#1. Saatva Lineal Adjustable Bed Base

Pros
- Soft, warm lighting
- Free white glove delivery
- Massage modes
Cons
- Can be too pricey for some
- Will not work with traditional innerspring mattresses
Our experience with the Saatva Lineal Adjustable bed base
Saatva tops a lot of ‘best of’ lists and for good reason – as a brand, Saatva has risen through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after brands of premier mattresses today. And their Lineal Adjustable bed base is our Editor’s choice for that reason and more.
Underbed lighting does not seem like a very important feature when it comes to smartbeds but it in fact serves a good purpose.
The light mode in the Saatva Lineal Adjustable base is a soft, warm light that not only adds a sophisticated style to your bedroom vibe but studies have shown that warm colored lighting and warm colored led lights help keep you feel relaxed and ready for bed.
Controlled by a one-touch remote that allows to save your preferred settings, the Lineal Adjustable base offers a weightless zero gravity support as well as modes for head, foot and full body massage. Of course, it also offers different positions for when you need it – such as a higher, more elevated head or feet or even both.
Another thing we liked most about the Saatva Lineal Adjustable base is that it features a wall-hugging design that allows the space between your bed frame and wall stay the same even as you shift the bed base’s position. Everything is within reach and there’s no danger of your bed hitting the wall or your bedside table.
The Saatva Lineal Adjustable bed base is also one of the quietest smartbed bases we have ever tried. You can barely hear anything as you go through different modes, although you might hear a slightly stronger humming sound when you go through the massage settings. This makes it an ideal adjustable bed base for those who are very sensitive to even the smallest of sounds.
The legs of the Lineal bed base are also adjustable and go up in half-inch increments for bed height options of 13″ to 18″. Bear in mind though that the final height of your bed also depends on the height of your mattress.
The Saatva Lineal Adjustable bed base is compatible with all adjustable mattresses and not just from the Saatva brand. No box spring needed.
It comes in a muted, neutral gray and off-white color that can go with any bedroom decor and is made with a combination of a solid metal frame as well as sturdy birch wood that is sourced in the USA.

#2. Natural Form Adjustable Bed+
Check Current Price | Best App-Controlled Bed Frame
Pros
- Wall-hugging design
- Apple and Android friendly
- Gentle-wake alarm
Cons
- Comes in only 4 sizes
- Can be a bit too pricey for some
Our experience with Natural Form adjustable bed+
Made with a solid steel framework, the Natural Form Adjustable Bed+ is an upholstered platform bed frame that will look very much at home in modern bedrooms. It’s controlled through an app via either your Apple or Android phone, you also do have the option to control it via remote control if you so prefer.
Featuring a head, foot and pillow articulation that comes with all adjustable bases, the Natural Form Adjustable bed also features a full body wave massage mode, a gentle-wake sleep timer as well as under bed lighting.
We found the lighting to add a soft, warm ambience to the room and it can be turned on and off via the app or the remote.
Large metal connecting brackets and a center support rail ensure maximum support (weight capacity is up to 850 lbs) even when your mattress is large and in charge. You also get an ample storage place underneath the bed thanks to its higher legs. Bear in mind though that the legs on the Natural Form Adjustable bed frame are not adjustable.
Similar to to the Saatva Lineal base that we have mentioned above, the Natural Form Adjustable base also features a wall-hugging design that’s also engineered by Leggett and Platt. While most adjustable bases lift you away from the wall and essentially away from your nightstand as it lifts, wall-hugging bed bases lift you up while allowing you to simultaneously glide back. This means any essentials you might need on your nightstand will always be within reach – it doesn’t matter whether you have the bed base up or down.
We found the Natural Form Adjustable base to be a little noisy during the massage settings but we absolutely appreciated the gentle-wake alarm, especially since some of us are not fans of getting woken up by our phone alarms.
No box spring required with the Natural Form Adjustable Bed+ and assembly instructions come included with purchase. It is compatible with adjustable mattresses from any brand, not just Natural Form. We like pairing it with a memory foam mattress the most.
Sizes
- Twin XL
- Full
- Queen
- Split King
Warranty
Natural Form does not offer a sleep trial for their adjustable bed frames nor do they indicate a warranty period either. They do offer in-house delivery and setup within the continental United States.

#3. Nolah Adjustable Base with Wall Glide
Check Current Price | Best Voice-controlled Bed Frame
Pros
- Easy assembly
- Voice control
- Multiple built-in USB charging ports
Cons
- Motor can be a little loud during massage modes
- Under bed lighting can be too dim for some
Our experience with Nolah Adjustable base with Wall Glide
We’ve come a long way from just apps and remote controls – how about a bed you can control with your voice? The Nolah Adjustable base with Wall-Glide can be controlled via Alexa or Google Voice which makes switching between settings even more convenient – no more fumbling around for the remote control. If you do prefer something more tactile to control your Nolah adjustable bed, you still can through their app which you can download on your mobile phone.
The Nolah Adjustable base makes a good mattress foundation for adjustable mattresses from any brand, not only those from their own range of premium mattresses. No assembly tools required for the Nolah Adjustable base and it took us all of 14 minutes to set it up since it already comes pre-assembled – all you need to do is screw on the legs. Carrying the box into the room where you’ll be using it is another story though and it definitely is a 2 man job.
LED light powers the under bed lighting on the Nolah Adjustable base and LED strip lights can be found underneath the bed. This feature can also be turned on using voice control. We found the lights to be the dimmest out of all the adjustable bases with under bed lighting on our list which is either a plus or a minus, depending on your preferences.
As with most of the bases on this list, the Nolah Adjustable base also features a wall-hugging tech that allows you to have your nightstand within reach, even when you have your adjustable base elevated.
The Nolah Adjustable base features has middle support legs that offers extra stability and support for even the heftiest of mattresses.
There are 4 different massage engines in the Nolah base and you can choose between 3 different intensities. There is also a pre-programmed Zero gravity mode that lets you sleep in a weightless, almost floating position that helps with proper spinal alignment. Along with Zero gravity, there are also the flat position (for when you would like your bed flat) and anti-snore. You can also save any settings you would like so you don’t have to input it every time.
Now here’s something for those who like sleeping with their gadgets: the Nolah Adjustable base has multiple USB ports depending on its size (i.e. 4 for a Queen bed frame, 8 for a Split Cal King). This means you get to get to keep your gadgets charged at all times.
The Nolah Adjustable base comes shipped in one box.

Nolah does not offer a sleep trial for their adjustable bed frames but they do come backed by a 10 year warranty. Nolah also offers free shipping for their adjustable bases within the contiguous United States.

Our experience with Amerisleep Adjustable Bed frame
The only adjustable base that features a wooden slats system, the Amerisleep Adjustable bed frame features adjustable legs that go from 6″, 9″ and 12″, which is convenient should you need additional storage space.
Bed storage is one way of getting in extra storage, especially if you live in a small space. At its highest, the bed stands at 15″ thick which creates enough space underneath your bed should you want to add storage drawers.
Made with a solid steel frame and steel legs, Amerisleep’s Adjustable base can be paired with a bed frame made from solid wood. This changes the look quite a bit and you can even add an adjustable headboard if you wish. We found the sturdy construction to be able to withstand heavier loads from both the mattress and the sleeper’s weight.
Under bed LED lights, a rolling wave massage and head and feet articulation are some of the main features of the Amerisleep Adjustable bed frame. All these can be controlled through 3 mediums: Google Home, Alexa or the wireless remote control that the bed frame comes with.
Speaking of massages, I’d have to say that the Amerisleep Adjustable bed’s massage feature is by far my favorite among all beds mentioned on this list. And if you are looking for a fairly noise-free environment for your bedroom, it is one of the quietest as well.
The Amerisleep Adjustable base is covered with a non-skid fabric that helps your mattress from slipping off. It also has retainer bars on the foot of the frame which keeps the mattress in place no matter how often you adjust the head and foot sections.
The bed frame also comes with multiple USB ports should you need to charge your electronic devices while you sleep. It also features a wall-hugging design so even when the head section of your Amerisleep Adjustable base is at the highest it can go, your nightstand will still be within easy reach.
There’s not much assembly required to the Amerisleep Adjustable base – all you have to do is unpack, unfold and screw on the adjustable legs. It can be paired with any adjustable mattress from any brand but our favorite is to pair it with Amerisleep’s very own AS3.

#5. Layla Adjustable Bed Base+
Check Current Price | Best Zero Gravity Bed Frame
Pros
- Zero gravity
- One touch remote
- Easy assembly
Cons
- Can be very pricey for some
- Motor can be a little noisy
Our experience with Layla Adjustable Base
Layla mattresses are a favorite among many because of their ability to be of two different firmnesses within one bed. When paired with an adjustable base, you get to enjoy the full benefits of both an adjustable bed and a flippable mattress.
One such benefit is Zero gravity. Created by NASA (yep, that NASA) to help their astronauts sleep in proper alignment in environments where there’s no gravity (like in space), mattress brands like Layla have utilized the same technology in their adjustable beds to allow individuals to reap the same benefits. By far our favorite adjustable base for zero gravity has to be the Layla Adjustable Bed base Plus.
Zero gravity provides the sensation of being weightless, which in turn reduces compression in the spine and helps relax the muscles. It helps you sleep with the correct and proper spinal alignment.
Controlled via one-touch intuitive wireless remote, the Layla Adjustable base lets you choose between raising your head or feet (or both), go flat, go Zero-G and pre-program up to 3 preferred positions.
When it comes to the Split King size, you get two separate and fully articulating bases and two remote controls so you won’t have to argue with your partner about which setting you most prefer. If you want to be in sync however, you can do that too as Layla provides a sync cable when you choose the Split King size.
The Layla Adjustable base also comes with 4 USB charging ports so you can make sure that your electronic devices never run out of juice. It also comes with dual zone vibrating motors so when you’re in the mood for a massage, you can choose from either head, foot or full body massage. It also comes with an auto shut-off timer – so you choose just the right amount of time it would take for you to fully drift off to sleep.
The Layla Adjustable Bed base Plus also comes with an anti-snore setting, which also helps with sleep apnea.
The under bed lighting on the Layla Adjustable base is soft and warm and should you forget to turn it off, it won’t detract from getting a good night’s sleep. You can control the settings in the Layla Adjustable base via an app on your mobile phone, via the remote control, or through Alexa or Google Home. This gives you a wide range of convenience.
We found the Layla Adjustable base to be very easy to assemble – it took us 5 minutes. All you have to do is unpack and screw the legs on. It is compatible with all adjustable mattresses, even ones from different brands. It can also fit into your existing bed frame, be it a platform bed or a captains bed.
The base comes with metal retainers that helps your mattress stay in place, no matter the position.

- Twin XL
- Queen
- King
- Split King
Warranty
Layla does not offer a sleep trial for their adjustable bed bases but it does come with a standard 10 year warranty. Layla also offers free shipping although setup is entirely up to you.

Benefits of under-bed lighting
There are many benefits to under bed lighting. And though most people like to sleep in complete darkness, having the option to get a little light to guide your way can be a welcome addition to any bedroom.
Who should get under bed lighting
- Older people – As we get older, our eye sight begins to fail us. This is a fact of life. Older people often suffer from incontinence and getting up to go to the bathroom can be a chore (and can be dangerous) without a little bit of light to guide your way.
- New parents – New parents are often sleep deprived and need to get up hourly to feed their newborn babies. Under bed lighting can help new parents get safely out of bed, measure the right amount of formula and help them stay awake enough to be able to care for their infant (i.e changing diapers, anyone?).
- Those who can’t sleep without a nightlight – I don’t know about you but I am going to say this without shame – I cannot sleep without a nightlight. I need it soft and dim and warm but I need it. Total darkness gets my mind racing. If you’re like me then, under bed lighting can serve as some sort of adult nightlight.
- Children – No monsters will be under the bed if a light is shining. Enough said.
Style
Of course we cannot discount style and ambience.
Under bed lighting provides a look and feel to a bedroom that spells class and sophistication. Lighting, not only decor, adds sophisticated style to any room.
Safety
The number one reason why bed bases with under bed lighting is chosen is because of safety. Under bed lighting helps guide your way, whether to the bathroom or your child’s crib/bedroom, without the danger of you tripping, falling or worse, waking up a partner that’s sleeping soundly next to you.
DIY LED bed lighting: is it possible?
I’m a big fan of DIYs – not only can you save some money but the rewards are great if you do a good job.
You can definitely DIY your own under bed lighting. All you need are the following:
If you have a wooden slats system or base
- Led light strip or RGB light bars
- Wire hooks
- Metal screw
Screw wire hooks firmly into place in areas where you want to hang your led lights. Install lights as little or as much as you prefer. Plug and enjoy. A lot of LED light strips or light bars come with a corresponding remote control depending on brand. Check your local hardware store.
If you have a metal frame
- Led light strips or RGB light bar
- Glue guns with heavy glue
- Or plastic ties
Find the areas under your frame where you want to glue or tie your light strips on and you’re good to go.
FAQs
Buying a ready-made base with LED lights and placing it atop a floating bed is enough to make a floating bed with LED lights but if you want to DIY then please refer to the steps above.
You can definitely place LED lights on your headboard although some mattress brands already offer headboards with built-in LED lights.
You can either do it yourself or purchase a bed frame that already has LED lights installed.
Although it is recommended by sleep experts to sleep in a darkened room, sleeping with LED lights, should you really need it, will not be detrimental to your health as long as it is dim, soft and warm-colored.
Conclusion
Bed bases with under bed lighting may seem like a frivolous thing to have but once you have it, you realize it becomes an essential.
Adjustable bases with LED lights offer a whole host of benefits not only by lighting your way at night but also with helping you get the best sleep of your life, night after night.
