The Purple Original Bed

Purple mattresses have a 10-year limited warranty period. The warranty period extends from the original purchase date of the mattress. The limited warranty is only valid for the original purchaser. This means that the warranty wouldn’t apply if the mattress is resold, no matter whether it is new or slightly used. Original proof of purchase (such as receipts), the warranty document that comes with your new Purple mattress, and the law tags from the mattress are required to to make a warranty claim. To ensure the length of your Purple warranty in case of any changes in the future, we highly recommend checking their website for any updates before purchasing.

Purple will not charge the original purchaser to repair or replace their mattress once Purple confirms the mattress to be defective according to their terms and conditions. Transportation, handling and inspection costs associated with repair and replacement of the mattress however, must be covered by the purchaser.

What’s covered under the Purple Mattress warranty?

While some mattress brands have varying specifications of warranty coverage for each mattress type, the Purple mattress warranty covers all, from their memory foam mattress to their hybrids. It does not however, cover any accessories or products associated with the mattress such as the mattress cover or the Purple mattress protector. (Tip: to keep your new Purple mattress cover in tiptop shape, we always recommend the use of a mattress protector). The Purple mattress cover as well as the Purple mattress protector have their own, separate Purple warranties.

The Purple mattress warranty is also only applicable to Purple mattresses that are used in private homes, proof that it is so may be required when making a claim.

Purple mattresses are covered by warranty only if they are used on firm, flat non-spring foundation or bed frames. This includes adjustable bed frames such as zero gravity beds. In the case of larger sized mattresses such as a Queen and King size mattress, including a California King, the bed frame must have 5 or more legs including a center support. The use of a non-sufficient and non-supportive bed frame, bed base or foundation voids the warranty.

The Purple mattress warranty also covers body impressions and visible indentations that are greater than one (1) inch compared to the surrounding mattress areas. This is what is typically known as mattress sag. The indentation must be of a big enough length and width to be considered a body impression and only applies to the mattress and not to the settling of its cover fiber-fill materials.

To measure the indentation, the cover would need to be unzipped and removed. A straight edge should then be set on the mattress, ideally measuring slightly longer than the indentation and a vertically placed ruler is then used to measure the depth of the indentation. The mattress must also be placed on the floor when measuring, so as to rule out any issues that can be caused by the mattress foundation or bed frame. The Purple mattress warranty also covers cracks and splits that happens during normal use and handling of the mattress.

What damage is excluded from warranty coverage?

The Purple mattress warranty shall not apply if Purple determines and confirms the following:

  • The mattress has been abused, intentionally damaged or neglected resulting in tears, stains, odors and other signs of physical damage
  • Damage from bodily fluids such as blood
  • Damage from food and drink
  • Damage from weather or sun exposure
  • Folds, footprints, burns, cuts or signs of jumping on the bed
  • Rodent and insect infestation
  • Visible indentation is less than 1 inch
  • Use of improper foundation, bed frames or box springs
  • Removal of the law tag
  • Normal wear and tear of the cushioning materials

A lot of mattress companies do reserve the right to refuse a claim based on reasons under their sole discretion. It is best to always read the fine print before buying.

Replacement terms

Once your Purple mattress has been inspected and its defects fall under the Purple warranty conditions, Purple will either repair or replace the mattress. Bear in mind that you would have to pay transportation and handling costs for either the replacement mattress or the repaired mattress. In replacements, you cannot choose between different mattress models (i.e. if your old mattress was the Original Purple mattress, you will be getting the same).

The zippered cover is not part of the Purple mattress warranty. It has its own warranty which is valid for a 2 year period from its date of purchase. In the case of a defective cover, Purple may repair or replace the cover within that time frame. Please note that the mattress cover is removable but not machine washable, hence we advocate the use of mattress protectors all the time. For accidents or spills, spot clean immediately.
