Pros and cons

ProsCons
Charcoal wicks away heat, odors and moistureNot for heavier individuals
CoolingMay be too thick for some
Suitable for all sleeper types

Activated charcoal has been used in everything from skincare to lattes and it was only a matter of time before it made its way to mattresses. Charcoal-infused foam has a wider, more open-celled structure which allows for greater air flow, keeping the mattress cool. Charcoal is also well-known for absorbing odors and moisture, thus keeping the mattress fresh and inhibiting the growth of mold and mildew which could also lead to dust mites.

The Slumber Solutions 14 Charcoal Memory Foam mattress contains activated charcoal within its top comfort layer, making it a good choice for those who tend to sleep hot and experience night sweats.

Who should buy the Slumber Solutions 14?

  • Hot sleepers
  • All sleeper types
  • Those who experience night sweats
  • Those who prefer all-foam mattress
  • Those who prefer the body contouring feel of memory foam

Firmness

The Slumber Solutions 14 sits on a 5-6 on the mattress firmness scale, making it a medium to medium-firm mattress. This means it is suitable for all types of sleeping positions, including strict side sleepers.

Some lightweight side sleepers though, have found the Slumber Solutions to be a bit on the firmer side, thus creating uncomfortable pressure points so if you weigh less than average and sleep primarily on your sides, you may want to opt for a softer mattress such as the Dreamcloud mattress.

Being an all-foam mattress, the Slumber Solutions 14 may not offer stable support for those who weigh over 250 lbs. We always recommend hybrid mattresses for heavier individuals.

Construction

Made up of layers of foam, the Slumber Solutions 14 features a charcoal-infused memory foam top layer that has that body contouring feel of traditional memory foam. This makes it an excellent choice for those who need extra pressure relief. If you’re looking for a more responsive bed however, this might not be the right choice for you.

That said, although most people experienced just the right amount of give with the Slumber Solutions 14, a few people who have tried it felt it needed more of that cuddle, sink-in feel that true memory foam is known for.

The Slumber Solutions 14 also features a support core that helps with spinal alignment while providing more enhanced edge support. I usually find myself sleeping close to the edge of the bed and I experienced no danger of rolling off upon trying out the mattress.

The base layer is made up of a high density polyfoam that contributes to the mattress’ medium firm feel while keeping all the top foam layers intact. The mattress cover is made up of a thick but breathable gray cotton fabric that features a jacquard design.

We experienced very minimal off-gassing with the Slumber Solutions 14, which we believe is due to the activated charcoal component. All of Slumber Solutions’ foam layers are CertiPUR-US certified and made entirely in the USA.

Sizes

The Slumber Solutions 14 comes in 6 sizes and measures 14 inches thick. It is compatible with most bed frames and bases.

Durability

Slumber Solutions offer a 100 night sleep trial for all of their mattresses, as well as a 10 year warranty. They also offer free shipping within the continental US.

Pros and cons

ProsCons

Cooling

Gel memory foam mattresses are not exactly new but most mattress brands nowadays come up with their own proprietary tech to come up with the ultimate in cooling and comfort. Quality sleep is hard to come by if you sleep on a mattress type that is wrong for you.

A gel memory foam mattress is a great mattress for those that experience chronic body pain as it contours and cradles the body, offering good pressure relief. Cooling gel also helps hot sleepers sleep a little cooler.

Who should buy the Slumber Solutions 12?

  • Those who suffer from chronic pain such as fibromyalgia
  • Hot sleepers
  • Couples
  • All sleeper types

Firmness

The Slumber Solutions 12 sits on a 4-5 on the firmness scale making it a medium soft to medium. This makes it a good option for all sleeper types including a strict side sleeper. Couples may also find the Slumber Solutions 12 to be suitable as we found it to prevent motion transfer when we tried it.

As we’ve previously mentioned, those who weigh over 250 lbs. will not find the Slumber Solutions 12 to be a comfortable mattress for the long term. The best mattress for heavier individuals would be a hybrid mattress such as the Nolah Hybrid.

Construction

Similar to the Slumber Solutions 14 Charcoal Memory Foam mattress, the Slumber Solutions Gel Memory Foam mattress also has three foam layers to its all-foam construction. The only difference between them is the top layer of the Slumber Solutions 12 features gel memory foam.

Offering a similar body contouring and cradling feel of traditional memory foam, the Slumber Solutions 12 also helps wick away body heat, making it a good mattress for hot sleepers that love how a memory foam bed feels. Regular memory foam has a tendency to trap body heat, especially for heavier sleepers.

The support core of the Slumber Solutions 12 is made up of premium foam that offers spinal alignment while providing firmness and support to the entire mattress. As with its charcoal counterpart, the edges feature a foam rails to help enhance edge support.

The base layer is made up of high density polyfoam which helps keep the top layers stable and secure and helps prevent premature mattress sag. The mattress cover does feature a thicker fabric than the Slumber Solutions Charcoal mattress but it features the same cooling abilities. It is not the most active cooling all-foam mattress we have however and if you’re someone who sleeps exceptionally hot, you might want to look into the Purple Original.

As with all its mattresses, the foam layers of the Gel Memory Foam mattress are CertiPUR-US certified and are made in the USA.

Sizes

The Slumber Solutions Gel Memory Foam mattress comes in 6 sizes and 3 height profiles: 10 inches, 12 inches and 14 inches. It is compatible with most bed frames, bases and foundations such as the platform foundation.

Durability

Slumber Solutions offer a 100 night sleep trial for all of their mattress which is on par with the industry standard in risk-free sleep trials among bed in a box brands. They also come backed by a 10 year warranty. So far, there has been no complaints about durability issues or reports of the mattress falling apart ahead of its time.

Pros and cons

ProsCons
Good for all sleeper typesNot for heavier individuals
Good for guest roomsSlight off gassing

A slightly lesser height profile might be preferred by some people, especially those who have kids. Children’s mattresses need not to be thick and heavy and should be easy enough to move around with.

The Slumber Solutions Active 10 Memory Foam mattress is made up of exactly the same components as the Slumber Solutions 14 Charcoal Memory Foam mattress, which features charcoal as its main cooling agent.

Who should buy the Slumber Solutions 10?

  • Those with children
  • Those who need an extra mattress for guest rooms
  • Couples
  • Lightweight individuals
  • All sleeper types
  • Those who suffer from back pain

Firmness

The Slumber Solutions 10 sits on a 5 to 5.5 on the mattress firmness scale, making it a true medium feel mattress. This means it is suitable for all types of sleeping positions, including strict side sleepers. It does skew slightly softer rather than firmer and if you’re someone who likes their mattress to be a bit on the firm side, you might do well with a mattress such as the Amerisleep AS2.

Again, being an all-foam bed, the Slumber Solutions 10 may not be suitable for individuals weighing well over 250 lbs as this would only let them sink into the bed further, creating spinal and lumbar problems in the future. A spring mattress is more well-suited towards heavier individuals.

Because of its medium firmness, the Slumber Solutions 10 can accommodate couples with different sleeping positions. We also found that it provided adequate motion isolation upon trying it out so if you sleep with a partner who tends to move around a lot, you wouldn’t be awakened by any sudden movements.

Construction

Made up of all foam layers, the Slumber Solutions 10 features an active charcoal-infused memory foam layer up top which helps with both heat retention and moisture wicking.

Staying true to its memory foam feel, sleeping on the Slumber Solutions 10 contours to the nooks and crannies of the body, giving optimum pressure relief. This is especially important for people who experience back pain or body pain. The same memory foam feel also does give that ‘sunk in, stuck in the mud’ feel so if you’re someone who switches sleeping positions a lot this may not be the right choice for you.

Similar to the construction of Slumber Solutions other mattresses, the Slumber Solutions 10 features 3 layers. The middle support core gives the mattress its firmness while helping provide edge support. It is also the foam layer responsible for providing spinal alignment and lumbar support.

The base polyfoam layer is the thickest layer and provides stability and durability to the entire mattress. This layer also helps prevent premature mattress sag. The Slumber Solutions 10 feature a soft, breathable mattress cover that also helps wick away heat.

We did experience a slight new mattress smell upon unboxing the Slumber Solutions 10 but this was easily remedied by airing the mattress out for a day or two. We also found that it took more than a few hours for the mattress to rise before we could comfortably use it upon unboxing. Most mattress-in-a-box brands typically take 48-72 hours to rise to its full profile.

Sizes

The Slumber Solutions 10 comes in 6 mattress sizes, including a King size mattress. It measures 10 inches in thickness and is compatible with most bed frames, foundations and bases, including and adjustable bed frame.

Slumber Solutions 8 Essentials

Slumber Solutions 8 Essentials

Pros and cons

ProsCons
Good for kidsNot for heavier individuals
3 firmness optionsPoor edge support
Pressure relieving

The thinnest out of Slumber Solutions mattress lineup, the Slumber Solutions 8 Essentials is a favorite among those who need an extra mattress for their guest room. It is also usually chosen for children’ rooms, especially those transitioning into a more adult bed.

While the thinnest, it is the only mattress that Slumber Solutions offers the option to choose between three different firmness levels, making it suitable for all sleeper types.

Who should buy the Slumber Solutions 8 Essentials?

  • Those with children
  • Those who need an extra mattress for their guest room
  • All sleeper types
  • Those who prefer a thinner mattress

Firmness

The Slumber Solutions 8 Essentials comes in three firmness options:

  • Soft – Suitable for strict side sleepers
  • Medium – Suitable for back, stomach, side and combo sleepers
  • Firm – Suitable for strict back and stomach sleepers

Being an all-foam mattress and a thinner one to boot, the Slumber Solutions 8 would not be the most comfortable mattress for individuals weighing well over 250 lbs., no matter the sleeping position. As we’ve mentioned previously, heavier sleepers need a combination of foam and springs to be able to get the support that they need.

The soft version of the Slumber Solutions 8 does have a slight pillow top feel to it when we tried it out, making it a good option for those who suffer from chronic pain and need more cushion. We also found that the firm version fared a tad better when it came to motion transfer.

Construction

Made up of three foam layers, the top two layers of the Slumber Solutions 8 Essentials feature memory foam. Similar to the first ever true memory foam bed, the Tempur-Pedic, the memory foam layers of the Slumber Solutions 8 offer excellent pressure relief while cradling and contouring the body. But because of the same reason, those who switch positions often throughout the night might be put off by cradling effect, which could cause that stuck in the mud feel.

The support core of the Slumber Solutions 8 is the foam layer that provides lumbar support as well as helping with spinal alignment. The base layer is made up of high density polyurethane foam that helps provide stability to the entire mattress. Being a thin mattress also helps avoid premature mattress sag.

It does lack the foam rails featured in Slumber Solutions’ other mattresses, resulting in poorer edge support. If you’re the type who sleeps closer to the edge, this may not be the mattress for you.

Like with all of Slumber Solutions other mattress offerings, the foam layers in the Slumber Solutions 8 Essentials are CertiPUR-US certified and are free from toxins or other harmful chemicals that could harm you or the environment. It is also made entirely in the USA with US-made components.

Sizes

The Slumber Solutions 8 comes in 6 sizes and measures 8 inches thick. It is compatible with most bed frames, bases and foundations, including a conventional box spring.

Durability

The Slumber Solutions 8 comes with a 100 night sleep trial and comes backed by a 10 year warranty. Slumber Solutions offer free shipping within the contiguous United States. Unfortunately, Slumber Solutions do not offer a mattress removal service for your old mattress.
