Who should buy the Saatva Classic?
- Heavyweight individuals
- All sleeper types
- Those who prefer an innerspring mattress
- Those looking for a responsive bed
Firmness
The Saatva Classic comes in three different firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. Although these versions have different firmness levels, they all have a responsive and bouncy feel because of the pocketed coils that comprise their support cores. Each version is suited for a particular sleeping style and body type.
The Plush Soft model is best for side sleepers. This is the softest version of the mattress and it provides pressure relief for your shoulders and hips.
The Luxury Firm version is ideal for back sleepers as well as combination sleepers. This version keeps your spine in a neutral alignment and it also offers some nice contouring for your lower back.
The Firm version is best for heavyweight individuals and strict stomach sleepers. Spine and hip alignment is very important for stomach sleepers. This version has little to no give which means your hips will stay on top of the mattress to maintain proper alignment.
If you sleep with a partner, the Saatva Classic is not the best mattress for you. The mattress contains pocket coils which transfer a lot of motion from one side of the bed to the other. Your sleep might be interrupted by your partner’s movements.
This mattress has great edge support though. This means that you can sleep near the end of the bed without feeling like you’re going to fall off to the floor.
Construction
The Saatva Classic is made in the USA, and it’s available in 11.5″ and 14.5″ heights. It’s encased in a breathable organic cotton cover that’s hypoallergenic and treated with proprietary Guardin® antimicrobial treatment. The cover is also quilted with a Euro pillow top that features Lumbar Zone® support.
Directly beneath the cover is a layer of CertiPUR-US certified high-density memory foam. This layer provides initial pressure relief and additional lower back support.
Next up, is a pocketed coil system that contains 884 Lumbar Zone® coils. This is the bed main’s main support layer. It adds bounce to the mattress and it also features extra lumbar support to keep your spine in a neutral alignment.
In addition, there are high-density foam rails all around the mattress for firmer and better edge support.
The base layer of the mattress is made of another coil unit that consists of tempered steel coils. This layer is a durable foundation which also promotes better airflow within the mattress.
Sizes
The Saatva Classic comes in 8 standard mattress sizes. It’s compatible with most foundations and bed frames, but adjustable beds only work with the 11.5-inch model.

Pros
- Suitable for all sleeper types
- Zoned support
- Cooling
- Responsive
- Low motion transfer
- Good edge support
Cons
- Above average price point
- Not for heavier stomach sleepers
- Slight off-gassing
The first Helix mattress on our list is the Midnight Luxe Mattress. It’s features a premium hybrid design and it’s the best overall mattress in the Helix lineup. This mattress provides everything that you need from support, pressure relief, and even cooling.
If you’re looking for a cooling hybrid mattress that offers a perfect mix of comfort and support, check out the Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress!
Who should buy the Helix Midnight Luxe?
- Couples
- All sleeper types
- Hot sleepers
- Fans of hybrid mattresses
- Those who prefer a tall mattress
Firmness
Our team gave the Midnight Luxe a 6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. It’s has a medium-firm feel which is basically the “sweet spot” between soft and firm. The Midnight Luxe is suitable for all sleeping positions: back, side, stomach, and combination.
However, we would not recommend the Midnight Luxe for heavyweight stomach sleepers. It’s not going to be firm and supportive enough to keep your hips from bowing into its foam layers.
On the other hand, we think couples will love sleeping on the Midnight Luxe mattress. Although it contains coils, it has several memory foam layers on top which will deaden motion and keep you sleeping undisturbed by your partner’s movements.
This mattress also has good edge support. You can lie down or sit near the edge of the bed and you’ll feel secure.
Construction
The Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress is 14 inches tall and is made in the USA. It’s a high-profile mattress that’s comprised of six total layers. All Helix mattresses have certifications from CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 for health and environmental safety.
The mattress is encased in a breathable Tencel cover which promotes airflow and aids in muscle recovery. If you’re a hot sleeper, Helix offers a proprietary GlacioTex cooling cover which draws heat away from your body. This cooling cover comes with an additional fee.
The cover is also quilted with a premium pillow top to give you initial cushioning and comfort.
Beneath the cover is a comfort layer which is made of copper-infused memory foam. This layer contours to your body and relieves pressure from sensitive areas. Its copper gel infusion dissipates body heat and wicks away moisture from the mattress surface.
Next up, is another layer of memory foam which offers more pressure relief and keeps your spine in a neutral alignment. Below this is a layer of high-grade polyfoam which acts as a buffer between your body and the supportive coil system underneath it.
The support core of the mattress is made up of over 1000 individually wrapped coils. These coils provide durable support and bounce to the mattress. They are firmer around the middle of the mattress for added lumbar support and softer around your head and legs.
Finally, the bed has a base layer which is made of DuraDense foam. This high-density foam layer supports the coil system and all the layers above it.
Does Helix have fiberglass? Thankfully, fiberglass isn’t something you have to worry about with this brand.
Sizes
The Helix Midnight Luxe comes in 6 sizes. It’s compatible with most foundations and bed frames but it won’t work well with adjustable bed bases.

#3. Saatva Latex Hybrid
Check Current Price | Best Eco-Friendly Mattress
Pros
- Ideal for back and stomach sleepers
- Great for back pain sufferers
- Zoned support
- Responsive
- Cooling
- Great edge support
Cons
- Too firm for strict side sleepers
- Moderate motion transfer
- High price point
We continue our Helix vs. Saatva list with the premium Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress. Made with natural Talalay latex and supportive coils, it’s one of the best eco-friendly mattresses on the market. It provides zoned support and it’s an ideal mattress for back pain.
If you’re looking for a high-end mattress that’s durable and good for the environment, check out the Saatva Latex Hybrid!
Who should buy the Saatva Latex Hybrid?
- Back and stomach sleepers
- Back pain sufferers
- Hot sleepers
- Allergy sufferers
- Eco-conscious individuals
- Those who prefer firmer mattresses
Firmness
We rated the Saatva Latex Hybrid 7.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. It’s an extra-firm mattress and it has a bouncy latex feel which makes it easy to move around the mattress. This mattress provides lots of support and it can accommodate most individuals regardless of their body weight.
This mattress is ideal for back and stomach sleepers. The Talalay latex layer does an excellent job of evenly distributing body weight and keeping your spine in a neutral alignment. If you’re a back sleeper, you will also get some nice pressure relief for your lower back.
We don’t recommend this mattress for strict side sleepers. It’s much firmer than your average foam mattress and it might be too hard on your shoulders and hips. A great option for side sleepers is the Amerisleep AS5.
One drawback of this mattress is that it has high motion transfer. This can be a problem if you’re a light sleeper and you sleep with a restless partner.
The mattress has excellent edge support. You can use the entire surface of the bed and sleep near its edges if you like. You won’t feel like you’re about to fall off to the floor.
Construction
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is 12 inches tall and is made in the USA. It’s comprised of four layers including organic materials and a supportive coil system. The mattress is eco-INSTITUT® and GreenGuard Gold certified free of harmful chemicals and pollutants.
It’s encased in a breathable organic cotton cover that features proprietary Guardin™ antimicrobial treatment. Directly beneath the cover lies a layer of GOTS certified organic New Zealand wool. This organic wool layer wicks away moisture and acts as a natural flame barrier for the mattress.
The comfort layer of the mattress is made of 100% Talalay latex. This latex foam layer has 5 zones to provide targeted support for your entire body. It also features ventilated pinholes across its entire surface to promote more airflow within the mattress.
Below that is a pocketed coil unit that consists of individually wrapped coils made from recycled steel. This section also has different firmness zones with reinforced support around the lumbar area. The coil system adds even more airflow which makes the mattress a good fit for hot sleepers.
All of these layers sit on an eco loft pad that’s made of GOTS certified organic cotton. This provides a stable base for the mattress and prevents it from shifting.
I should mention that the Saatva Latex Hybrid has a higher price point than average, as do all Saatva mattresses. This is due to the expensive and time-consuming process of obtaining natural latex for the bed’s construction.
Sizes
The Saatva Latex Hybrid comes in 7 sizes. It’s compatible with most foundations and bed frames, including adjustable bed bases like the Saatva Lineal Adjustable Base.

Firmness
Our team gave the Helix Dawn a 7.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. It’s a firm mattress that has a bouncy, responsive feel overall. If you tend to switch positions while you sleep, this mattress is a great fit for you.
This mattress is best suited for back and stomach sleepers. It will provide you with adequate support to keep your hips and spine aligned. The latex foam alternative layer will also alleviate tension and relieve pressure points.
On the other hand, we think side sleepers should look for another mattress. This mattress is just too firm to offer the deep pressure relief needed for your shoulders and hips.
Despite containing responsive coils, the Helix Dawn has pretty low motion transfer. It’s a good option for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by their partner’s movements.
It also has good edge support. You can sleep near the end of the mattress and you will feel secure.
Construction
The Helix Dawn Mattress is 12 inches tall and is made in the USA. It’s comprised of four layers which include proprietary foams and pocketed coils. This mattress is both CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified free of harmful chemicals and heavy metals.
If you want to get a cooler sleep surface, you can choose to include the GlacioTex Cooling Cover in your purchase for an added fee.
Directly beneath the cover is a comfort layer that’s made of proprietary Helix Dynamic Foam. This unique material is a latex foam alternative that offers resilient support and body-contouring.
Next up, is a transition layer of high-grade polyfoam that offers firmer support and prevents you from sinking to the bed’s support layer.
The support core of the mattress consists of individually wrapped coils. These coils are durable and responsive, and they isolate motion better than traditional interconnected coils.
Lastly, the bed’s base layer is made of DuraDense foam. This high-density foam acts as a durable foundation for the coil system and all the layers above it.

Firmness
We gave the Helix Plus a 7 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. It’s a true firm mattress that has a soft memory foam feel on top and a more resilient latex layer right below it. It’s suitable for most individuals but it’s best suited for people over 230 lbs.
This mattress is ideal for stomach and back sleepers. You will feel well-supported on this mattress and your body will stay in proper alignment.
Side and back combination sleepers will also enjoy sleeping on this mattress. Its memory foam top layer provides nice cushioning and pressure relief for sensitive joints. Your lower back will also get some contouring to relieve pain and stiffness.
This mattress is not the best option for couples. It has poor motion isolation and below average edge support (common complaints about Helix mattresses) which are both important factors when choosing a mattress for couples.
Construction

Factors to consider when choosing a mattress
There are several important things to consider when you’re looking for the best mattress for your needs. Before you ultimately decide on a mattress, take a careful look at each of these factors.
Edge support
This refers to how well the perimeter of a mattress supports weight. If you want to maximize the entire surface of a mattress, look for a mattress with good edge support.
Motion isolation
This refers to how well a mattress absorbs cross-mattress movement. Motion isolation is especially important for couples. If you sleep with a restless partner, keep this factor in mind when purchasing a mattress.
Firmness
This refers to how soft or firm a mattress feels when you lie on it. This could differ from person to person depending on your preferred sleeping position and body type. The most popular mattress firmness is medium-firm.
Temperature regulation
Does the mattress keep you cool at night? Or does it trap body heat? This factor is very important if you’re someone who tends to overheat during sleep.
Pricing
The price of a mattress depends on its design and the materials used in its layers. All-foam mattresses are generally more affordable than latex or hybrid mattresses. Choose a mattress that fits your budget as well as your unique needs.
Construction
Do you like the conforming hug feel of memory foam? Or maybe you prefer the responsive feel of latex mattresses? Make sure to check the construction and materials used before purchasing a mattress.
