The Bear Elite Hybrid mattress comes in three firmness options making it suitable for all sleeper types. It also has great motion isolation, making it a good option for those who share a bed with a partner or a pet. Its additional edge support layer reinforces the sleep surface and can be very beneficial to couples. This is the thickest and yet best value mattress among all the copper mattresses on our list.
Firmness
The Bear Elite Hybrid mattress comes in three firmness options.
- Luxury Plush – Luxury Plush is rated a 5.5/10 on the mattress firmness scale making it a medium mattress. Strict side and combination sleepers will find this variant most comfortable as it won’t let pressure build up in their shoulders and hips. If you are under 130 lbs., this variant is suitable for you.
- Luxury Firm – Luxury Firm easily sits on a 6.5/10 making it a medium-firm mattress. This level of firmness is preferred by the majority of sleepers. Research shows that 80% of the population look for a medium-firm mattress while purchasing a new bed. Stomach and back sleepers who weigh under 230 lbs. will feel most comfortable on this bed.
- Extra Firm – The Extra Firm variant sits on a 7.5/10 making it most suitable for heavy set strict stomach and back sleepers who need extra support.
We found that the Bear Elite Hybrid gave excellent edge support due to additional edge-to-edge coils along the perimeter of the mattress. If you are someone who sleeps close to the edge like myself, then you are in for a treat.
Construction
The construction of the Bear Elite Hybrid mattress is quite extensive with 14″ thickness. It includes 6 layers:
- Mattress cover
- Memory foam layer
- Comfort foam layer
- Support layer
- Edge support layer
- Base layer
The Bear Elite Hybrid mattress has a cover made up of Celliant phase change material. The cover feels soft to the skin and adds plushness to the mattress while also helping prevent heat retention.
The Bear Elite Hybrid features two comfort layers of highly contouring copper-infused memory foam designed to help sleepers stay cool. Right under that layer is a zoned polyfoam layer that contours the body and offers targeted pressure relief. This layer also enhances airflow throughout the mattress and helps you sleep cooler.
There is an individually wrapped coil system under the transition layer for durable support which also adds a slight bounce to the mattress. If you are sharing your bed with a partner, you won’t feel disturbed by the movement on the other side of the bed because pocketed coils help prevent motion transfer.
A final layer of high-density polyfoam makes up the base of the mattress adding durability and sturdiness to the mattress.

Firmness
The Layla Hybrid mattress is flippable and comes with both a soft side and a firm side. The firm side falls on around a 6-7 on the mattress firmness scale making it a medium-firm. However, the soft side is around a 4-5 making it a medium soft.
The Layla Hybrid comes with an individually wrapped coil system that may account for the extra firmness compared to Layla’s all-foam mattress. Medium firmness is usually called a happy medium as it suits most sleeper types. Even if you’re a strict side sleeper, then this mattress can give you outstanding pressure relief for all your main pressure points.
The Layla Hybrid mattress provides excellent edge support so there’s no danger of falling off the bed for those who like to sleep close to the edge. Even heavy set sleepers weighing over 230 lbs. shall do well with a hybrid mattress as the coil system offers enhanced support to ensure comfortable sleep for heavier people.

The Layla Hybrid mattress is 13″ tall are contains 7 layers including covers on each side:

Both sides of the Layla Hybrid mattress feature a breathable fabric integrated with handles for easy flipping. The cover of the mattress is removable and comes with a zipper so you can easily take the cover off for cleaning. Little warning here; the cover is not machine washable so spot cleaning is a must. We always recommend the use of mattress protectors, so you can easily avoid any accidental strains.
The topmost layer of the Layla Hybrid mattress on both sides is a 2.5″ and 1″ copper-gel memory foam, on the soft and hard side respectively. Copper is an excellent heat conductor and helps the mattress stay cool for a long time. It is also naturally anti-microbial meaning it helps prevent any unwanted odor and helps keep your mattress smelling fresh.
Both sides of the Layla Hybrid mattress feature a transition layer of max airflow support foam. The soft side has 2″ foam and hard side has 1.5″ thick foam layer. Both the layers have deep channels to provide extra cooling as well as a zonal support for customized support of the shoulders and hips.
There is an individually wrapped pocketed coils support base sandwiched between all the transition layers. The 6″ and 14-gauge center pocketed coils offer maximum motion control while the 16-gauge double row edge coils provide superior edge support. A coil system also adds to the already cooling benefits coming from the copper mattress.

Firmness
Just like Layla’s Hybrid mattress, Layla’s Memory Foam mattress is also flippable with two firmness options. This mattress is an excellent choice for most sleeper types as there are soft and firm side available for back, stomach, side, and combination sleepers.
The firm side easily sits on a 7.5/10 and soft side a 4-5/10 on a mattress firmness scale. We found that Layla’s Memory Foam mattress offers great pressure relieving properties on its firm side. Stomach and back sleepers will be most comfortable with the firm side of the mattress. The soft side is most suited to side and combination sleepers as it offers the main pressure points like shoulders and hips that sink into the mattress much needed pressure relief.
The soft side of the mattress is quite plush and hugs the body from head to toe. This body cradling feature of the mattress helps sleepers avoid any pressure buildup and they won’t wake up with sore shoulders or hips.
We found that the mattress offers great response for people who frequently change sleeping positions during the night. The quick response rate and firmness of the mattress will help with shifting positions without feeling “stuck” in the mattress.
Construction
The Layla Hybrid mattress is 10.5″ tall are contains 6 layers including covers on each side:
- Mattress cover
- Memory foam
- Airflow support
- Support layer
- Airflow support
- Memory foam
The Layla’s Memory Foam features a textured, zipped, removable mattress cover with thermo-gel reactive cooling technology that activates with body temperature. It also features built-in handles for easy flipping. The soft side cover is light grey whereas the firm side is dark grey in color.
The firm side of the mattress has a 1″ thick comfort layer that is made with copper-gel memory foam, whereas the soft side has a plush 3″ thick layer of the same foam. This layer brings rapid cooling and helps with heat retention on both sides. The soft side offers support to deep compression areas for maximum pressure relief.
There is a 4″ thick support core foam in the middle of the mattress providing maximum motion isolation. This feature makes the mattress a great choice for couples no matter which side they sleep on.
The support layer of the soft side is made up of 2″ thick convoluted Max Support Airflow foam with enhanced cooling properties to minimize extra heat. It also features zoned SMT for added support to all the areas of the body that need it the most.
The firm side of the mattress also has a cooling cover but comes in black and grey. Right underneath the cover is 1″ of copper-gel foam with a firm, supportive feel that is excellent for back and stomach sleepers as well as sleepers who are a bit on the heavier side. Heavier sleepers are recommended to choose firm mattresses over a softer one.
The layers of the Layla mattress including the copper-infused memory foam are CertiPur-US certified and are made in the USA. Layla recommends spot cleaning for little spills as the mattress cover is removable but not machine washable. Mattress protectors are highly recommended in such situations.

#5. Bear Pro Mattress
Check Current Price | Best Cooling Mattress
Pros:
- Excellent pressure relief
- Great support
- Made with environment friendly materials
- GreenGuard Gold certified
- Sleeps cool
Cons:
- Not for heavier individuals
Who should buy the Bear Pro?
- Athletes
- Stomach and back sleepers
- Average weight sleepers
- Couples
- Hot sleepers
- Memory foam fans
Our experience with Bear Pro
The Bear Pro is a mattress made particularly for athletes and for people who live an extremely active lifestyle. Such people have a higher core body temperature even when they are resting. They need an extra cooling mattress with excellent support for spinal alignment as any problem that has to do with their spines and backs can affect their performance.
The Bear Pro mattress is cooling and offers great support from head to toe. It is a medium-firm mattress that is suitable for stomach and back sleepers who sleep hot. Some combination sleepers will also find it comfortable as the mattress offers a quick response rate for those who shift sleeping positions frequently.
Firmness
The Bear Pro mattress sits on a 6-7 on the mattress firmness scale making it a medium-firm mattress. However, foam firmness is definitely subjective and depends on a person’s weight and preferred sleeping position.
We found that the Bear Pro mattress is particularly good for lightweight back sleepers whereas medium firm mattresses are best suited to both back sleepers and stomach sleepers. But some strict stomach sleepers might find this mattress a bit too firm for their preference.
Average weight combination sleepers will also find this mattress a good fit but not heavy set combination sleepers. Similarly, if you are a strict side sleeper, you might want to look into softer all-foam beds such as the Casper mattress as this could offer more pressure relief.
We won’t recommend the Bear Pro mattress to people who weigh over 230 lbs. as it is an all-foam mattress and won’t offer ample support. Heavier sleepers tend to sink in more, especially with an all-foam bed. This is the reason we recommend hybrid beds to heavier individuals.
Construction
The Bear Pro mattress is 12″ thick and includes 5 layers:
- Mattress cover
- Copper foam layer
- Memory foam layer
- Transition foam layer
- Support layer
The Bear Pro mattress is encased in a soft mattress cover made of Celliant which helps a great deal in body recovery and performance along with temperature regulation. We found that Celliant cover helped us in staying cool. Even if you are using a mattress protector, the cooling element stays the same.
The Bear Pro mattress features a blend of gel memory foam and copper-infused foam, both of which are actively cooling. If you live in a hotter climate or sleep excessively hot, copper mattresses could be a good choice.
The topmost layer of the mattress is a gel memory foam layer which is another feature to ensure cooling. This layer also offers excellent pressure relief by contouring the body without any sunk-in feeling.
Right below the top layer lies a layer of copper-infused foam. Like discussed earlier, copper’s thermal conductivity helps wick away heat from the mattress. Furthermore, with its antimicrobial properties, copper offers a ‘cleaner’ sleeping experience, especially for allergy prone people.
The transition layer of the Bear Pro mattress adds response to the mattress making it a good fit for combination sleepers who frequently change sleeping positions. People who suffer from body pain will also benefit from this mattress as it not only brings relief to those who suffer from back pain but also to those who suffer from chronic pain like fibromyalgia or degenerative disc disease.
The support layer of the mattress is a high-density foam providing the mattress with sturdiness and also helping with premature mattress sag. We found great motion isolation in the Bear Pro mattress but the edge support was not as great as Bear Elite Hybrid. So, if you are a strict corner sleeper, you might spend a little extra and get that premium model for better sleeping experience.
Bear uses CertiPUR-US certified foam for all of their mattresses and is certified by Greenguard Gold as well. We did experience a slight new mattress smell upon unboxing the Bear Pro mattress which is normal for most other mattresses made of memory foam. An easy remedy to this problem is airing out the mattress in a well-ventilated room for a day or two.
Sizes
The Bear Pro comes in 7 mattress sizes and measures 12″ in thickness. It is compatible with any bed frame, bed base or foundation, including an adjustable bed base.

Why do mattresses contain copper?
There are multiple benefits of copper that make it a popular mattress material for mattress companies. Copper is an excellent conductor which helps to dissipate excess body heat from the mattress making it more comfortable to sleep on.
Copper has high absorption ability which further contributes to wicking away heat from the mattress. Copper is also naturally antimicrobial, meaning it keeps viruses, bugs and odors away from the mattress. There is enough evidence that people who quickly catch various allergies feel more safe sleeping on a copper-infused mattress. Copper mattresses are a great option for those who would like a good quality, cooling mattress that is also available at a fairly affordable price.
