft and medium-firm.
The medium-soft version is best for side sleepers while the medium-firm version is best for those who sleep on their backs or stomachs.
We rate the Egohome Black an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The multiple foam layers provide ample pressure point relief while also helping you achieve proper spinal alignment.
We rate the Egohome Black a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Manmade foam is notorious for retaining heat and unfortunately, this mattress is not exempt from this inconvenient fact. It didn’t do great on my cooling tests so I can’t recommend this mattress to those who sleep hot.
We rate the Egohome Black a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Like most all-foam mattresses, this one absorbs any and all cross-mattress movement. I didn’t feel any motion transfer whatsoever when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Egohome Black a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress doesn’t contain any edge coils since it doesn’t contain a coil unit. This diminishes the mattress’ edge support.

#8. Saatva Classic

Pros
- Great for couples
- Good for all sleeper types
- Supportive and pressure-relieving
- White glove delivery
Cons
- Edge support is too firm
- Expensive
Why it’s one of the best
The only mattress on this list that comes with white glove delivery, the Saatva Classic is in a league of its own.
But white glove delivery is not the reason why it’s one of the best.
The Saatva Classic’s simple yet streamlined construction works efficiently and amazingly well. It’s super comfortable and, based on my testing, retains that comfort for years without showing any signs of wear and tear.
The Saatva Classic is also treated with Guardin, an antimicrobial treatment that helps keep the mattress free from mold and mildew, making it a safe choice for those who share a bed with their kids.
Specs at a glance
| Thickness levels | 11.5 inches, 14.5 inches |
| Firmness levels | Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, Firm |
| Materials | Organic cotton cover, Euro pillow top, gel-infused memory foam, 14.5 gauge recycled steel coils, 13 gauge micro-coils base layer |
| Free trial period | 365 nights |
| Warranty length | Lifetime |
| Shipping | Free |
| Certification | GOTS, CertiPUR-US |
Saatva Classic Performance Test Results
You get to choose between three different firmness options: plush soft, luxury firm and firm.
The plush is best for those who sleep mostly on their sides. The luxury firm is good for all sleeper types including combination sleepers. The firm version is best for back and stomach sleepers.
Because of its hybrid construction, the Saatva Classic is a good mattress for heavier-set sleepers.
We rate the Saatva Classic a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The mattress only contains one comfort layer and that’s its gel memory foam layer. But somehow that layer along with its coil unit and micro-coils is enough to provide solid pressure point relief and lumbar support. This mattress did very well in my comfort and pressure relief tests in the Sleepline Testing Studio.
We rate the Saatva Classic a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Even without any active-cooling materials, the mattress doesn’t retain any heat and sleeps steadily cool.
We rate the Saatva Classic an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Though not the best, the motion isolation isn’t to be scoffed at either. I barely felt any motion transfer when I tried it out with a partner during the sleep test portion of the testing process.
We rate the Saatva Classic a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Here’s where Saatva overshot their hand – the mattress’ dual-coil design and reinforced edge coils give is too firm of an edge support to the point that it’s a little uncomfortable to get in and out of bed (a common complaint about Saatva mattresses).

The Sweet Zzz Honey Hybrid comes in three different firmness levels: medium-soft, medium-firm and firm.
The medium-soft version is best for side sleepers. The medium-firm version is good for all sleeper types. The firm version is best for those who sleep on their backs or stomachs.
We rate the Sweet Zzz Honey Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
This mattress passed my pressure point relief tests with flying colors. It’s also comfortable. Keep in mind that latex mattresses have a unique feel that’s not for everyone (feels more like sleeping on top of rather than ‘in’ the mattress).
We rate the Sweet Zzz Honey Hybrid an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Pure latex is naturally cooling and hypoallergenic. It sleeps cool and fresh throughout the night.
We rate the Sweet Zzz Honey Hybrid an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
As I’ve mentioned, for a latex hybrid mattress, it absorbs movement even better than some all-foam mattresses. I didn’t notice much movement when I tried it out with a partner during my hands-on sleep test.
We rate the Sweet Zzz Honey Hybrid a 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress has reinforced edge coils which gives it extra support around the perimeter.

#10. Puffy Royal

Pros
- Plush and cushioning
- Good for all sleeper types
- Cooling
- Pressure-relieving
Cons
- Expensive
- Not the best edge support
Why it’s one of the best mattresses
If plush and luxurious were the only categories on your checklist then the Puffy Royal mattress is the best brand for you.
Containing ten layers of proprietary foam, the Puffy Royal makes you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud.
These layers help absorb motion transfer, making it a good choice for couples who share similar sleeping positions.
Specs at a glance
| Thickness levels | 14 inches |

Puffy Royal Performance Test Results
The Puffy Royal sits at a 5 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a true medium feel.
This makes it good for all sleeper types.
Since it’s a hybrid mattress, the Puffy Royal can support sleepers who weigh well over 300 lbs.
We rate the Puffy Royal a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
This mattress did extremely well in my comfort and pressure relief tests. The ten different layers of foam are doing a lot of the heavy lifting here, and give it a subjectively luxurious feel.
We rate the Puffy Royal an 8 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Most of the foam layers are made with actively-cooling materials which help dissipate any heat.
We rate the Puffy Royal a 9 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Once again the multiple layers of foam take center stage especially when it comes to deadening cross-mattress movement. I did not feel any motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.
We rate the Puffy Royal a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
Even though it does contain edge coils, its foam layers lessen its effectiveness which is why I give edge support below-average marks.

How we chose these mattresses
We picked these mattresses based on a complete list of factors that we believe make up not just a great mattress but the best mattress . We used the following criteria:
- Pressure relief – Everyone has pressure points and this is important when it comes to choosing the right mattress. Depending on a person’s sleeping position, mattress firmness can greatly affect whether you would get enough pressure relief or not. We chose mattresses that offer maximum pressure relief.
- Cooling – Sleeping hot is the number one cause of sleeplessness. Choosing mattresses that offer superb cooling capabilities is crucial to getting a good night’s sleep.
- Firmness – Mattress firmness correlates to one’s preferred sleeping position and we chose mattresses that can suit most, if not all, sleeping positions from back sleeping to stomach sleeping and side sleeping.
- Motion isolation – Picking a mattress that offers good motion isolation is important if you share a bed with a partner. We chose mattresses that are suitable for couples.
- Edge support – Not only does edge support help (and protect) those who prefer sleeping close to the edge of the bed, having a mattress with good edge support also provides you with a wider mattress surface.
- Durability – We chose mattresses that we know would last long and ones that come with reasonable return policies.
Conclusion
I ran hundreds of different brands through Sleepline’s series of hands-on, data-backed performance tests in categories including comfort and pressure relief; cooling; edge support; and motion isolation.
The brands on this list are the ones that scored the highest marks.
I’m confident that these are the best mattress brands you can buy.

We personally test and rate mattresses using the following strict quantitative criteria:
