Chilisleep offers products such as sleep pads and blankets, all of which contain tubing for water circulation. The sleep pads and blankets are attached to one of their systems (Chilipad or Ooler) which warm or cool down the water. Finally, this water will keep you warm or cool while you sleep.

Chilisleep products are high-quality, innovative, and follow the modern trends in sleep-related technology. Consumer reports ranks Chili Ooler as No. 1 Best Mattress Cooling Pad while the Chilipad took second place.

Chilipad Sleep System

The Chilipad system consists of a cube (a box that regulates water temperature) and a sleeping pad called Chili Cool Mesh™ Pad. The mesh pad has many tubes through which cool water runs and carries away your body temperature.

Chilipad doesn’t only cool you down, it can also make your bed warmer. You can choose a temperature between 55-115°F (13-46°C), so this product will match your needs if you’re a hot or a cold sleeper.

The Chilipad system comes with a remote – you can control the unit from 20 feet away. The remote communication is EMF-free, which means you shouldn’t worry about the electromagnetic radiation coming from the remote control.

The Mesh Pads are designed to cover one half of the bed. If you want to include your partner, you should get the “we” option which comes with two units and two pads. Unfortunately, you don’t get a discount if you buy two. The good side is that each sleeper is able to choose the preferred temperature.

Ooler Sleep System

The Ooler system is a box similar to the Chilipad system, just upgraded. You can attach it to the same Chili Cool Mesh Pad that’s used for the Chilipad.

The Ooler has several features superior to the Chilipad and, in my opinion, they justify the price difference. For example, the Ooler can auto-clean itself with the UV light which makes maintenance a lot easier. The machine also has variable noise control. Not that the Chilipad is noisy, it’s just that the Ooler performs quieter.

A simple, yet most effective change comes in the form of the Ooler app. It allows you to program your sleep schedule for every day and instead of an alarm clock, Ooler can make your bed gradually warmer until you wake up. You can also set the machine up to automatically adjust to your preferred temperature before bedtime, so every night when you get in bed, it will already be as cool or as warm as you want it to be.

The Ooler system offers the same temperature range as the Chilipad – 55-115°F (13-46°C). It also covers only one half of the bed so you have to buy two units and two pads if you have a partner.

ChiliBlanket

Chili blanket is probably the best cooling weighted blanket in the market. I’m saying so because other cooling blankets are simply made of a cooling/breathable material. This is not enough when it comes to a weighted blanket, because when a cover presses against your entire body, it’s bound to increase your temperature. Chili blanket actively cools you down with circulating cold water.

Chili blanket weighs 20lbs (9kg) and it is made to be used with the Chilipad or Ooler system. You can also use it separately – as a normal weighted blanket. On top of that, this blanket is also fantastic in the winter months (especially if you live in a cold area) because you can also set the system to warm you up.

Chili blanket is filled with glass beads and it comes in a machine-washable fleece duvet cover. The fleece is made of a polyester blend material, which is not my favorite thing about this blanket.

The size of this blanket is 81” L x 45” W (206cm L x 114cm W). As a weighted blanket, it’s supposed to be smaller than regular blankets and it should cover only your body, not the whole bed.

My biggest problem with the Chili blanket is the high price. For an average sleeper, this would be a luxury item, but for someone with severe sleep issues, it could be a literal lifesaver.

How Do You Wash Chilipad?

To clean the Chilipad, follow these steps:

  • Drain all the water out of the system and the excess water from the pad. Use the tool which came with your system.
  • Secure the extension tail with a rubber band. If you don’t do so, the tail and the connector may get damaged in the spinning process.
  • Make sure you’re using a front-loading washing machine. The top-loading ones bear a high risk of damaging the pad and the tubes.
  • Wash the Chilipad on the gentle cycle in cold water.
  • You can dry the pad in a dryer with no heat or let it air dry.

In addition to this, inspect all of the connection tubes frequently and make sure they are all connected properly.

How To Clean The Chilipad System?

You need the Chilipad Cleaning Solution to clean the inside of the system. This is how you should use it:

  • Empty the Cube and drain the pad from the old water.
  • Fill it with new distilled water.
  • Pour the Chilipad Cleaning Solution and connect the Cube to the pad.
  • Set it on “HI” and let it run for one hour.
  • Drain the water with the solution.
  • Refill with distilled water.
  • Run the system as usual.

The Chilipad Cleaning Solution contains mild antibacterial ingredients which clean the system and tubes without causing any damage. It’s probably not a good idea to use your own methods or solutions to clean the system and it could void the warranty.

You should clean the system every 1-3 months, depending on how much you’re using it.

How Much Water Does Chilipad Need?

The Cube needs only 13oz (390ml) of water to keep you cool. The amount of water is the same regardless of the pad size you order. If there are two sleepers, you need to order two systems with a Cube for each person.

Fill your Chilipad with distilled water.

What To Do If Chilipad Isn’t Getting Cold?

First, make sure you’ve allowed at least 30 minutes for the system to run – that’s how long Chilipad takes to feel cool.

If it’s been over 45 minutes and the temperature is still the same, check whether the Cube is working properly. In case the system is running normally, there may be a bad connection or blockage. Disconnect the tubing from the Cube and check the O-rings. Make sure that none are missing. Then turn the Cube on the side with the connector pointing upwards and push the pad connector in. You should get a solid connection.

If the unit (Cube) isn’t working at all, contact the company and ask them for help.
