Nolah mattress is becoming popular online mattress space since its inception in 2015. Based in Colorado with products made entirely in the USA, one would think Nolah could do no wrong. While we’ve spoken pretty highly about them in our Nolah mattress review, Nolah have received their fair share of criticism from consumers. We go through each one of the most common Nolah mattress complaints below.

Complaints about Nolah Mattresses

Nolah signature mattress complaints

Nolah currently has 5 mattresses on their lineup: the Nolah Evolution 15 (a luxury hybrid mattress), the Nolah Natural 11 (a latex hybrid), the Nolah Signature 12 (a more budget-friendly hybrid mattress), the Nolah Original 10 mattress (an all-foam mattress/memory foam mattress alternative) and the Nolah Nurture 10 (a hybrid meant specifically for kids).

Read our Nolah Evolution 15 mattress review and our Nolah Original Hybrid mattress review for more info about each of these models.

Nolah is also one of the few mattress brands to offer lifetime warranty and a substantial 120 night sleep trial. Producing their own proprietary foam that takes the place of memory foam and does away with the accompanying heat retention, it’s hard to find fault with Nolah mattresses but as it is with everything in life, nothing is perfect. Read our articles about Tempur-Pedic complaints, Helix complaints, and Winkbeds complaints to see the most common complaints about competing brands.

The following are the most common complaints about the Nolah mattress.

Sagging

Premature mattress sagging is the most common complaint amongst cheaper mattresses that are made up of all-foam layers. Foam mattresses (especially standard memory foam mattresses), as opposed to hybrids or innersprings, tend to sag and show indentations a little faster with time and regular use. But a well-made mattress, no matter the type, should never show any signs of sagging before its prime.

People have made complaints particularly about the Nolah 10 Original mattress, stating that it showed slight indentations only after a few weeks of use. While the Nolah Original mattress is a favorite amongst many, quite a few people have complained about experiencing premature mattress sag.

To be very fair, heavier individuals – those weighing 250 lbs. and above – should always opt for hybrids or innerspring mattresses over all-foam mattresses because an all-foam mattress will not be able to give them the proper support that they need. If a heavy person lies down on an all-foam bed, indentations and premature sagging could occur due to the sheer weight of the sleeper.

Motion Transfer

When sharing a bed with a partner, it could be difficult to get enough restful sleep if you are a light sleeper and your partner moves around a lot. Foam mattresses, like a traditional memory foam mattress, tend to deaden cross-mattress movement better than mattresses with springs. Responsive mattresses like hybrids and innersprings are bouncier by nature and can sometimes have a lot of motion transfer.

A few complaints have been received before about both the Nolah Signature mattress and the Nolah Evolution mattress regarding poor motion isolation. Both mattress feature a coil system along with foam layers.

This year though, Nolah has redone and tweaked some of their hybrid mattresses in both looks and certain materials. The new Nolah mattress now features a newer version of Nolah’s proprietary foam and when we tried the Nolah Evolution 15 out, we can definitely say that the Nolah mattress performed pretty well when it came to motion isolation.

Quality of materials

All of Nolah’s mattresses are made in the USA with American-sourced materials. This in itself should speak for quality due to the rigorous standards American mattress companies hold themselves to.

But some Nolah customers have complained about the Nolah mattress lacking in quality, leading to the mattress sowing signs of wear well before its time. Poor-quality mattresses can show signs of wear such as bumps and indentations due to the quality of materials used. A new mattress should have an even, flat surface regardless whether its a firmer mattress or a softer mattress.

We are uncertain whether a couple of duds got through Nolah’s quality control but this is definitely something they should look into. Even higher end mattress brands like Saatva were not exempt from complaints such as this. Read our Saatva mattress review for more information.

Sometimes, using the wrong foundation like using a box spring with a foam mattress can wreak havoc on the mattress, no matter how well it’s made so this could also be part of the cause.

In any case, Nolah’s customer service either refunded or replaced the item (with a couple of free pillows thrown in) upon receiving the complaint.

Warranty

Mattress brands that offer lifetime warranty often have often overlooked terms and conditions hidden in the fine print. A lifetime warranty does not necessarily mean you get a new mattress once your old one wears out – FOR LIFE. It usually means the terms and conditions vary slightly for a longer period of time than what is usually given by other mattress companies. Hence why we always reiterate in all of our mattress reviews to always read the fine print.

In the case of Nolah, which offers a lifetime warranty, a number of customers have complained that their terms were not honored in the given timeframe, resulting in either delays or them not getting their replacements or refunds at all.

Customer Service

An online mattress brand’s customer service team is the only point of contact for the customer. And while Nolah’s customer service is pretty good – no complaints of rudeness – some people have complained about the length of time it took for customer service to get back to them to further address their concerns. This results in time lapsing beyond the given parameters especially when it comes to sleep trials and exchanges.

While we shall not excuse a brand just because they have a small team, efficiency should always be at the forefront of any customer service team, no matter how big or small a company may be.
