It’s hard to find information about where DreamCloud mattresses are manufactured. Are they made in the USA, China, the UK, or somewhere else? Let’s cut through the confusion and find out exactly where Dreamcloud mattresses are made.
Where are DreamCloud mattresses made?
Here’s what I got straight from the horse’s mouth – Dreamcloud mattresses are made in:
- Vietnam
- Malaysia
- China
- Mexico
- USA (allegedly, more on this below)
This allegedly means that some DreamCloud mattresses are also made in the USA.
A DreamCloud representative declined to tell me how many (if any) factories they had in the US, so for now, it’s uncertain whether DreamCloud actually manufactures any mattresses within the United States.
Read our full DreamCloud mattress review for more details about the brand.
Does DreamCloud make mattresses in the USA?
Final verdict – unknown, but likely no.
Here’s further explanation.
Their parent company, Resident, was already sued twice for false claims that they “assemble” mattresses in the US (once for DreamCloud and once for Nectar Sleep), then they lost, and the FTC started sending out payments to damaged customers in 2023.
So now, when their customer support says that the US is one of the places they manufacture mattresses, I just see that as their policy being to not give up on the deception.
The second reason comes from their explanation of material sourcing and quality inspection:
In order to provide our customers with their best night’s sleep, we’ve evaluated and selected the best possible materials from around the world. We source materials internationally and all of our products ship directly to you from within the US.
All of our products are created with care and within the strict safety policies currently in place to keep consumers safe. To put your mind at ease, all of our products undergo strict quality inspection here in the US before being shipped to you.
This literally means they only check out the mattress in the US before they ship it from the US. That’s it. No assembly, no stitching, no nothing.
Does DreamCloud manufacture any mattresses in the UK?
No.
I found some quite random information online coming from certain mattress-reviewing websites that claim DreamCloud has UK-based manufacturing facilities, which nobody from DreamCloud US or DreamCloud UK was able to confirm, so in my book, those statements are going under “alternative facts about DreamCloud” – a chapter that keeps getting longer.
The UK website states that “some elements of the mattress” were made in the UK.
But what could be made in the UK when the mattress itself is not even assembled there? They surely aren’t shipping thread or coils to China to have them built into the mattress. It could be a tag or something silly like that, if anything.
They do have a website for the UK (but no showrooms), and they ship products all around the UK, from the UK.
Does DreamCloud manufacture any products in China?
Yes, China is one of the main countries where they manufacture products, and that includes mattresses, duvets, pillows, sheets, etc.
DreamCloud has manufacturing facilities in many countries with a cheap labor force, and they don’t produce one type of product in one country.
They try to keep the standard the same so that their customers don’t get random-quality products, but anything you buy from DreamCloud is going to be a mystery until you actually open up the product and look at the label.
Who manufactures DreamCloud?
DreamCloud is a brand owned by Resident, so we could say that Resident manufactures DreamCloud mattresses.
They very likely use the same manufacturing facilities for all their brands.
Ran Reske is the founder and owner of Resident, and under this company, he owns a number of other businesses.
Not all of them are connected to the mattress industry.
Here’s a list of all the sister companies under Resident:
- Nectar Sleep
- DreamCloud Sleep
- Awara Sleep
- Level Sleep
- Bundle Living
- 1771 Living
- Cloverlane
- Wovenly Rugs
- Sleep Authority
- Home Well Designed
Where do DreamCloud mattresses ship from?
If you order from the US, DreamCloud mattresses ship from the United States, and if you order from the UK, it will ship from the United Kingdom.
After they are produced in one of the Asian countries (or Mexico), DreamCloud mattresses are shipped from there to the US, where they are checked for quality and then shipped to the buyer.
Mattresses are kept in storage facilities while waiting to be bought. This allows DreamCloud to speed up the delivery time while making sure the mattress quality is good enough for their standard.
Speaking of products made worldwide and mattresses sitting in warehouses, I’d feel bad not to give a shoutout to Saatva, which not only manufactures all their mattresses in the USA, but also makes each mattress to order.
When you receive your mattress, it will be freshly made and not abused like bed-in-a-box mattresses. Saatva mattresses arrive flat.
Just a bright example of how things can be done. All that with high-quality materials and fantastic workmanship. Well done, Saatva!
What are DreamCloud mattresses like?
DreamCloud mattresses are well constructed and tend to be quite firm – that’s been the main complaint about these mattresses recently.
The firmness level is 6.5 on the mattress firmness scale, which puts DreamCloud into the Medium-Firm category.
However, based on how many people react, it’s more like 7-8.
I personally think it’s better for a mattress to be firmer than to be softer because it’s easier to fix a firm mattress. Still, we all have our own preferences.
If you want something truly soft (and more budget-friendly), I’d look at a mattress like Layla, which is an all-foam flippable mattress.
The memory foam layers are firmer on one side of the Layla mattress and softer on the other side, so you can choose the firmness level.
And yet, given that it’s an all-foam bed-in-a-box, its construction is a bit of a weak point durability-wise. Here’s more on DreamCloud vs. Layla.
The layer of individually wrapped coils makes DreamCloud sturdier than regular memory foam mattresses, and the memory foam layer on top gives it cushioning support.
Regardless of whether you pick a DreamCloud model with or without a pillow top, you should still bear in mind that the mattress might be too firm for you.
If you’re a side sleeper, you should probably stay away from DreamCloud. If you can invest a bit more, a 5-inch feather bed would help make it softer. Back and stomach sleepers are more likely to enjoy sleeping on these mattresses.
As for temperature regulation, hot sleepers will appreciate a DreamCloud mattress. Their gel-infused memory foam does a decent job at preventing you from sleeping hot, as long as you don’t use a mattress protector or a topper.
DreamCloud doesn’t have any firm foam frame around the edges of the mattress, so if you need good edge support, DreamCloud mattresses are probably not for you.
DreamCloud is covered by a warranty that protects you from any manufacturing defects.
FAQs
These two are not the exact same company, but they do have the same parent company – Resident (previously Resident Home), owned by Ran Reske. Awara and Siena are also owned by Resident.
Resident, and DreamCloud with it, is based out of Palo Alto, California.
DreamCloud offers hybrid mattresses with a pocketed coil system on the bottom and foam layers for pressure relief. They have gel memory foam on top which is supposed to provide a cool touch. Finally, it has a cashmere blend cover, and for a premium choice, you can go for the pillow top. DreamCloud mattresses do not contain fiberglass.
Conclusion
Where are DreamCloud mattresses made?
A valid question, but a complicated answer.
Nobody can tell you where your mattress is made until you open up the package and see the label with your own two eyes. And that could be Vietnam, Malaysia, China, or Mexico.
Although DreamCloud representatives say some of it is made in the USA, you’re likely not going to find any evidence of that.
Next step: Take a look at our guide to the most durable mattresses. If the issues surrounding DreamCloud’s manufacturing are an issue, make sure you choose a brand that has verifiable quality standards. Each brand on this list makes mattresses that will last.
