Pros and cons

ProsCons
Great for guest bedrooms and children's roomsNot suitable for heavier individuals
True memory foam feelMattress cover might be too thin
Pressure relieving

Some memory foam mattress brands like Tempurpedic can go for thousands of dollars but thankfully, mattress brands like Mainstays Mattress can offer a true memory foam feel that is far less expensive.

Memory foam mattresses are designed for those who like the feel of being cuddled by the bed and are almost always recommended by doctors for those who suffer from chronic pain such as fibromyalgia.

Who should buy the Mainstays Memory Foam mattress?

  • Budget shoppers
  • Those who love a true memory foam feel
  • All sleeper types
  • Couples with similar weight and sleeping styles
  • Students
  • People transitioning between homes

Firmness

The Mainstays Memory Foam mattress sits on a 5 to 5.5 on the mattress firmness scale, making it a true medium feel. This firmness level is great for all sleeper types, whether you’re a back sleeper, stomach sleeper or side/combination. However, sleepers who weigh over 250 lbs. would do better with either a hybrid or innerspring mattress like the Layla Hybrid as all-foam mattresses may not give them the extra support that they would need.

Bear in mind that firmness levels of a bed can be quite subjective. The heavier the individual, the softer a mattress may feel and those who are more petite may find a medium feel to be more of a medium-firm. At 62 kg, I felt the Mainstays Memory Foam mattress to be just a touch firmer than a medium.

As for motion transfer, memory foam mattresses tend to do well in deadening motion and we found the Mainstays Memory foam mattress to be fair in terms of motion isolation, especially if you share a bed with someone who tends to toss and turn throughout the night. Couples with similar weight can sleep comfortably on the Mainstays mattress.

Construction

The Mainstays Memory Foam mattress has a basic, simple construction. Instead of layers usually found in foam mattresses, the Mainstays mattress is made up of one big slab of memory foam. We found it to offer good pressure relief although we also found the mattress to retain a bit of body heat. If you’re an extremely hot sleeper you might want to look into getting a more temperature regulating mattress like Sweetnight mattresses.

The main difference in the Mainstays Memory Foam mattress is that it comes in different thicknesses. This plays a large part in terms of edge support and all-over support. The thicker versions offer better edge support than the thinnest version, which is 6 inches. So if you are someone who likes to sleep on the edge, it is best to keep this in mind.

The mattress comes encased in a soft, breathable polyester cover that is unfortunately non-removable and non-washable so should any accidents happen, it would be advisable to spot clean immediately.

We did experience off-gassing for the first few days but this dissipated within a week. Off-gassing is fairly common among all-foam mattresses and should not really be a cause for worry.

Sizes

The Mainstays Memory Foam mattress comes in 4 sizes and 4 different thicknesses (6″, 8″, 10″, 12″). It is compatible with most bed frames, foundations and bed bases, including an adjustable bed base.

  • Full

Warranty

Walmart does not really offer a sleep trial but every Mainstays mattress gets a 90 day free return policy. Mainstays mattresses also come backed by a 1 year warranty and come rolled.

It currently features a 4.1 out of 5 star review based on 191 verified reviews.

Mainstays Innerspring Coil mattress

Pros and cons

ProsCons
Suitable for kidsNot suitable for strict side sleepers
Great for back and stomach sleepersCover is non-washable
Good for those with small spaces

Made specifically for kids, the Mainstays Innerspring coil mattress is meant to be a transition bed for children aged 8 and up. Growing bones need both extra support and extra comfort – both of which an innerspring mattress can offer.

Suitable for bunk beds, trundle beds and dorm rooms, the Mainstays Innerspring coil mattress is also good for those with limited spaces.

Who should buy the Mainstays Innerspring Coil mattress?

  • Those with kids
  • Those with limited space
  • Back and stomach sleepers

Firmness

The Mainstays Innerspring Coil mattress sits at a 6-7 on the mattress firmness scale. This is makes is a medium firm mattress, which is suitable for back and stomach sleepers, as well as some combination sleepers. Strict side sleepers though might want to look for a softer mattress such as the Amerisleep AS4.

We also do not recommend this mattress for extremely heavy individuals, especially one as thin as this, it would not be able to provide them ample support.

Since this is a mattress that is marketed for kids as well as that it only comes in twin sizes, the Mainstays Innerspring Coil mattress would not be the best mattress for those who share a bed.

Construction

Built like the more traditional innersprings, the Mainstays Innerspring Coil mattress features a durable innerspring design with a cushioned top. Unlike hybrid mattresses that contain both layers of foam and a coil unit, innersprings tend to use thicker coils.

This provides more responsive support while the cushioned top provides enough comfort. For little sleepers, this is quite comfortable but adults would certainly need a more adult-friendly bed. If you do try to sleep on the Mainstays Innerspring Coil mattress though, you just might wake up in the morning a little sore and disappointed.

Springs are also great for your little ones who tend to sleep hot as they allow air to flow through freely. This also helps keep the mattress stay cool, dry and fresh.

Like with all of Mainstays’ other mattresses, the Innerspring Coil mattress comes encased in a white, polyester cover that is soft and breathable.

We did not experience any off-gassing with this mattress although it did take a little while to fully expand.

Sizes

The Mainstays Innerspring Coil mattress only comes in two sizes and measures 6″ in thickness. It is compatible with both box springs and bed frames. It is, however, not compatible with an adjustable bed.

  • Twin
  • Twin XL

Warranty

The Mainstays Innerspring Coil mattress does not come with either a sleep trial or a warranty but Walmart does provide a risk-free 90 day return policy.

It currently features a 4.1 out of 5 star review based on 202 verified reviews.

Pros and cons

ProsCons
Greenguard Gold certifiedNot suitable for heavier individuals
Suitable for all sleeper typesCover is non-removable
Comes in different colors

For those with daybeds or those who constantly receive a constant influx of overnight guests, futon mattresses are a must-have. Unlike the more traditional Japanese futons, western-style futons are slightly thicker and can be used on futon frames, daybeds or trundle beds.

The Mainstays Tufted Futon mattress is also perfect for those who are into a more eco-conscious product as it features a UL Greenguard Gold certification.

Who should buy the Mainstays Tufted Futon mattress

  • Those with daybeds or futon frames
  • Those who constantly receive overnight guests
  • All sleeper types

Firmness

The Mainstays Tufted Futon sits on a 5-5.5 on the mattress firmness scale, making it a medium. This is good for all sleeper types, including side sleepers.

While futons are not necessarily your daily driver, it does not mean that it can be too comfortable for those who weigh over 250 lbs. It also may not be able to fit 2 heavyset people well, although it could fit 2 average weight individuals comfortably.

We found the Mainstays Tufted Futon to offer good motion isolation, mainly due to the fact that it is not that thick of a mattress. Edge support though is only fair.

Construction

Featuring 100% thermobonded high density polyester filling, the Mainstays Tufted Futon provides comfort and enough support for either daytime snoozes or a couple of nights’ sleep.

The tufted polyester cover comes in a variety of different colors such as black, gray and red to match the aesthetics of your home. The tufted design also helps the futon retain its shape. The cover is non-removable and non-washable.

The Mainstays Tufted Futon can be folded easily into a sitting position which works well if you have a daybed. We also found it easy to unroll and unpack.

Because of its Greenguard Gold certification – which ensures the product is low in VOCs or chemical emissions – the Mainstays Tufted Futon gave off zero off-gassing.

Sizes

The Mainstays Tufted Futon comes in only 1 size and is only compatible with futon frames or daybeds. It measures 6″ in thickness.

  • Full (foldable)

Warranty

Walmart does not offer a sleep trial for their Mainstays mattresses but they do provide a 90 day risk-free return policy. The Tufted Futon comes with a 1-year warranty.

It currently features a 3.6 out of 5 star review based on 1081 verified reviews.
