Who should buy the Bear Elite Hybrid?
- Couples
- All sleeper types
- Hot sleepers
- Those who prefer hybrid mattresses
Firmness
The Bear Elite Hybrid is offered in three different firmness options which we’ve rated from 5 (Medium) to 8 (Firm) on the mattress firmness scale. These variations allow most individuals to find the firmness that best suits their need and preferences. Overall, the mattress has a balanced foam feel that does not make you feel overly stuck when you lie on it.
Although the Luxury Firm version of the Elite Hybrid accommodates the widest range of sleepers, we would recommend strict side sleepers the Luxury Plush version for maximum pressure relief. Whereas some heavier back and sleepers should opt for the Extra Firm version if they need additional support for their hips and spine. Sleepers who tend to overheat at night will also have a good night’s sleep on this mattress due to its cooling features.
Hybrid mattresses are generally known to have subpar motion isolation due to the use of responsive coils. However, this isn’t the case for the Elite Hybrid since it uses individually pocketed coils which transfer significantly less motion than interconnected coils. Another nice thing about the mattress is that it has strong edge support which allows you to utilize its entire surface without worrying about falling off.
Construction
The Bear Elite Mattress is 14″ tall and is comprised of four layers including foam and coils. Its materials are certified by both GreenGuard Gold and CertiPUR-US for both health and environmental safety. All of the Elite Hybrid’s layers are encased in a hand quilted cover that combines Phase Change fabric with Celliant fiber for breathability and recovery benefits.
A layer of antimicrobial copper-infused memory foam lies directly beneath the cover. This material has a slow response to pressure and it offers immediate body-contouring for the sleeper. And unlike traditional memory foam, the copper infusion in this foam combats heat retention for a cooler sleep surface.
Next up is a layer of zoned comfort foam which provides targeted pressure relief to different areas of your body. It also offers even weight distribution and it has an open-cell structure for extra ventilation. Below this foam lies the bed’s coil system which consists of individually-pocketed coils to provide support and responsiveness to the mattress.
In addition, the mattress also contains edge-to-edge coils around its perimeter for reinforced edge support. The coil system and also the foam layers above it sit on a layer of high-density support foam. This base layer acts as a sturdy foundation and provides structure and durability to the mattress.
Sizes
The Bear Elite Hybrid comes in 7 sizes and is compatible with most foundations and bed frames.

Our experience with the GhostBed Classic
The GhostBed Classic is the company’s flagship model and it uses a combination of latex and memory foam to give you supportive comfort. This mattress offers great value for money when compared to other mattresses that feature the same quality materials. It’s a good fit for those who prefer a firmer and bouncier mattress that allows you to switch positions with ease.
It’s ideal for back and stomach sleepers as well as some combination sleepers. Additionally, hot sleepers will appreciate the cooling technology that the GhostBed Classic offers. This mattress is eligible for semi-monthly payments through the Afterpay app.
Who should buy the GhostBed Classic?
- Back and stomach sleepers
- Combination sleepers
- Hot sleepers
- Those who prefer a firmer mattress
- Those who prefer the responsive feel of latex
Firmness
Despite having a gel memory foam layer the GhostBed Classic has a more responsive and bouncy feel due to its topmost latex layer. It does offer body-contouring and it evenly distributes body weight across the mattress surface. Our team rated its firmness at 7.5 out of 10 which means it’s quite firmer than average.
The GhostBed Classic’s firmness level is ideal for back and stomach sleepers who need adequate hip and lumbar support for maintaining spinal alignment. Combo sleepers will also be able to switch positions easily due to its bouncy latex feel. Although it might work for some heavier side sleepers, we would not recommend this mattress for individuals who weigh below 230 lbs. and sleep on their side.
A better mattress for side sleepers would be one that offers cushioning and pressure relief such as the Amerisleep AS5.
If you tend to sleep hot, the GhostBed Classic has cooling features to help you stay cool and fresh all night. It also has good edge support which is not that common for an all-foam mattress. However, the downside of this mattress is that it has pretty high motion transfer due to its responsive latex top layer.
Construction
The GhostBed Classic is 11″ tall and is comprised of three foam layers including latex and memory foam. All of the foams used in its construction are CertiPUR-US certified and are free of ozone-depleting substances. The mattress is encased in a stretchy polyester cover that’s breathable and soft to the touch.
Beneath the cover is a layer of synthetic latex that’s aerated for additional airflow. This material has a quick response to pressure which provides excellent mobility for moving around and changing positions. Below this lies a layer of gel-infused memory foam which provides contouring pressure relief and aids in temperature regulation.
Finally, the bed’s support layer is made of high-density polyfoam which acts as a base for the foam layers above it. This foam is firm and durable and it provides the mattress with shape and structure. Although the mattress emitted slight off-gassing, the smell dissipated after 24 hours in a well-ventilated room.
Sizes
The GhostBed Classic comes in 7 sizes and is compatible with most bed frames and foundations.

Our experience with PlushBeds Eco Bliss
If you’re looking for an eco-friendly mattress that’s suitable for all sleeper types, the PlushBeds Eco Bliss is an excellent option for you. It’s made with 100% organic latex and it’s available in three different heights for you to choose from. On top of that, the Eco Bliss is also offered in two firmness levels: Medium, and Medium-Firm; so you can select what suits you the best.
When compared with other high-quality latex mattresses on the market the Eco Bliss has a reasonable price point. If you think it could be a great fit for your needs, we recommend that you consider the Eco Bliss on your next mattress purchase.
Who should buy the PlushBeds Eco Bliss?
- All sleeper types
- Eco-conscious individuals
- Allergy sufferers
- Those who prefer latex mattresses
Firmness
Although firmness and feel might vary from person to person, our team gave the Eco Bliss a 5 and a 6.5 out of 10 respectively for its Medium and Medium-Firm versions. Since it’s available in three different heights, we would recommend the thicker versions of the mattress for sleepers that are closer to 200 lbs. Overall, the Eco Bliss has a bouncy and supportive feel that’s common in most latex mattresses.
If you sleep predominantly on your side, we suggest that you opt for the Medium version of the mattress. This version offers the most pressure relief for sensitive joints such as the hips and shoulders. Back sleepers can choose between the Medium and Medium-Firm version depending on their body weight.
We think the Medium-Firm version of the mattress could be suitable for stomach sleepers but only if they weigh 130 lbs. or less. If you’re a heavier stomach sleeper, we would steer you towards a more supportive mattress such as an innerspring or hybrid model. That being said, if you are set on an eco-friendly mattress but you need something that offers more support, try checking out the Saatva Latex Hybrid.
Lastly, we would recommend the Eco Bliss for those who suffer from nighttime allergies. Its natural latex layer is resistant to dust mites, molds, and mildew which might help you get better sleep tonight.
Construction
The PlushBeds Eco Bliss is available in 8″, 10″, and 12″ mattress heights. It’s comprised of three layers which contain materials that are certified by both GreenGuard Gold and CertiPUR-US. All of these layers are encased in a GOTS certified organic cotton cover that’s hypoallergenic and quite stretchy.
Directly below the cover is a proprietary fiberglass-free Eco Fire Barrier that’s derived from plant fibers. Then you’ll find a comfort layer underneath it that’s made with 100% natural Talalay latex that’s imported from ARPICO in Sri Lanka. This material distributes weight evenly and it provides better airflow compared to traditional memory foam.
Finally, the bed’s support core is made of proprietary PlushFoam which is essentially high-density polyfoam. This layer supports the latex layer above it and it gives the mattress overall shape and structure. The different versions of the Eco Bliss all have varying thicknesses in both the latex and support foam layers.

The PlushBeds Eco Bliss comes in 7 sizes and it compatible with most foundations and bed frames.

#4. Purple Mattress
Check Current Price | Best for Back Pain | Review
Pros:
- Suitable for all sleeper types
- Low motion transfer
- Responsive
- Cooling
- Great edge support
- Offers back pain relief
Cons:
- Not suitable for heavyweight individuals
- The unique Purple Grid might not be for everyone
Our experience with Purple Original
Known as the bed that started it all, the Purple Original mattress is Purple’s flagship model. It’s an all-foam bed that features Purple’s very own GelFlex grid layer which offers a unique feel that you won’t find in any other mattress-in-a-box. The Purple Mattress has a medium-firm feel that’s great for accommodating all types of sleepers including those who suffer from back pain.
If you’re looking for a responsive all-foam mattress that features special proprietary materials, you should definitely check out the Purple Original mattress.
Who should buy the Purple Mattress?
- Couples
- All sleeper types
- Those who prefer a more responsive bed
- Those who prefer all-foam mattresses
Firmness
It can be a bit hard to rate the Purple Mattress’s firmness because of its unique hyper-elastic gel polymer grid. We think it can range from a 5 to a 6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale depending on your body weight. Because of its medium to medium-firm feel, it can be a great fit for most sleeper types including combination sleepers.
This mattress is particularly suitable for back sleepers especially those who suffer from pain and stiffness. Its unique grid provides adequate spinal support and it contours to your body’s curves. Some side sleepers will also get good pressure relief from this mattress primarily those who are of average to heavy weight.
Combination sleepers will love how easy it is to move around and switch positions on the Purple Mattress. We also think this mattress could be a good fit for stomach sleepers but only those who weigh below 200 lbs. Individuals who are a bit heavier should opt for a more durable and supportive mattress such as the Layla Hybrid.
If you sleep with a partner and you don’t want to be disturbed by their movements, the Purple Mattress does a good job of isolating most of the motion to one side of the bed. The mattress also has reinforced edge support if you like sitting or lying near the edge of the bed.
Construction
The Purple Mattress is 9.25″ tall and is comprised of three layers which include the proprietary GelFlex Grid section. All the materials used in this mattress are CertiPUR-US certified for low VOC emissions and zero heavy metals. The mattress is encased in Purple’s SoftFlex cover which is made from a blend of polyester, viscose, and lycra.
Below the cover is the first comfort layer of the mattress which consists of the unique Purple Grid. The grid is made from a hyper-elastic gel polymer which remains firm and supportive until pressure is applied to it. It also has a waffle-like design to promote additional airflow to aid in temperature regulation.
Next up is a transition layer that’s made of responsive polyfoam which prevents you from sinking too far into the mattress. And finally, the bed’s base layer consists of high-density polyfoam which provides structure and durable support to the mattress.
Sizes
The Purple Mattress comes in 7 sizes and is compatible with most bed bases and foundations.
- Twin
- Twin XL
- Full
- Queen
- King
- California King
- Split King
Warranty
The Purple Mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial to help you decide if it’s the right mattress for you. It’s also backed by a 10-year warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship. Purple offers free shipping for all orders within the contiguous United States.

- Offers soothing pressure relief
- Excellent motion isolation
- Good edge support
- Cooling
- Budget-friendly
Cons:

- Slight off-gassing
Our experience with Tuft & Needle Original
Last but not least in our list is another flagship mattress but this time it’s from the bed-in-a-box company, Tuft & Needle. The original Tuft and Needle mattress is an affordable all-foam bed that offers great pressure relief and ample support for most individuals. It has a medium-firm feel and it’s infused with graphite to help you sleep cool.
If you’re looking for a mattress that offers lots of comfort and excellent value for money, the Tuft and Needle Original might be a great fit for you.
Who should buy the Tuft and Needle Original?
- Couples
- All sleeper types
- Hot sleepers
- Shoppers on a budget
- Those looking for a medium-firm mattress
Firmness
Unlike traditional memory foam which offers a soft conforming feeling, the Tuft and Needle Original features proprietary adaptive foam which is more resilient and responsive. You’ll definitely feel more “on top” of the bed than “in” it. After trying it out, our team rated the mattress a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale which corresponds to a medium-firm feel.
We think this mattress is ideal for back sleepers in particular as it provides body-contouring and lots of lumbar support. Moreover, it’s also a suitable option for side sleepers who need some gentle cradling for their sensitive joints. And since it’s pretty responsive and bouncy, this mattress would be a great fit for combo sleepers who switch positions throughout the night.
The Tuft and Needle Original also has great motion isolating properties which make it an excellent mattress for couples. It’s unlikely that you’ll be disturbed by a restless partner’s movements on this mattress. Lastly, this mattress is also great for hot sleepers due to its cooling graphite infusion.
Construction
The Tuft and Needle Original is a 10″ tall, all foam-mattress that’s comprised of two layers. All the foams used in its construction are CertiPUR-US certified meaning they are free from toxic chemicals and heavy metals. The mattress is encased in a breathable cover that’s made with a blend of micro polyamide and polyester.
Directly underneath the cover lies a comfort layer that’s made of the brand’s proprietary Adaptive Foam. This foam offers some nice contouring and it’s more resilient and responsive than traditional memory foam. Lastly, the bed’s base layer is made of open-celled high-density polyfoam which provides firm support and extra airflow to the mattress.
We did experience some off-gassing when we unboxed this mattress but that’s quite normal for compressed all-foam beds. To remedy this, we aired the mattress out in a well-ventilated room for 24 hours and the smell dissipated completely.
Sizes
The Tuft and Needle Original comes in 6 sizes and is compatible with most foundations and bed frames, including adjustable bed frames.

- Twin XL
