A brand name surely raises the price of a product. After all, they invest a lot in all the ads and research. The best brands have their own proprietary materials, labs, and development teams based here in the US.
All this at a time when anyone can make a deal with a cheap Chinese manufacturer and paste their logo onto a no-name product. Production costs much less when you outsource it to a cheap labor country, and then they come back to compete with American-made mattresses.
That’s why good brands have to cost more.
Brands also play an important role in the mind of a shopper. Long-standing brands that are familiar to everyone, such as Tempur-Pedic, carry a certain amount of security and trust that a product is high-quality and that the purchase won’t be disappointing.

Not every all-foam bed is the same. If you buy one that’s just a giant slab of foam, it’s cheaper than one that has several foam layers of different densities. There are comfort layers, transitional layers, foundation layers, etc. A good memory foam mattress usually has several foam layers.

Single adults
If you’re single and living alone, you should be fine with a Twin mattress size. It can save some space in your bedroom and some cash for the mattress and accessories. After all, this mattress size is also sometimes called a “single mattress”.
It may not be large enough if you sleep with a pet, and if the pet is a large dog — forget about it! A Twin XL could provide just enough space because your pet will have a bit more room to curl near your legs, but even then it might not work out.

So, you could say that an average mattress is around $1,000, but that’s a very rough estimate considering all the factors. On top of that, a big question is how much people are willing to pay for a mattress, so although there could be expensive models that drive this price up, most people might be only willing to spend about $500, for example.

How much you should pay for a mattress is a mix of what you need and what you can afford while remaining within a reasonable price.
As for the Twin mattress, we’d recommend going for one that’s under $900, but not paying less than $250. Within this range, find one that is made of materials that work for you and has a firmness level that you’re comfortable with.
Finally, you should pay more for the specifics that you really need. If you have joint pain and you specifically need a mattress with excellent pressure relief, you should save up and pay for that.

Not really. I mean, yes, if you’re really poor. A Twin XL is very narrow and is meant for one person. Don’t let the name confuse you. The XL stands for extra length. This mattress is 5″ longer than a Twin, so its dimensions are 38″ x 80″. If you really really have to, you could squeeze two petite and slim people on any of the two Twin mattress sizes (provided they are spooning), but they won’t be able to sleep comfortably all night long. Speaking from experience.
If you’re taller than an average person, it’s totally worth it. There’s nothing more annoying for a tall guy than not being able to stretch out in a bed because his pillow and/or feet would start hanging from the edge of the bed. One thing to note is that, since it’s longer, an XL wouldn’t fit into a frame of a Twin mattress.
The most similar one is the Twin XL. Then there’s the Full size, which is wider, but not as long (54″ x 74″). King and California King are even larger.
Kind of. They make a bed that’s as wide as a King, but not as long. If you put two Twin XLs together, you’d get them to match the King size. However, it would count as a Split King, which means that the entire mattress is divided into two equally large parts. So, if you put two Twins together, you can get something that looks like a King but is not really a King size.
