Why it’s the best stomach sleeper mattress

The Helix Dawn Luxe is made specifically for sleepers who need extra support in the lumbar area (i.e. most stomach sleepers).

It has dense memory foam layers that provide a cradled-in feel.

One more thing of note is that it has excellent edge support, which allows you to sleep on more of the mattress surface. I have to say, the bed does feel bigger when I tried it out.

Motion isolation is another standout feature.

That makes it a great mattress if you’re part of a couple where one (or both) of you tosses and turns while sleeping.

Helix Dawn Luxe Performance Test Results

The Helix Dawn Luxe sits on an 8 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a firm feel.

This firmness level is good for stomach sleepers because it gives you extra lumbar support.

Since it’s a hybrid mattress, it’s also good for heavier-set sleepers.

We rate the Helix Dawn Luxe a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The firm feel gave me a lot of back support. Pressure point relief was also good, which was something I was worried about with a mattress this firm. It gave in just enough to avoid causing any pain on my hips and shoulders.

We rate the Helix Dawn Luxe a 7 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

The mattress does retain some heat. Unfortunately, that’s the price you pay when you have a mattress with this many layers of memory foam. You do have the option to upgrade the mattress cover to a more cooling GlacioTex cover, which actually does help quite a bit.

We rate the Helix Dawn Luxe an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Thanks to the eight layers of foam, the mattress absorbs movement very well. I barely felt any movement when I tried the mattress out with a partner.

We rate the Helix Dawn Luxe a 9 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Reinforced edge coils surround the perimeter, giving the mattress sturdy edge support. There was no noticeable sagging or compression when I applied weight to the edge of the mattress.

Alternate pick: Helix Midnight Luxe

Helix Midnight Luxe mattress performance tests
Helix Midnight Luxe

The Helix Midnight Luxe is my recommended alternative if you want something a bit softer.

Since it has a medium-firm feel (compared to the true firm feel of the Dawn Luxe), it gives in a little bit more when you sleep on it.

Extra-firm mattresses aren’t right for everyone. If you’re one of those people who can’t stand a firm mattress, I definitely think you should give the Midnight Luxe a shot.

You can also downgrade to the Core Midnight or upgrade to the Midnight Elite, depending on your budget.

Cons

  • Edge support could be better

Why it’s one of the best

The name might be a dead giveaway but the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid’s most outstanding feature is its cooling capabilities.

It’s my top recommendation for stomach sleepers who sleep hot.

Another thing I liked the most about the Chill Hybrid is that it helps support your back while sleep (even when sleeping on your belly).

Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Performance Test Results

The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid comes in three different firmness options: plush, medium-firm, and firm.

Stomach sleepers should choose the firm version.

We rate the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The mattress subjectively felt comfortable when I tried it out during the sleep test portion of my hands-on trial. The foam layers are doing the heavy lifting here: they compress just enough to relieve pressure without making you feel like you’re being swallowed up by the bed.

We rate the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

The mattress sleeps very cool. There was no discernable heat retention during my cooling tests, which is why it’s my top recommendation for hot sleepers.

We rate the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

The multiple foam layers do a good job of absorbing cross-mattress movement. I definitely recommend it if you’re buying a mattress for a couple.

We rate the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Although it technically does have reinforced edge coils, the edge support was mediocre during my tests. There was a moderate amount of compression and sagging when I applied weight to different points on the perimeter of the bed.

The Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid is my recommended alternative if you’re looking for a mattress for a heavy person.

#3. Bear Elite Hybrid

Bear Elite Hybrid mattress stomach sleeper test

Pros

  • Temperature-regulating
  • Amazing edge support
  • Supportive and pressure-relieving

Cons

  • Might be too thick for those with limited mobility
  • Slight off-gassing

Why it’s one of the best

The main feature of the Bear Elite Hybrid is its Celliant cover which helps with muscle recovery while you sleep. This makes it good for those who lead active lifestyles.

Celliant is also scientifically proven to be temperature-regulating which means you sleep cool when it’s hot and you sleep warm when it’s cold.

Memory foam layers make up the comfort layers of the Bear Elite Hybrid which help provide pain relief from the main pressure points that are common when sleeping on your stomach.

A pocketed coil support core provides zoned support while also helping with the stability of the mattress.

Bear Elite Hybrid Performance Test Results

You get to choose between three different firmness levels: soft, medium, and firm.

The firm version is best for stomach sleepers and it’s also good for back sleepers. The medium version is good for all sleeper types (choose this if you’re a stomach sleeper who hates firm mattresses). The soft version is intended for side sleepers and is not good for people who sleep on their stomach.

We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The memory foam layers provide pressure point relief. The coil unit helps support your back and joints. I have to say the mattress performed very well in my comfort and pressure relief tests.

We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

The Celliant cover is temperature-regulating. That plus the fact that the mattress contains copper-infused foam – which is a good heat conductor – makes for a very cool sleeping experience. It retained little-to-no heat during my cooling tests in the Sleeping Testing Studio.

We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Although the mattress has fewer foam layers compared to the other brands on this list, it still performed well in my motion isolation tests. There was barely any motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.

We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 10 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The mattress contains reinforced edge coils which gives it excellent edge support.

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Performance Test Results

You get to choose between 3 different firmness levels with the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe: soft, medium, and firm.

Since you’re a stomach sleeper, the firm version would be the best firmness level for you. The medium version is also a good choice if you know for a fact that you don’t like firm mattresses. Avoid the soft version, which is really only good for side sleepers.

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 10 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The multiple foam layers provide deep cushioning (which helps cradle the joints for maximum pain relief) and also help support your back.

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

The mattress slept very cool and retained very little measurable heat during my performance tests.

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Because of the mattress’ plushness (even with its firmer options), it doesn’t absorb movement very well. I experienced a significant amount of motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.

We rate the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The mattress’ plush layers somehow cancel out reinforced edge coils. You will find yourself sinking into the edge of the bed.

#5. Nolah Evolution

Pros

  • Helps relieve back pain
  • Cooling
  • Plush and luxurious

Cons

  • Edge support could be better
  • May be too pricey for some

Additional $50 off coupon code: SLEEPLINE50

Why it’s one of the best

The Nolah Evolution mattress would have to be my top pick for stomach sleepers who suffer from back pain and joint pain.

The proprietary foam layers of the mattress help relieve back pain as well as joint pain.

The supportive coil unit helps to make sure your stomach doesn’t sink in too much when sleeping on your belly, which in turn reduces the amount of back pain you experience.

Another thing I liked a lot about the Nolah Evolution is that it did very well on my cooling tests, making it a good choice for hot sleepers.

Specs at a glance

Nolah Evolution Performance Test Results

The Nolah Evolution comes in three different firmness levels: soft, medium, and firm.

As a stomach sleeper, the firm version is your best bet. The medium version is the second best choice because it’s made for all sleeper types (including stomach sleepers). The soft version is only for side sleepers and should be avoided.

We rate the Nolah Evolution a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

Even with its plush Euro top, the firm version still provides enough zoned support and pressure relief for strict stomach sleepers.

We rate the Nolah Evolution a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

The mattress retained very little measurable heat during my cooling tests. If you’re a hot sleeper, this is a good brand to go with.

We rate the Nolah Evolution a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Though not the best, the motion isolating properties aren’t the worst either. There will be a small amount of motion transfer, but only if you share a bed with a partner that’s heavier than you are and you are also a light sleeper.

We rate the Nolah Evolution a 7 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The mattress has reinforced edge coils as well as a border gusset which gives it adequate edge support.

Plank Firm Luxe Performance Test Results

The Plank Firm Luxe has a flippable dual-firmness design with one side of the mattress a firm and the other an extra-firm.

These firmness levels are only suitable for stomach sleepers and some back sleepers.

We rate the Plank Firm Luxe mattress an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

Made especially for stomach sleepers and some back sleepers, the mattress provides extra lumbar support while also helping with proper spinal alignment. Even on the extra-firm side, it still provides ample pressure point relief for stomach sleepers.

We rate the Plank Firm Luxe a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

This mattress is hard as a board. That means you won’t sink into the bed and you won’t be enveloped in your own body heat. Since you sleep ‘on’ instead of ‘in’ the mattress, you get a much cooler sleeping experience.

We rate the Plank Firm Luxe a 7 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Because of its thick coil unit, you may experience a tiny amount of movement, especially if you share a bed with a partner who tosses and turns in their sleep.

We rate the Plank Firm Luxe a 10 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The mattress contains reinforced edge coils, giving it very strong edge support. There was no measurable compression or sagging when I applied weight to the perimeter.

Cons

  • Poor edge support

But don’t let the low cost fool you. This mattress both looks and feels high-end.

Happsy keeps their costs down by sourcing and producing everything in-house.

The mattress is certified organic and all-natural, so it’s my top recommendation if you’re looking for a brand that doesn’t use any harmful or toxic materials in its construction.

The Happsy mattress is cooling and hypoallergenic making it a great choice for stomach sleepers who also suffer from chronic allergies.

Firmness levels Medium Soft, Medium Firm
Materials Organic cotton cover, wool batting, organic latex foam, pocketed coils, organic cotton filling

Happsy Organic Mattress Performance Test Results

You have two firmness options to choose from with the Happsy Organic Mattress: plush and medium-firm.

Stomach sleepers should opt for the medium-firm version since it will give you the most support.

We rate the Happsy Organic Mattress an 8 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

Although latex mattresses do not have as much ‘give’ as memory foam mattresses, that actually works out very well for stomach sleepers, especially those who are heavier-set. This mattress provides enough pressure relief as well as responsive support.

We rate the Happsy Organic Mattress a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Pure latex is naturally cooling. That plus the mattress’ wool batting which is temperature-regulating makes this one of the coolest mattresses on this list.

We rate the Happsy Organic Mattress a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Latex foam is inherently springy, so I did experience a small amount of motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner.

We rate the Happsy Organic Mattress a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The mattress doesn’t contain any reinforced edges and it definitely shows with its lack of edge support.

Eco Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress

Pros

Cons

  • Earthy smell
  • Slight motion transfer

Why it’s one of the best

Certified organic and all-natural, the Eco Terra Latex Hybrid is good for stomach sleepers who lead a ‘greener’ lifestyle.

One thing that stands out to me the most with the Eco Terra Latex Hybrid is its edge support – it has one of the best I have ever tried.

The Eco Terra Latex Hybrid is good for heavyweight sleepers who weigh up to 400 pounds.

Eco Terra Latex Hybrid Performance Test Results

The Eco Terra Latex Hybrid comes in two different firmness options: medium-soft and medium.

Stomach sleepers should opt for the medium version, which is made for all sleeper types.

We rate the Eco Terra Latex Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The mattress has a very simple construction with only two layers, but it still provided enough pressure point relief and responsive support when I tried the mattress out.

We rate the Eco Terra Latex Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Pure latex is naturally cooling. Combined with the coil unit which allows for greater airflow, the mattress provides a cooling sleeping experience.

We rate the Eco Terra Latex Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Unlike other latex hybrid mattresses, this one performed well when I tried it out with a partner. There was barely any motion transfer.

We rate the Eco Terra Latex Hybrid a 10 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

This mattress got full marks during our edge support test. You will not find yourself rolling off the edge of the bed.

#9. Latex for Less Hybrid

Latex for Less Hybrid mattress in the Sleepline Testing Studio
Latex for Less Hybrid Latex Mattress

Pros

  • Hypoallergenic
  • Responsive support
  • Budget-friendly

Cons

  • Edge support could be better
  • Slight earthy smell

Why it’s one of the best

Here’s another latex hybrid mattress that’s fairly affordable.

Latex for Less (just like the Happsy Organic Mattress) manages to keep their costs down by sourcing everything themselves.

The standout feature of the Latex for Less Hybrid mattress for me would have to be its pain-relieving benefits – I woke up practically pain-free even after sleeping on it for just a few nights.

Specs at a glance

Thickness levels 12 inches

Materials Organic cotton cover, organic wool fire retardant, organic latex foam, pocketed coil core

Latex for Less Hybrid Performance Test Results

You get to choose between two different firmness options with the Latex for Less Hybrid: medium and firm.

Stomach sleepers should opt for the firm version as it will give the most support for the lumbar area.

We rate the Latex for Less Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The mattress has just one comfort layer, but it provides enough support and pressure relief for those who sleep on their stomachs.

We rate the Latex for Less Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Latex foam is naturally cooling and hypoallergenic, making this brand a good choice for stomach sleepers who sleep hot as well as those who suffer from allergies.

We rate the Latex for Less Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

I did experience a tiny amount of motion transfer due to latex foam’s inherently springy nature. It wasn’t bad, but if you share a bed with a partner heavier than you are, you may feel a bit of movement.

We rate the Latex for Less Hybrid a 7 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

The mattress doesn’t contain reinforced edge coils. Unfortunately, I have to say the edge support of the mattress is pretty average.

#10. The WinkBed

WinkBed mattress belly sleeping test
The WinkBed

Pros

  • Plush and luxurious
  • Four available firmness options
  • Good for heavier-set people
  • Zoned support

Cons

  • Slight off-gassing
  • Can be pricey

Why it’s one of the best

Although as a stomach sleeper you (naturally) sleep on your stomach, your back still needs support.

The WinkBed is the mattress brand that I’ve found to be the best when it comes to spinal alignment.

Even heavier people who sleep on their stomachs will find that their hips don’t dip into the mattress, which helps keep their backs straight and pain-free.

The WinkBed Performance Test Results

The WinkBed mattress comes in four different firmness levels: soft, luxury firm, firm, and plus.

Stomach sleepers should opt for the firm version while heavier-set stomach sleepers should opt for the plus version.

We rate the WinkBed an 8 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

The mattress performed exceptionally well during my comfort and pressure relief tests for those who sleep on their stomachs.

We rate the WinkBed a 7 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Though not the coolest mattresses I have slept on, it did a decent job at dissipating heat.

We rate the WinkBed a 7 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

While I did experience a small amount of motion transfer, it won’t be much of an issue unless you share a bed with a partner who’s significantly heavier than you are.

We rate the WinkBed an 8 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Reinforced edge coils surround the perimeter of the mattress giving it stable and good edge support.

How we chose these mattresses

I picked these mattresses based on a complete list of factors that we believe make up a great mattress that’s best for stomach sleepers. I used the following criteria:

  • Pressure relief – Everyone has pressure points and this is important when it comes to choosing the right mattress. Mattress firmness can greatly affect whether you would get enough pressure relief or not. I chose mattresses that offer maximum pressure relief.
  • Cooling – Sleeping hot is the number one cause of sleeplessness. Choosing mattresses that offer superb cooling capabilities is crucial to getting a good night’s sleep.
  • Firmness – Stomach sleepers need a mattress that’s at least medium, preferably skewing towards the firm side of the spectrum. I chose mattresses that are firm enough for the needs of people who sleep on their stomach.
  • Motion isolation – Picking a mattress that offers good motion isolation is important if you share a bed with a partner. I chose mattresses that are suitable for couples.
  • Edge support – Not only does edge support help (and protect) those who prefer sleeping close to the edge of the bed, having a mattress with good edge support also provides you with a wider mattress surface.
  • Durability – I chose mattresses that we know would last long and ones that come with reasonable return policies.

Conclusion

The mattresses on this list have been carefully chosen and provide just the right amount of lumbar support and pressure point relief for those who sleep on their tummies.

I ran each of them through a series of hands-on, data-backed performance tests in the Sleepline Testing Studio.

I’m confident that any brand you choose from this list will be a good choice.

How we chose these mattresses

We personally test and rate mattresses using the following strict quantitative criteria:

  1. Comfort
  2. Structural integrity and durability
  3. Firmness and support
  4. Cooling capabilities
  5. Pressure relief
  6. Edge support
  7. Motion isolation
