Latex mattresses are some of the best mattress types you can find on the market today. They have a feel unlike any other mattress material and are naturally cooling as well as naturally hypoallergenic. But because pure, natural latex can be time-consuming and expensive to produce, latex mattresses are also some of the most expensive mattress types one can buy. A few mattress brands have done a little workaround when it comes to latex mattresses and produced latex feel mattresses – foam mattresses that are made to give similar comfort and support as latex.
The Amazon Basics Latex Feel memory foam mattress is one such example. The difference is, they have actually blended latex foam with memory foam to create LURAcor, an alternative latex foam type.

Firmness
Amazon Basics offers two firmness options for the Latex Feel mattress: a Medium and a Medium Firm. This sits on a 6-7 on the mattress firmness scale. This makes it a good mattress for most types of sleepers, including combo sleepers. Medium firmness is great for those who sleep predominantly on their backs and stomachs as a firmer surface offers more support. Strict side sleepers, however, may find the Latex Feel mattress to be a little too firm.
That said, heavier individuals may be better off at choosing hybrid mattresses like the OkiOki Mattress since a combination of spring coils and foam offer better support for those who weigh over 250 lbs. This is why we almost never recommend all-foam beds to heavier sleepers. Those of average weight may find the Latex Feel mattress to be the right mattress type for them.
LURAcor or alternative latex foam is more responsive than regular foam or traditional memory foam. A traditional memory foam feel allows sleepers to sink into the mattress, giving them a lot of pressure relief. A more responsive mattress feel still relieves pressure off the pressure points but will not let sleepers sink into the mattress. While a fairly large number of people love the feel of regular memory foam, the vast majority prefer a mattress that’s a bit more responsive. Sinkage can also cause the sleeper to experience more heat retention, and we say more because true memory foam is already known notoriously for trapping heat. This could be an issue especially for those who tend to sleep hot.
The AmazonBasics Latex Feel mattress addresses the issue of hot sleepers with cooling gel-infused top layer as well as breathable support foam layer in the middle. Cooling gel helps lower and regulate body temperature thus helping sleepers sleep more temperature neutral.
Construction
There are only three foam layers to the entire construction of the Amazon mattress. All of its foam layers are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning it is safe and free from harmful chemicals or toxins that may harm you or the environment. Like natural, all-latex mattresses, the Latex Feel mattress is also hypoallergenic.
The top layer consists of the alt-latex foam that offers none of that stuck in the mud feel usually associated with memory foam. The responsiveness of the top layer also allows sleepers to move about freely while providing good motion isolation. Motion transfer is a problem especially if you share a bed with a partner but we found that the AmazonBasics Latex Feel mattress was good at deadening motion when sleeping with either a partner or a pet.
The middle foam layer or the transition layer of the AmazonBasics Latex Feel mattress features a convoluted foam design that allows for greater air flow thus contributing even more to the mattress’ cooling effect. The wave like design also helps with offering something like a zoned support for the entire body, contouring to the body’s shape from head to toe. All three layers of the Latex Feel mattress help promote better spinal alignment, especially for strict back sleepers.
The base layer of the Latex Feel mattress consists of a high-density polyfoam that helps provide both stability and durability to the entire mattress. All the polyfoam layers feature breathable holes that once more add to the cooling effect of the mattress.
All the foam layers of the Latex Feel mattress comes enclosed in a luxurious, quilted mattress cover that lends a plush feel to it.
While we did find the edge support of the Latex Feel mattress to be fair, a few verified reviews stated that it offered weak edge support so if you are the type of sleeper who likes to sleep on the very edge of the bed, you may want to look into getting another mattress with exceptional edge support.
Like most bed in a box brands, upon unboxing your new mattress, you need to wait from 24-48 hours to achieve the full size of your mattress. Amazon sometimes recommends waiting for even up to 72 hours although ours did not necessarily take that long. We did experience slight off-gassing initially but this is to be expected with most foam mattresses.
Usually, when you buy a mattress online, you may have to wait a few weeks to receive it but we got our AmazonBasics mattress almost immediately, within a couple of days. This may not be the case if you live fairly remote. Amazon does not offer free shipping for any of their mattresses.

Side sleepers actually make up the majority of the world’s most preferred sleeping position and strict side sleepers need a soft mattress. A softer mattress offers those who sleep predominantly on their sides better pressure relief especially on their hips and shoulders. A firmer mattress would only add to the strain on their pressure points.
Amazon Basics offers mattresses in different firmness levels and different thicknesses. The AmazonBasics Plush Feel Memory Foam mattress is a soft foam mattress that caters to side sleepers. You do, however, have the choice to opt for the same mattress in a medium-firm feel.

As mentioned previously, the AmazonBasics Plush Feel mattress does come in two firmness options: a Plush and a Medium Firm. This sits on a 3-6 on the mattress firmness scale. We recommend the Plush feel for strict side sleepers, as well as combo sleepers and the Medium Firm for back and stomach sleepers.
Once again, because it is an all-foam bed, we do not recommend it for those who weigh well over 250 lbs, as all-foam mattresses would not give them the support and comfort that they need. A great mattress for heavier individuals is something like the Layla Hybrid.
Because it is a true memory foam feel, the AmazonBasics Plush Feel mattress does have that slight sink-in feel that only true memory foam enthusiasts would appreciate so it would be best to bear that in mind if you dislike it.
Traditional memory foam mattresses curve and contour to the body, offering maximum pressure relief and comfort. For side sleepers, the main pressure points are especially painful since they are some of the boniest parts of the body. Medium firm models made of hard foam may only exacerbate any issues.
Construction
The AmazonBasics Plush Feel Memory Foam mattress features a 3 foam layer construction that is standard with most of their mattress models.
The plush feel memory foam top comfort layer gives sleepers extra pressure relief as it hugs the contours of the body. This is also a great option for those who suffer from chronic pain such as fibromyalgia or joint pain like arthritis.
The middle support layer of memory foam contain breathable holes that allow for more air flow, helping the mattress stay cooler. If you are an extremely hot sleeper though, you may want to look into getting a memory foam alternative mattress that specializes in cooling like the Purple mattress. Both the top and middle layers of the Plush Feel mattress act as comfort layers due to their true memory foam feel.
The base layer of the Plush Feel mattress features a wavy surface design that not only acts as an extra support layer but also helps with the mattress’ breathability. This is also the layer that holds all the other layers in place and keeps the mattress sturdy.
We found motion transfer to be minimal with the Plush Feel mattress but this is standard for most memory foam mattresses. A memory foam mattress usually provides excellent motion isolation. This makes it a good choice for those who share a bed but only if you and your partner have similar sleeping styles.
Edge support was good but not exceptional. If you are the type of sleeper who finds themselves sleeping on the edge of the bed very often, we suggest innersprings or hybrid beds that feature reinforced edge support.
All of the foam layers in the AmazonBasics Memory Foam mattress are CertiPUR-US certified and the fabric used for the mattress cover is OKEO-TEX certified. The cover is neither removable nor washable and should any accidents happen, we recommend spot cleaning immediately. We also always advocate the use of mattress protectors, especially if you’ve just gotten yourself a new mattress.
It took around 72 hours for the AmazonBasics Plush Feel mattress to fully expand but you can use the mattress immediately after unboxing. We experienced a tiny bit of off-gassing when unboxing the mattress and the new mattress smell did linger a little bit after airing out the mattress for a few days. It did dissipate in a week but if you are particular to smells, you might have to bear this in mind.
Amazon does not offer free shipping for their mattresses but for such an affordable mattress, some people may be willing to let that one slide.
