Pros and cons

Pros

  • Actively cooling
  • Lightweight
  • Natural and organic
  • Eco-friendly and sustainable
  • Hypoallergenic

Cons

  • Comes in only 2 colors
  • Comes in only 3 sizes
  • Sateen can be a bit too slippery

Made from 100% organic bamboo lyocell blend, the Aeptom Organic Bamboo Bed Sheet set includes 1 fitted sheet, 1 flat sheet and 2 pillow cases.

Upon unboxing, we found the fabric to be quite cool to the touch (just like Jennifer Adams sheets) which is one of the main attributes of bamboo fabric. Sheets that are actively cooling are one of the best ways to help alleviate the discomfort of those who tend to sleep hot, especially when paired with an actively cooling mattress such as the Purple mattress.

The fitted sheet features a deep pocket fit and can cover mattresses up to 15 inches in thickness. The elastic is sturdy and the seams and stitches are well-sewn. It fits snugly onto your mattress, just make sure you’re getting the size of your bed sheets that matches the size of your current mattress and you’re golden.

Both the matching flat sheet and pillow cases are made from the same organic bamboo lyocell fabric. Organic bamboo lyocell is pretty much a superior fabric in every way. Aside from its cooling and moisture-wicking properties, organic bamboo lyocell is also hypoallergenic, making it a good option for those who suffer from allergies. It also means the Aeptom sheets are suitable for children.

Sateen (not to be confused with satin) is a type of satin weave that’s made with spun yarns instead of silk filament. Similar to silk and satin, sateen produces a sheen that elevates not only the feel of the fabric but the look of it as well. There’s just something so elegant about silky soft, shiny fabric. The Aeptom sheet set definitely bumped up the classy factor of my bedroom. Pair them with a mattress that’s fit for a 5 star hotel and you’ve got yourself a daily staycation, right in your bedroom.

The Aeptom sheets are not too shiny though, if that makes you worried – it’s more of a subtle sheen as sateen often is. If you prefer something that’s also super soft but without any sheen whatsoever, you might want to look into organic cotton sheets and organic cotton bedding like the Nest Bedding Sheet set.

Upon first washing, we noticed that the Aeptom sheets did lose its initial maximum cooling factor. Although still cooling, it was not as cool to the touch anymore as when we first unboxed it. This is quite normal for most fabrics made out of bamboo and should not be any cause for concern or complaint.

It is recommended to use the gentle cycle when machine washing your sheets and always with cold water – the use of hot water may alter the shape and size of your sheets. It is also best to use a gentle detergent and both bleach and softener are not recommended. Should there be any spills or accidents, it is recommended to spot clean first with baking soda or oxygenated detergents before tossing in the wash. Tumble dry on low, dryer must also be on a low setting.

All of Aeptom’s products are OKEO-TEX certified, meaning they have passed the highest criterion for chemical safety. Aeptom also ensures that the raw materials they use for their bedding products are from FSC certified organic forests. We do appreciate a company that also cares for the environment.

Aeptom offers free shipping for all of their bedding products. Returns are accepted up to 30 days. Aeptom’s bedding products are all made in the USA.

Why choose Bamboo?

Bamboo fabric has risen in popularity in the recent years, partly due to the fact that it’s become one of the top choice fabrics in the textile industry for the more ecologically conscious. In being more eco-conscious, you care for the earth whilst caring for yourself.

The benefits of bamboo are numerous and not just when it comes to bedding and clothes. Used for centuries in food and shelter, bamboo is also utilized in medicines and fuel. The cultivation of bamboo is sustainable, in that it takes little to no effort in terms of energy as well as pesticide and fertilizer use. Essentially a grass, bamboo grows quickly and is self-regenerating, meaning for each harvest, replantation is not needed.

When it comes to textiles, there are three main types of fabric made from bamboo:

  1. Bamboo viscose – The cheapest type of bamboo- based fabric to produce, bamboo viscose has a lower absorbency rate and is less breathable as opposed to bamboo lyocell. It also takes more energy and resources to manufacture.
  2. Bamboo lyocell – More sustainable and takes far less energy to produce than viscose, bamboo lyocell is often used as a substitute for silk or cotton due to its softer feel as well as its high absorbency rate and better drape ability.
  3. Mechanically produced fine bamboo fiber – The most premium quality bamboo fabric there is and the only type of fabric that can be called a “true bamboo fabric”, it is quite time-consuming to produce and less manufacturers offer it thus making it a more expensive option. It is the most eco-conscious fabric made from bamboo there is.

Make sure to read the fine print on the labels of any bamboo-based fabric each time you shop. Not all of them are created the same.

Not only is bamboo bedding the more sustainable bedding option there is, it also looks and feels good.

  • Comfortability – Super soft and smooth, bamboo lyocell (which Aeptom’s bedding are made from) is also more breathable, thus allowing heat to escape. The use of bamboo bed sheets means you’ll always sleep cool and comfortable.
  • Hypoallergenic – Organic bamboo bedding is naturally hypoallergenic and antimicrobial.
  • Durability – Bamboo bed sheets are more durable than traditional cotton sheets. Premium quality bamboo bedding are made with longer fibers stretched out as opposed to shorter, interwoven fibers of regular cotton. This makes it less susceptible to tearing and pilling, thus extending the longevity of your sheet set, duvets and pillow cases.
