If for some reason you still aren’t familiar with Airweave, it is a Japanese mattress brand that was founded by Motokuni Takaoka. In the mid 2000s, Takaoka created the unique Airfiber material after realizing that the resin fiber of fishing lines could be repurposed for mattresses. The Airweave Mattress Advanced is the second model in the company’s mattress lineup and it’s made of three supportive and breathable Airfiber core blocks.
Unlike your average mattress, these core blocks have a Dual Mode feature that can be used to adjust the firmness of the mattress to your liking. If you want to try sleeping on something new and unique, the Airweave Mattress Advanced is one of the best luxury mattresses on the market.
Who should buy the Airweave Mattress Advanced?
- Elite athletes
- Couples
- Back and stomach sleepers
- Combination sleepers
- Hot sleepers
- Those looking for a luxury mattress
- Those looking for a firm mattress
Firmness
Airfiber is nothing like memory foam because it has little to no give and it doesn’t offer soft cradling for your body. This material is more supportive and responsive than most types of foam and it also promotes greater amounts of airflow. As we’ve mentioned above, the three Airfiber core blocks in this mattress can be rearranged to fit your needs and preferences.
The blocks for your head and legs both have a Soft and Moderate side, while the block that supports your back features a Moderate and Firm side. Our team of sleepers tried each firmness level and found the mattress to be a lot firmer than most of the models we’ve reviewed. We rated the Soft side a 7/10, the Moderate side an 8/10, and the Firm Side an 8.5/10 on the mattress firmness scale with 1 being extra soft and 10 extra firm.
Despite having a “Soft” firmness option, the mattress is still very firm and we would not recommend it to strict side sleepers. These individuals need soft cushioning and contouring to prevent pressure buildup on their hips and shoulders. If you sleep on your side, please try checking out our best mattresses for side sleepers list for some great options.
On the flip side, we think the Airweave Mattress Advanced is an ideal choice for back and stomach sleepers. It’s firm enough to offer adequate support for maintaining a neutral spinal alignment and its two pillow top layers provide contouring for your back. One thing though, if you weigh over 250 lbs. we believe it’s best if you opt for a more durable luxury hybrid mattress such as the Idle Sleep Latex Hybrid.
Generally, memory foam mattresses excel in motion isolation when compared to more responsive foams such as latex and polyfoam. The New Mattress Advanced is made of responsive Airfiber but it has a surprisingly low amount of motion transfer. Although you might feel your partner getting in and out of bed, you won’t be disturbed by their sleeping movements.
Even though the mattress has no coils, the sheer firmness of its Airfiber material gives it great edge support. You won’t feel like you’re about to fall off the bed when you lie down near its perimeter. Moreover, you can sit on the edge of the mattress without sinking and compressing its layers.
Lastly, the New Mattress Advanced is great for hot sleepers because Airfiber promotes lots of airflow to regulate temperature and keep you cool all night long.
Construction
The Airweave Mattress Advanced is 11 inches tall and is primarily made out of Airfiber. In addition to this, it also features two optional pillow top layers for added cushioning. Airfiber is antimicrobial and it does not attract mold, dust mites, and bed bugs.
The mattress is encased in a machine-washable outer cover that’s made of 100% polyester. The inner cover is made of 70% rayon and 30% glass fiber. You have the option of adding either one or two soft pillow top layers beneath the cover for some cushioning and pressure relief.
Finally, the bulk of the mattress is made out of three Airfiber core blocks which are 100% polyethylene. This material is interwoven to evenly distribute body weight and provide some bounce to the mattress. Additionally, the air space between all the woven threads promote airflow and breathability to make the mattress sleep cool at night.
One great perk of this mattress is that its Airfiber blocks are replaceable. When wear and tear occurs you can replace these individually instead of buying a new mattress altogether. Airweave has always been focused on promoting sustainability and this is just one of the ways they show it.
We did not experience any off-gassing from this mattress because it arrived fully decompressed and ready to sleep on after assembly. That’s uncommon for a bed-in-a-box brands because most mattresses need time to decompress and expand to their full size.
One important detail that I’d like to mention is that the Airweave Mattress Advanced has an extremely high price point. As such, we would not recommend it to people who are on a budget. If you’re looking for a mattress that’s more affordable go ahead and check out our best cheap mattresses list.

The Airweave Mattress Advanced comes in 6 sizes and is compatible with most foundations and bed frames. However, it is not compatible with adjustable bed bases.

This next model is no stranger to any most luxurious or high-tech mattress list as it’s one of the most advanced beds on the market. The Ghost SmartBed 3D Matrix delivers all the essential features that you need for a comfortable and restorative sleeping experience. Since it’s a smart mattress, it provides zoned support and it’s equipped with biometric sensors to track your sleeping patterns and accommodate your specific needs.
The Ghost SmartBed is suitable for all sleeper types because it allows you to change its firmness level by adjusting the amount of air in its multiple air chambers. These settings can be controlled through the Ghost SmartBed app on your smartphone or tablet.
Who should buy the Ghost SmartBed 3D Matrix?
- Couples
- All sleeper types
- Hot sleepers
- Individuals who want to track their sleep
- Those who prefer luxury memory foam mattresses
- Those who can afford a highly expensive mattress
Firmness
Although I mentioned above that its firmness can be customized, the Ghost SmartBed’s overall feel is very similar to that of a luxury memory foam mattress. Its top gel memory foam layer has a soft and cushiony feel that gently conforms to your body. This mattress is ideal for side sleepers as well as back and stomach sleepers who want a supportive yet contouring sleep surface.
The Ghost SmartBed has five ergonomically designed support zones starting from your head all the way down to your feet. Each of these zones can be adjusted to relieve pressure points across the different areas of your body.
For side sleepers we would recommend adjusting the bed’s firmness until it’s soft enough to cushion their hips and shoulders. On the other hand, back and stomach sleepers should choose a firmness setting that offers body-contouring and supports their hips and spine. I should mention though that individuals over 300 lbs. might sink excessively into the bed’s comfort layer and risk putting their spine out of alignment.
Heavyweight individuals should get the support that they need from sturdier hybrid mattresses and one good example is the Winkbed Original.
One important attribute that couples usually look for in a mattress is motion isolation. The Ghost SmartBed contains a soft memory foam layer which is great at isolating motion on one side of the mattress. To take it one step further, couples also have the option of choosing their side of the bed and making individual adjustments depending on their body weight and preferred sleep position.
Hot sleepers will be thrilled to know that the Ghost SmartBed is one of the best cooling luxury mattresses around today. It features a cooling cover, a gel polymer layer, and a gel memory foam layer which all aid in preventing heat retention to keep you sleeping cool at night.
Construction
The Ghost SmartBed is 12 inches tall and is comprised of six total layers which include adjustable air chambers and biometric sensors. This luxury mattress is encased in a unique cooling cover that’s made out of a proprietary material called Ghost Ice fabric. The Ghost Ice cover is soft and breathable and it also feels quite cool to the touch.
Below the cover is GhostBed’s very own 3D Matrix Gel Polymer layer which reacts to your body weight and draws heat away from you to keep you cool. Beneath it there’s a section of gel-infused memory foam which provides deeper pressure relief and also dissipates body heat. Next up is a transitional layer that’s made of soft transition foam which provides extra cushioning and acts as a buffer between your body and the air chambers below it.
Before the air chambers there’s a sheet of smart sensors which is designed to identify where pressure is building up across your body. Once the sensors determine your body’s main pressure points, you can see the results on your smartphone or tablet and make the necessary adjustments. These sensors also track and monitor your sleep patterns to help you enhance your overall sleep quality and health.
Under the smart sensors are medical-grade adjustable air chambers which are connected to your Ghost app so you can inflate or deflate them based on your specific needs. These air chambers sit on a base layer that’s made of high-density support foam which acts as a stable foundation for the layers above it. Aside from providing support, the base layer also adds structure and overall durability to the mattress.
One drawback of the Ghost SmartBed is that it has below average edge support. If you like lying or sitting near the edge of the mattress, you might feel like its layers are collapsing under your weight. We also experienced slight off-gassing when we unboxed this mattress but the smell disappeared within 24 hours.
Sizes
The Ghost SmartBed 3D Matrix comes in 5 sizes and is compatible with most bed frames and foundations, including adjustable bed bases.
- Twin XL
- Queen
- King
- California King
- Split King
Durability
GhostBed offers a 101-night sleep trial for the SmartBed 3D Matrix with a 30-day break-in period so you have ample time to try it out. This luxury mattress is also backed by a 25-year warranty that covers manufacturing defects. The company offers free shipping for orders within the contiguous United States.
#3. Zenhaven
Check Current Price | Best Eco-Friendly Mattress | Review
Pros:
- Flippable design
- Ideal for combination sleepers
- Suitable for all sleeper types
- Responsive
- Eco-friendly
- Cooling
Cons:
- Average edge support
- High motion transfer
- Might be too firm for some
- Not suitable for side sleepers below 130 lbs.
Coming up next in our best luxurious mattresses list is the all-natural Zenhaven mattress which is made by Saatva. Made with sustainably sourced Talalay latex, this mattress has a flippable design which gives you two firmness options to choose from: Luxury Plush, and Gentle Firm. Therefore, most individuals should be able to find a great fit for their needs in terms of comfort and support.
The Zenhaven is also a viable option for hot sleepers since latex mattresses provide more ventilation than memory foam beds. If you’re an eco-conscious individual who’s looking for a durable and responsive mattress, the Zenhaven could be the luxury bed for you.
Who should buy the Zenhaven?
- Combination sleepers
- Back and stomach sleepers
- Hot sleepers
- Allergy sufferers
- Eco-conscious individuals
- Those who prefer luxury latex mattresses
- Those who prefer a more responsive bed
Firmness
Since it’s made completely out of latex, the Zenhaven has a quick response to pressure. Instead of providing a conforming hug feel like most memory foam mattresses, this mattress has more of a bouncy foam feel. And because of its flippable design, you can choose which side of the mattress you want to sleep on: the Luxury Plush side, or the Gentle Firm side.
We recommend the Luxury Plush side of the mattress for side sleepers who need pressure relief for their hips and shoulders. However, we do think that lightweight side sleepers (below 130 lbs.) might find the mattress a bit too firm for comfort. If you need a softer mattress, try checking out our best memory foam mattresses list for some great options.
Combination sleepers and lightweight back sleepers should also opt for the Luxury Plush side of the mattress. It’s very easy for combo sleepers to move around and switch positions, whereas back sleepers will receive adequate support and pressure relief. On the other hand, heavier back and stomach sleepers should sleep on the Gentle Firm side of the mattress for extra hip and lumbar support.
We also think that hot sleepers will enjoy sleeping on the Zenhaven since latex has a breathable open-cell structure. It naturally promotes airflow to regulate the temperature of the mattress and keep you sleeping cool and fresh through the night.
Finally, we don’t think the Zenhaven is the best mattress for couples because it transfers quite a lot of motion across its surface. Your sleep might be interrupted if you have a restless partner that moves around a lot or gets in and out of bed at night. One mattress that has excellent motion isolation is the Amerisleep AS3.
Construction
The Zenhaven mattress is 10 inches tall and is comprised of four organic and durable latex layers. The entire mattress is encased in a organic cotton cover that’s been quilted with GOTS certified New Zealand wool. This material adds extra breathability and acts as a natural fire barrier.
Moreover, the organic cotton cover is also coated with Guardin® antimicrobial treatment making the mattress resistant to mold, mildew, and dust mites.
Directly beneath the top cover is a layer of Luxury Plush Talalay latex. This sections provides zoned support so you’ll feel more support for your lower back and hips and more cushioning for your shoulders. And like all the latex layers in the Zenhaven, this layer is hypoallergenic which makes the mattress a suitable option for allergy sufferers.
Next up are two thick layers of natural Talalay latex which are compressed together to form the bed’s dense support core. The top support layer is slightly softer while the bottom layer is slightly firmer. Altogether, both core layers provide plenty of bounce as well as lots of airflow through the mattress.
Finishing the bed’s construction is a bottom layer that’s made of firmer and more supportive latex foam. This section acts as the Gentle Firm comfort layer and it promotes neutral spinal alignment for most individuals, especially back and stomach sleepers.
Sizes
The Zenhaven comes in 7 sizes including a Split King. This mattress is compatible with most foundations and bed frames including adjustable bases.
- Twin
- Twin XL
- Full
- Queen
- King
- Split King
- California King
Durability
The Zenhaven comes with a lengthy 365-night sleep trial so you have more than enough time to decide if it’s right for you. It’s also backed by a whopping lifetime warranty that covers workmanship and materials defects. Saatva offers free shipping for the Zenhaven and free white glove delivery within the contiguous United States.

The next model in our list is the softest mattress in the Amerisleep line and one of the best luxury mattresses on the market: the Amerisleep AS5. It’s also the brand’s thickest mattress at 14 inches tall and it contains a plush memory foam comfort layer to provide soothing pressure relief. The AS5 is an ideal mattress for side sleepers of all body types and some back sleepers.
Made with unique proprietary materials, the AS5 offers fantastic comfort, good temperature regulation, and even some recovery benefits. If you’re searching for a high-quality all-foam luxury mattress, the AS5 could be a great fit for you.
Who should buy the Amerisleep AS5?
- Couples
- Side sleepers
- Light to average weight back sleepers
- Some combination sleepers
- Those who prefer a soft luxury mattress
- Those who prefer an all-foam bed
Firmness
The Amerisleep AS5 has a classic memory foam feel and it closely conforms to the shape of your body. But despite its soft contouring, it is quite responsive for a memory foam mattress so you won’t feel stuck in its layers. This is due to the addition of a proprietary Active Flex layer which has a quicker response to pressure than the memory foam layer above it.
After trying it out, our team gave the AS5 a 5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firm is 6.5 out of 10 and the AS5 is quite a bit softer than average. This firmness level is ideal for side sleepers who need a softer surface to relieve pressure from their hips and shoulders.
We would also recommend the AS5 for some back sleepers who want a mattress that cradles their body. Some combination sleepers who prefer softer mattresses will also enjoy sleeping on this mattress. Still, if you’re a heavier back sleeper you should consider getting a mattress that’s a bit firmer to maintain proper spinal alignment.
Unfortunately, the AS5 is not a good fit for strict stomach sleepers. Its top layer is too soft to support these sleepers’ hips which could lead to lower back pain and stiffness over time. If you want an all-foam bed that’s firm and supportive, try checking out the Amerisleep AS1 and AS2.
Lastly, this mattress is great at isolating motion on one side of the mattress. This is especially important for those of you who sleep with a partner (or pet). You won’t feel disturbed by your partner’s movements and you’ll get peaceful, uninterrupted sleep.
Construction
The AS5 is 14 inches tall and is available in an all-foam and hybrid version. It consists of four layers and it’s the softest model in the Amerisleep mattress lineup. All the foams used in the AS5 are CertiPUR-US certified for low VOC levels and no toxic chemicals.
It’s encased in the same cover that the other Amerisleep mattresses use. This cover is made of a soft blend of polyester, Celliant, and spandex. It has sort of an elastic feel as it snaps back into place quickly and it’s pretty soft to the touch. One great perk provided by this cover is that Celliant is shown to have recovery benefits which means you’ll wake up feeling refreshed and revitalized.
Beneath the cover is a thick comfort layer that’s made of proprietary Bio-Pur memory foam which offers excellent pressure relief. This material differs from traditional memory foam because it has an open-cell structure that promotes airflow in the mattress. It does however provide the same conforming hug feel and it has a slow response to pressure.
Below the comfort layer is an Active Flex section that’s unique to AS5 and is not included in the other Amerisleep models. This material is similar in firmness to the top comfort layer but it has a quicker response to pressure. This layer allows sleepers to receive deeper pressure relief without the stuck-in-the-mud feel of traditional memory foam.
Next up is the proprietary HIVE transition layer that’s made of convoluted polyfoam. This layer provides zoned support for different parts of your body, and its egg crate design promotes additional airflow to keep the mattress temperature-neutral. The HIVE layer is firmer than the foam layers above it and it eases your body onto the bed’s support layer.
Finally, the foundation of the mattress is made up of a thick layer of high-density polyfoam. This section acts as a stable base for the layers above it and it provides firm support for the mattress. Moreover, this layer also gives the AS5 its overall shape and structure.
The AS5 has decent edge support for an all-foam bed. Although the edges do compress under your weight, you won’t feel like you’re about to fall off when you’re lying or sitting near the perimeter of the mattress.
And since it’s an all-foam mattress, we did notice some off-gassing when we unboxed the AS5. This is easily remedied by letting the mattress air out in a well-ventilated room for 24-48 hours.
Sizes
The Amerisleep AS5 comes in 7 total sizes and is compatible with most foundations and bed frames including adjustable bed bases.
- Twin
- Twin XL
- Full
- Queen
- King

- Split King
Durability
Amerisleep offers a 100-night sleep trial for the AS5 in which a 30-day break-in period is required before you can initiate a return or refund. Additionally, the AS5 is also backed by a 20-year warranty that covers manufacturing defects. The company offers free shipping anywhere in the contiguous United States, whereas orders from Alaska and Hawaii require additional fees.

#5. Puffy Lux
Check Current Price | Best Hybrid Mattress | Review
Pros:
- Ideal for side sleepers
- Suitable for back sleepers
- Suitable for combination sleepers
- Low motion transfer
- Responsive
- Cooling
Cons:
- Below average edge support
- Not suitable for individuals over 250 lbs.
- Not suitable for strict stomach sleepers
Last but not least in our most luxurious mattress list is the cloud-like Puffy Lux mattress. Previously available in both an all-foam and hybrid version, Puffy has recently discontinued the all-foam model of the Puffy Lux. Now solely available as a premium hybrid mattress, the Puffy Lux offers a wonderful blend of plush comfort and responsive support.
In addition to several unique foam layers, this mattress features pocketed coils that are individually wrapped to lessen motion transfer. If you’re looking for a hybrid mattress that has a soft foam feel, the Puffy Lux might be the right mattress for you.
Who should buy the Puffy Lux?
- Couples
- Side sleepers
- Combination sleepers
- Some back sleepers
- Hot sleepers
- Those who prefer a softer mattress
- Those who prefer a luxury hybrid mattress
Firmness
Although it contains pocketed coils, the Puffy Lux feels a bit softer than average at 5.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. It’s medium to medium-soft in firmness and it offers plush contouring and deep pressure relief. Nevertheless, it’s pretty easy to move around the mattress even though its soft foam layers offer quite a bit of sinkage.
The Puffy Lux is best suited for side sleepers who need pressure relief for their hips and shoulders. Its foam layers contour to the shape of your body and offers soft cushioning for your joints. We would also recommend this mattress for combo sleepers who tend to switch sleeping positions at night.
This mattress is also a good fit for back sleepers who prefer a softer and more contouring sleep surface. Bear in mind though that heavier back sleepers might not get adequate lumbar support for maintaining spinal alignment. The same can be said for strict stomach sleepers who require a mattress that keeps their hips from sinking too far into the mattress.
If you tend to overheat at night, the Puffy Lux has several cooling features on top of pocketed coils which all work together to promote airflow and keep you sleeping dry and fresh. The mattress also has low motion transfer which makes it a great choice for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by their partner’s movements.
I should mention that the Puffy Lux has below-average edge support. If you like sleeping or sitting near the perimeter of the bed, the foam layers of the mattress will collapse under your weight. We suggest that you opt for firmer mattresses with reinforced edge support.
Construction
The Puffy Lux is a hybrid mattress that’s 12 inches tall and is comprised of five total layers. All the foams used in its construction are CertiPUR-US certified and are made without ozone depleters and heavy metals. The mattress is encased in a stain-resistant cover that’s breathable and luxuriously soft to the touch.
Below the cover you’ll find two proprietary foam comfort layers. The first one is made of gel-infused Cooling Cloud foam which dissipates heat and conforms to the shape of your body. And the second comfort layer is made of Dual Cloud Foam which offers deep pressure relief while adding a bit of responsiveness to the mattress.
Next up is a transition layer that’s made of Climate Comfort Foam which wicks away moisture to keep the mattress dry and fresh. This section also acts as a buffer between your body and the coil system below it.
Beneath that the mattress has a support layer that consists of Contour-Adapt coils. These coils are individually wrapped to aid in motion isolation and the entire coil section is surrounded by Puffy’s Firm Core Support Foam. All in all, this layer provides stability and durable support for the mattress.
At the very bottom of the mattress is a grip base layer that’s made of high-density foam. This layer acts as the foundation for the pocketed coils and all the foam layers above it.
We noticed some off-gassing when we unboxed this mattress but the new chemical smell faded within 24 hours.
Sizes
The Puffy Lux comes in 6 sizes and is compatible with most bed frames and foundations including a platform bed base.
- Twin
- Twin XL
- Full
- Queen
- King
- California King
Durability
The Puffy Lux comes with a 101-night sleep trial within which you can return it for a full refund if it doesn’t fit your needs. Puffy also offers a lifetime warranty on all their mattresses. The Puffy Lux ships free within the contiguous United States.

Beginner’s guide to luxury mattresses
The main thing that sets a luxury mattress apart from a regular mattress is its price. This is due to the fact that luxury mattresses usually outperform average mattresses on several areas. I’ll be giving a few examples below:
- Durability – A luxury mattress is typically made with high-end materials and precise workmanship. This results in the mattress having a much longer lifespan than cheaper mattresses that are made with inferior materials.
- Customizability – It’s quite common for luxury mattresses to have multiple firmness options or even adjustable firmness levels. Or it could be something a bit simpler like being flippable or having a modular design for easy customization.
- White Glove Delivery – Many luxury mattress companies offer complimentary white glove delivery for their products. This means that the people who deliver your mattress will also set it up in your bedroom and remove your old mattress for you.
- Environmental Stewardship – Luxury mattress brands are known for using materials that are organic or at least safe for your health and the environment. They also tend to have multiple third-party certifications to back up their mattresses.
