- Those who prefer a hybrid mattress
- Those looking for a taller mattress
Firmness
This Elm mattress comes in two firmness levels: Luxury Plush (5), and Luxury Firm (7). It has a contouring memory foam feel but it’s responsive enough and fairly easy to move around on. If you tend to switch sleeping positions at night, you’ll do just fine on this mattress.
We recommend this mattress for all sleeper types regardless of body weight. Its high profile and supportive layers make it an excellent option for individuals who weigh over 300 lbs.
Choose the Luxury Plush version if you’re a strict side sleeper. It provides the most cushioning and pressure relief for your shoulders and hips.
Choose the Luxury Firm version if you’re a back and stomach sleeper. This model offers durable support which is crucial for keeping your spine and hips in a neutral alignment.
If you’re looking for a hybrid mattress that offers more firmness options, check out the Winkbeds mattress.
If you sleep with a partner, the two main things to consider are motion isolation and edge support. The Elm Sleep 15″ Hybrid got exceptional scores in both areas and is a great option for couples.
Construction
As its name suggests, the Elm Sleep Resort Hybrid is 15 inches tall and the mattress is made in the USA. It’s comprised of five total layers which include high-density memory foam and pocketed coils. All the foams used in this mattress are CertiPUR-US certified free of toxic chemicals and heavy metals.
The mattress is encased in the brand’s Luxurious 360 Stretch Knit Cover that’s breathable and soft to the touch. This cover is also quilted with a thin layer of plush foam which provides initial pressure relief when you lie down on the mattress.
Below that is the main comfort layer of the mattress which is made up of high-density gel-infused memory foam. This layer provides contouring and pressure relief while keeping the mattress temperature-neutral.
Next up, is a transition layer that’s made up of high-density polyfoam. This section is firmer and it evenly distributes body weight to aid in back pain and lumbar support.
Beneath that is the bed’s support core which is comprised of individually wrapped coils to better absorb motion transfer. These coils provide durable support and are also reinforced around the edges of the mattress.
Lastly, the mattress has a high-density polyfoam base layer which acts as a stable foundation for the coil system and the foam layers above it.
One thing we didn’t like about this mattress is that it released a new mattress smell that lasted for two days. To get rid of the chemical smell, we aired the mattress out in a well-ventilated room for 48 hours.
If there are any eco-conscious readers out there, you should know that Elm Sleep plants five trees for every mattress purchased online. If you’re looking for a mattress online and you also want to help the environment, you can kill two birds with one stone by getting this mattress.

Who should buy the Elm Original 13″ Hybrid?
- Couples
- All sleeper types
- Those who prefer innerspring mattresses
- Those looking for an affordable hybrid mattress
Firmness
The Elm Original 13″ comes in two firmness levels: Luxury Plush (5), and Luxury Firm (7) on the mattress firmness scale. This mattress also has a contouring memory foam feel without giving you that stuck-in-the-mud feeling. Since it has a slightly lower profile than the previous Elm mattress, we would not recommend it for individuals in the 300 lb.-400 lb. range.
This mattress is suitable for all sleeper types: back, side, stomach, and combination. The Luxury Plush version is best for side sleepers to get ample pressure relief, while the Luxury Firm version is ideal for supporting stomach and back sleepers.
The Elm Original 13″ also had better than average performance in motion isolation. This makes it a great option if you sleep with a partner and you don’t want to be disturbed by their movements.
If you’re someone who likes to sleep near the edge of the bed, this mattress has good edge support.
So you’ve been liking this mattress so far but you live outside of the US, say Canada for example. A similar mattress you can get is the Simba 5000 Pro Flex mattress.
Construction
The Elm Original 13″ Hybrid is, you guessed it, 13 inches tall. It’s made in the USA and it’s also comprised of five total layers. All the foams used in its construction are CertiPUR-US certified free of harmful chemicals and heavy metals.
The mattress is encased in the same Luxurious 360 Stretch Knit cover which is breathable and quite soft to the touch. It’s also quilted with soft comfort foam to provide body contouring as soon as you lie down on the mattress.
Beneath that is the main comfort layer which is made of gel-infused memory foam. This layer provides deeper pressure relief and it does not trap body heat like traditional memory foam.
Next up, is a layer of high-density transition foam which acts as a buffer between your body and the coil system below it.
Then comes the support layer of the mattress which consists of pocketed coils for sturdy support and responsiveness. The perimeter coils are reinforced for better edge support.
Finally, the bed’s base layer is made of high-density polyfoam. This section supports the coil system as well as the foam layers above it.
