Our experience with Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress
The Awara Latex Hybrid mattress is moderately firm, responsive, and supportive. Latex is not a commonly-used material in hybrid mattresses but the combination of latex and a coil system makes for an ultra responsive bed that feels unlike any other.
Because the mattress is organic and naturally antimicrobial, it may be a good option for those who suffer from year-round allergies. The natural latex layer over the spring core is naturally cooler than traditional memory foam making it a good choice for those who tend to sleep hot or those who experience night sweats.
Firmness
We found the mattress a 7 to 7.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale, which makes it a medium-firm (1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest) . This means that the mattress skews more towards the firmer side.
The Awara Natural Hybrid mattress is responsive and supportive meaning that your body will not sink into the mattress, resulting in more pressure relief. Firm mattresses help your midsection and shoulders retain their natural alignment throughout the night.
The firmness of the mattress makes it well-suited for back and stomach sleepers. The natural Dunlop latex combined with spring base helps most stomach and back sleepers relieve pressure from their hips and midsection. The mattress might also work well for some combination sleepers. If you are a strict side sleeper you will be more comfortable with a softer mattress like the Amerisleep AS5.
The mattress is a good fit for heavy and average weight back sleepers (130 lbs or above). However, light weight back sleepers (less than 130 lbs) might find it a bit too firm. Similarly, Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress is a good fit for lightweight and average weight stomach sleepers (130-230 lbs). However, heavy weight stomach sleepers should look for a firmer mattress so their body can stay aligned throughout the night.
The Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress is probably not a suitable mattress for side sleepers as it can be a bit too firm for them. Side sleepers should ideally look for a softer mattress that can relieve pressure from their shoulders and hips.
The Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress doesn’t do well with motion isolation as you can easily feel movement on the other side of the bed. If you are a light sleeper, you might want to look for a mattress that offers better motion isolation.
Construction
The Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress is 10″ thick and consists of three layers:
- Mattress cover
- Latex comfort layer
- Support Layer
The mattress cover of the Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress is made up of organic cotton and wool from New Zealand. Cotton, when blended with wool, makes the mattress cover soft and breathable. Wool is used as it is a natural fire retardant compared to fiberglass which is what most other mattress brands use. I could tell that the wool was high-quality just by touching it.
The second layer of the Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress consists of 2″ thick rainforest alliance-certified natural Dunlop latex which is sourced from the bark of rubber tree. It has no harmful chemicals or synthetic materials that makes it a great fit for people who are prone to allergies. The organic Dunlop latex is not only eco-friendly and long lasting but also provides responsive support to your body when you lie down on the mattress.
The support layer of Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress is an 8″ thick individually wrapped pocketed coils base. Pocketed coils offer significant support, especially for heavier individuals and for those who suffer from back pain. Since the coils are individually wrapped, air circulation throughout the base keeps the mattress cool as well. Because of its spring coil system which allows for better air circulation, we found the Awara Natural Hybrid to be cooler than all-latex beds. If you are a hot sleeper, this is a reasonable option if you are looking at medium-firm mattresses.
While trying the Awara Natural Hybrid mattress, we found that the mattress gives ample edge support and we didn’t feel like we were falling off the bed at all.
Sizes
The Awara Natural Hybrid mattress is available in 6 sizes. The mattress is 10″ thick and is compatible with most bed bases and bed frames, including adjustable beds.

Our Experience with Awara Premier Natural Hybrid Mattress
The Awara Premier Natural Hybrid Mattress is made of organic latex combined with a pocketed-coil spring base. The mattress is moderately firm and provides great response to pressure. The material used in the construction of this mattress is organic and antimicrobial, meaning that people who are prone to allergies will definitely find Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress helpful with symptom relief. The latex used as the upper layer of the mattress is naturally cooler than most traditional foam mattresses. Therefore, this could be a good option for those who tend to sleep extremely hot.
Firmness
The Awara Premium Natural Hybrid Mattress is a medium-firm mattress and sits on on 6.5-7/10 on the mattress firmness scale (where 1 represents extremely soft and 10 represents extremely firm). The mattress feel is very responsive. The difference between the natural hybrid and premier model is that Awara Premium Natural Hybrid Mattress has a 4″ Dunlop organic latex layer on top of a pocketed coil support base compared to the Awara Natural Hybrid mattress.
The Awara Premier Natural Hybrid Mattress is a good fit for stomach and back sleepers since it is a medium-firm mattress. Some combination sleepers will have to test for themselves and find out if it is the right choice for them or not. However, side sleepers should opt for a softer foam-based mattress like Comfy rather than the firm mattresses Awara is offering.
Stomach sleepers need a firm bed so their midsection doesn’t sink into the bed, contorting their body into a U-shape. This builds pressure and can result in back pain. The Awara Premier Natural Hybrid Mattress will be a good fit for most stomach and back sleepers since they won’t feel swallowed up by the mattress.
The Awara Premier Natural Hybrid Mattress is responsive. It won’t disappoint people who sleep on the edge of the mattress. In my experience I didn’t feel like I was falling off the bed when sleeping closer to the edge.
Construction
The Awara Premier Natural Hybrid Mattress is 12″ thick and consists of three layers:
- Mattress cover
- Latex comfort layer
- Support Layer
The mattress cover of the Awara Premier Natural Hybrid Mattress is made out blended organic cotton and wool from New Zealand. Wool is naturally flame resistant and offers great fire safety compared to other types of fiber. When blended with cotton it becomes breathable as well as fire retardant.
The second layer of Awara Premier Natural Hybrid Mattress is made out of 4″ thick rainforest alliance-certified Dunlop latex. The latex is produced free of any chemical adhesives and is antimicrobial. This construction keeps your mattress free from allergens, making it a suitable fit for allergy prone individuals.
The support layer of Awara Premier Natural Hybrid Mattress is composed of individually wrapped 8″ pocketed coils that help improve the breathability of the mattress and helps regulate temperature throughout the night. People who sleep hot will find this mattress cooling. The pocketed coil structure is tighter towards the edges giving it better edge support. The mattress is softer in the center compared to the edges.
We found the Awara Premier Hybrid Mattress to have average motion isolation. Because it is a very responsive spring mattress, light sleepers who share a bed with a partner may experience some motion transfer so this might be something you might want to take note of.
The 4″ organic Dunlop latex used in the comfort layer of Awara Premier Hybrid Mattress helps support the body and soften the impact of pressure around key parts of the body. Natural latex is free from adhesives and chemicals making it a great option for people looking for eco-friendly and organic products. The Dunlop latex used in Awara is breathable and doesn’t soften or sag easily.
The Awara Premier Hybrid Mattress comes with an easy-move base and 4 reinforced handles to help you move the mattress. The mattress is easy to set up as it comes packed in a box but weighs a lot for a single person to move around afterwards so you might need to enlist the help of a friend. We found that there is hardly any odor or off-gassing and it expands to its full size within 2 to 3 days.
