Drake is known for his affinity for luxury, which was on full display in a recent Architectural Digest cover story. The superstar rapper gave fans an inside look in his new 50,000 square foot Toronto mansion. The bed and bed base combined weigh one ton and were created by interior designer Ferris Rafauli’s new line for Hastens called Grand Vividus. The headboard is accented with an antique mirror and channel-tufted leather and features a whiskey-and-champagne bar on the reverse side. How much did Drake spend on the Rafauli x Hastens Grand Vividus mattress? A cool $395,000.
His bedroom set is rounded out with nightstands featuring mother-of-pearl inlays and bedding that incorporates an Alexander McQueen hummingbird tapestry from The Rug Company. The master bedroom suite encompasses 3,200 square feet with an additional 1,100 feet of covered terraces.
About Drake’s $400k Hastens bed
Grand Vividus is a $395,000 bed made by Hastens – a fifth-generation, family-owned company based in Sweden that has more than 350 locations worldwide. The company is dominating the ultra-high-end celebrity bedding market with their premium beds that cost at least $15,000 each.
In a world where you can get a solid premium brand like Puffy, Casper, or DreamCloud for around $1k each or spend a little bit more to get an Amerisleep AS5 or St. Regis Hotel Bed; you might wonder why Hastens beds can cost more than a middle-class person’s house. Linus Adolfsson, owner of Hastens Los Angeles, claims that each mattress is designed to last 50-100 years (in contrast to the 10-20 years that standard premium mattresses last). Each bed is made out of natural horse hair, wool, cotton, and flax. Hastens mattresses also feature higher springs and have a larger number of coils for extra support.
“So, how many springs, how many turns, and the last thing is layers of horse hair,” Adolfsson said when asked what makes the mattresses so expensive. “The more horse hair allows for the bed to conform more, and allows for the bed to breathe more. That is the general things. If we look at the beds from $10,000 and up to $390,000, it’s a very big difference in the amount of materials in the beds.”
Hagens also offers a unique perk: the company will send a team to your house to flip and massage your mattress three-to-five times per year at no cost to you.
The Grand Vividus that Drake bought was designed by Ferris Rafauli, the same interior/architectural designer who is the creative mastermind behind the superstar’s home.
“So the relationship was actually with his designer, with an amazing designer Ferris Rafauli. He was the one who has been using Hastens beds for all of his projects the last 10 plus years. He is known for all his luxury design. He was the one who, together with Hastens, created this specific masterpiece called the Grand Vividus.”
The Grand Vividus mattress weighs half-a-ton and took 600 hours to make. It uses the same premium materials that are found in all Hastens mattresses, but what really sets it apart is the unique design. According to Adolfsson, the bed was decorated with Hastens origins as an 18th-century saddle maker in mind. The leather details in the straps and the gold hardware “kind of resembles the bits for what you have in the horse’s mouth.”
“This is the first time when a mattress truly became a design object,” he said. “What design means is functional art. So, seeing a mattress with just the most beautiful designed objects in the world, to truly be a masterpiece, is going to make this launch so crazy and so interesting … I believe that your mattress, which you share only with yourself, and you absolutely love, people you love the most in your life. To make that piece of furniture into something so beautiful change the whole perception of the bedroom.”

The Grand Vividus officially goes on sale this week. There is currently a waiting list for the $400k beds, with 10 currently on reserve in Hastens Los Angeles and Hastens Madison Avenue.
