Our experience with Lytton’s Comfort Plush Mattress

Because of my line of work, it takes a lot for me to be thoroughly impressed by a mattress and I have to say, the Lytton Sleep mattress in Comfort Plush takes the cake.

On the outside, the Lytton Comfort Plush mattress looks like it belongs in a 5-star hotel but the inside also packs some serious hardware: a quantum coil unit, air technology and proprietary memory foam. We love a mattress that feels as good as it looks.

Who should buy the Lytton Sleep Mattress in Comfort Plush

  • All sleeper types
  • Couples
  • Hot sleepers
  • Heavier set individuals

Firmness

The Lytton Comfort Plush mattress is around a 3.5-5 on the mattress firmness scale making it a medium soft to medium. This makes it suitable for all sleeping positions, including those who sleep strictly on their sides.

Side sleepers need a soft feel mattress which the Comfort Plush mattress provides due to its plush Euro pillow top surface. This mattress offers side sleepers as well as those who suffer from chronic pain like fibromyalgia extra pressure relief from their main pressure points.

On one hand though, while plush and extremely comfortable, softer mattresses might not give strict back sleepers and stomach sleepers adequate support when it comes to proper spinal alignment. We recommend something firmer like Amerisleep’s AS2 for those who sleep predominantly on their backs and stomachs.

Being a hybrid mattress, the Lytton Sleep Comfort Plush mattress is also a good choice for those who weigh over 250 lbs. as hybrid mattresses offer better support to those with bigger body types.

When it comes to edge support, the Lytton Sleep mattress offers excellent edge-to-edge support. Not once did I feel any danger of slipping off the bed whether I was sitting or laying on or close to the edge. If you’re someone who likes sleeping closer to the edge of the bed, good edge support is crucial.

If you share a bed with a partner or a pet, you’d be happy to know that the Lytton Sleep Comfort Plush mattress gave little to no motion transfer. The Comfort Plush mattress features the Leggett and Platt Quantum coil system which independently reacts to pressure changes, no matter which side of the bed you are on.

Construction

There are four layers to the Lytton Sleep Comfort Plush mattress. The top layer is made up of premium CertiPUR-US certified open-cell memory foam that’s also cooling gel-infused. This cooling gel memory foam layer offers added comfort while also helping wick away heat, helping you sleep cooler.

This same top layer features a luxurious quilted Euro Pillow top that’s hand-tufted and hand-stitched. Hand-tufting has long been a mattress-making technique that is used to make premium quality mattresses. Hand-tufting also ensures the overall safety of the mattress as no glues or harsh chemicals were used to bind all the mattress layers.

The comfort layer features a Lytton Sleep’s 12ILD proprietary foam which they call their Serene foam – a memory foam alternative that utilizes a trademarked Supportive Air Technology. This tech provides billions of microscopic air capsules that helps enhance support and reduce pressure while also helping with temperature regulation. Both the Serene foam layer and the Euro Pillow top feature cooling capabilities, making the Lytton Comfort Plush mattress a solid choice for those who tend to sleep exceptionally hot.

Below the comfort layer lies the Lytton Sleep Comfort Plush mattress’ Quantum Coil layer that’s made by Leggett and Platt. In case you didn’t know, Leggett and Platt is an American diversified manufacturer that designs and produces various engineered components and products that can be found in furniture and automobiles. They have made components for the likes of Sleep Number, Tempur-Sealy and now, Lytton Sleep.

The Quantum Coil system is made up of individually wrapped, pocketed coils that provide reinforced support while helping with heat dissipation by allowing air to flow freely throughout the entire mattress. Constant and continuous air flow also helps keep the mattress stay fresh and dry, thus extending the life span of your new mattress.

The base foam of the Lytton Sleep Comfort Plush 1.8 density 36ILD high-density quality foam. This provides a sturdy base to the entire mattress while helping hold all the comfort layers together.

All these layers come enclosed in a breathable cotton cover that also features sewn-in horizontal handles on each side, making it easier for you to rotate your mattress should you need to.

We did not experience any off-gassing with the Lytton Sleep mattress. It took around 24 hours to expand to its full size.

Lytton Comfort Firm

Pros

  • Cooling
  • Hand-tufted and hand-crafted ensuring no glues or harsh chemicals were used
  • Good for strict stomach and back sleepers
  • Firmness options

Cons

  • Not suitable for strict side sleepers
  • Lytton mattress cost might be too pricey for some

Our experience with Lytton’s Comfort Firm Mattress

The Lytton Sleep Comfort Firm mattress is a hybrid mattress made up of the same components as its twin, the Comfort Plush, but it is made specifically for back sleepers and stomach sleepers and those who prefer harder, firmer mattresses.

The best mattresses for stomach sleepers and back sleepers are mattresses that are firm to medium-firm. Firmer mattresses offer hip and back support, ensuring proper spinal alignment for those who sleep predominantly on their backs and stomachs.

Who should buy the Lytton Sleep Mattress in Comfort Firm

  • Strict back and stomach sleepers
  • Hot sleepers
  • Heavier individuals
  • Couples with similar sleeping positions

Firmness

Sitting on a 6-8 on the mattress firmness scale, Lytton Sleep’s Comfort Firm model is a definite medium-firm to firm, depending on the sleeper’s weight and body type. More petite individuals may find the Comfort Firm to be a little firmer, while those who are heavier might find it to be medium to medium-firm. This is because mattress firmness is pretty subjective.

Unlike Lytton Sleep’s softer option, which offers plush comfort, the Comfort Firm mattress provides a firmer surface that does not sink in too much. This not only makes it a good option for back and stomach sleepers but for those who suffer from back pain and other lumbar and spinal health issues.

However, we do not recommend the Comfort Firm mattress to strict side sleepers as the firm surface would just eat into their main pressure points, causing them grief instead of great pressure relief. We recommend having them look into something like Avocado Sleep’s Green mattress instead.

Again, much like its plusher sibling, the Comfort Firm mattress can offer heavier individuals – usually those weighing 250 lbs. and up – extra support due to the fact that it is a hybrid mattress.

Motion transfer was pretty much non-existent when I tried out the Lytton Sleep Comfort Firm mattress, making it a good choice for those who share their bed with a partner or a pet.

As with the Comfort Plush, edge support on the Lytton Sleep Comfort Firm mattress was excellent, making it a great mattress option for those who tend to sleep close to the edge of the bed.

Construction

The Lytton Sleep mattress in Comfort Firm features four layers. The top layer is made up of gel-infused open cell memory foam that helps wick away both heat and moisture. The quilted top panel also features a Euro Pillow top giving the Comfort Firm mattress a luxurious hotel bed feel.

Below that lies the comfort foam layer made from Lytton Sleep’s proprietary memory foam alternative called their Serene foam. Featuring their Supportive Air technology, the Serene foam has billions of microscopic air capsules that enhances support and reduces pressure while helping prevent heat retention, which traditional memory foam is infamous for.

Like with the Comfort Plush model, Lytton Sleep’s Comfort Firm mattress features the same Leggett and Platt Quantum coil system that provides additional and reinforced support while allowing more air flow. This helps keep the mattress stay cool, fresh and dry while helping prevent the growth of mold and mildew.

The base layer is made up of high-density 36ILD foam that adds to the Comfort Firm mattress’ firmness while keeping the entire mattress stable and sturdy.

All these layers come encased in an organic cotton cover that’s soft and breathable. The Lytton Sleep Comfort Firm mattress is also hand-tufted, which means no glue or harsh chemicals were used in binding all the foam and fabric layers together.

All of Lytton Sleep’s mattresses use foam layers that are VOC-free and CertiPUR-US certified. There was no noticeable smell common with other mattresses made from memory foam blends when we first unboxed the Comfort Firm mattress. It took around 24 hours for the mattress to expand to its final and full size.
