Our experience with PlushBeds Cool Bliss

It’s no secret that traditional memory foam mattresses are notorious for trapping body heat, causing sleepers to sleep hot. The PlushBeds Cool Bliss mattress features a blend of their very own patented cooling gel-infused memory foam and organic, GOLS-certified Dunlop latex that helps wick away heat from both the body and the mattress itself.

The Cool Bliss mattress is one of PlushBeds bestsellers, and it’s no wonder that it is as it provides the contouring comfort of traditional memory foam without any of the sinkage or heat retention.

Who should buy the PlushBeds Cool Bliss

  • Hot sleepers
  • All sleeper types
  • Those who prefer a more responsive memory foam feel
  • Those who suffer from seasonal allergies

Firmness

The PlushBeds Cool Bliss mattress sits on a 6 on the mattress firmness scale which makes it a medium to medium firm. This means it is suitable for most sleeping positions, including back and stomach sleepers. Strict side sleepers who are a little bit on the petite side might find the PlushBeds Cool Bliss to be somewhat firmer but nothing too crazy – a soft mattress topper might help.

However, because the PlushBeds Cool Bliss is an all-foam mattress, those who weigh more than 250 lbs might not be able to get the support that they would need. Heavier-set individuals need a mattress that features a blend spring coils and foam to be able to get both support and proper spinal alignment. We suggest something like the Layla Hybrid for those who are heavier-set.

We experienced little to no motion transfer on the PlushBeds Cool Bliss mattress, making it a good option for those who share their bed with a partner. Most all-foam mattresses are pretty good at motion isolation.

We also found edge support to be excellent on the PlushBeds Cool Bliss, which is great if you’re the type of sleeper who likes sleeping close to the edge of the bed.

Construction

There are 4 internal layers to the PlushBeds Cool Bliss mattress. All these layers come encased in a luxurious stretch cover that features advanced cooling properties that further helps wick away heat and moisture, helping you stay fresh and cool throughout the night.

The first comfort layer is made up of gel memory foam that features PlushBeds very own patented gel infusion that offers up to 3 times more airflow compared to other gel memory foam brands. This makes the Cool Bliss mattress a solid choice for those who tend to sleep hot.

Below lies a layer of organic Dunlop latex that gives the mattress a more responsive bounce. If you like the contouring feel of regular memory foam but dislike the sinkage, the Cool Bliss mattress would be the perfect choice as it gives no sinkage whatsoever. Organic latex is also naturally cooling as well as hypoallergenic, which adds to the Cool Bliss’ mattress cooling properties.

PlushBeds also included an added air flow layer underneath the latex layer which basically acts as the mattress’ own unique ventilation system, creating another avenue for maximum air flow.

The base layer is made up of high density polyfoam that helps keep all the layers together while also preventing premature mattress sag.

We did not experience any instances of off-gassing with the Cool Bliss mattress. The mattress is also certified by Greenguard Gold, one of the highest certifications a mattress can get. This also assures you that the mattress does not contain any toxins or chemicals that may harm you or the environment.

Sizes

The PlushBeds Cool Bliss mattress comes in 8 mattress sizes, including a Split Queen. It measures 12 inches in thickness and is compatible with most bed frames and bases, including an adjustable base.

#2. Saatva Solaire

Check Current Price | Best for Heavier Individuals | Saatva Review

saatva solaire bed in a dark bedroom
Saatva Solaire

Pros

  • Adjustable firmness to up to 50 different firmness levels
  • Suitable for all sleeper types
  • Active cooling
  • Suitable for heavier individuals
  • Free white glove delivery

Cons

  • Remote settings may be a little finicky for some people
  • Can be too pricey for some
  • Some sizes are only compatible with Saatva’s adjustable bases and frames

Our experience with Saatva Solaire

There are very few adjustable mattresses that feature a blend of latex, memory foam and air chambers making the Saatva Solaire essentially both a foam mattress and an air mattress that’s also adjustable. Confusing? Perhaps. But just know that the Saatva Solaire is a mattress that’s meant to do it all – and then some.

Made specifically for for those who are experiencing specific issues that always results in lack of restful and beneficial sleep such as chronic pain, back pain, sleep apnea, snoring, those in recovery from surgery and pregnancy, among other things. But even if you aren’t really part of the target demographic, you would still find a lot of really cool and really helpful things about the Saatva Solaire – such as the fact that it has 50 different firmness levels, for instance.

Who should buy the Saatva Solaire

  • All sleeper types
  • Heavier individuals
  • Those who prefer adjustable beds
  • Couples

Firmness

There’s 50 different firmness levels to choose from with the Saatva Solaire mattress. That means it is suitable for all sleeping positions, from back sleepers and stomach to strict side sleepers. Choosing a firmness level on the Saatva Solaire is done with a touch of a button and Saatva uses the same level of measurement as that of blood pressure monitors which is mm/Hg. This gives you a precise firmness level every single time.

From the Queen mattress size and up, you can choose between two different firmness level on either side of the bed, which we think is an excellent option especially for couples who prefer different firmness levels.

We barely felt any motion transfer when we tried out the Saatva Solaire with a partner and we found edge support to be superb, making the mattress a good choice for those who like sleeping close to the edge of the bed.

Construction

There are 5 different layers to the Saatva Solaire mattress. All these layers come encased in a 100% certified organic cotton cover that’s both breathable and moisture-wicking. The Saatva Solaire’s mattress cover is also treated with Guardin, a botanical antimicrobial treatment that’s exclusive to Saatva. This treatment helps prevent the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew.

No fiberglass or chemical-based flame retardants are used in the Saatva Solaire mattress. Instead, Saatva uses a Paladin flame barrier which is made from a blend of polyester and rayon.

The Solaire’s mattress cover features a 3″ Euro pillow top with Lumbar Zone quilting, giving you more support in the center third of the mattress.

The first comfort layer is made up of natural latex that’s buoyant and responsive while also proving pressure relief. Latex is also naturally hypoallergenic and cooling, making the Saatva Solaire a good choice for those who suffer from seasonal allergies as well as hot sleepers.

The second comfort layer is made up of CertiPUR-US certified cooling-gel infused memory foam. This layer provides maximum pressure relief as well as contouring support. Unlike traditional memory foam, cooling-gel infused memory foam helps wick away body heat which helps you sleep cooler.

Below that lies a moisture barrier layer that acts as protection for the mechanical components of the mattress.

Right underneath the moisture barrier are the vulcanized air chambers that’s responsible for the adjustable firmness levels. These air chambers feature a multidirectional box waffle design that helps maintain even firmness all throughout the mattress surface, no matter what firmness level you choose.

The base layer houses the quiet air inflator as well as the hoses keeping all the mechanical components out of sight. Unlike other inflatable mattresses, the Saatva Solaire looks streamlined and more like a regular mattress.

We did not experience any instances of off-gassing when we received the Saatva Solaire.

Sizes

The Saatva Solaire comes in 7 different mattress sizes and measures 13″ in thickness. It is compatible with most bed frames and foundations as long as they feature a center beam support. It is also compatible with adjustable bed bases.

Financing

#3. Nolah Original 10

Check Current Price | Best for Pressure Relief | Nolah Original Review

nolah original 10 mattress on wood bed frame
Nolah Original 10

Pros

  • Active cooling
  • Superior pressure relief
  • Contouring
  • Good for pain relief

Cons

  • Slight sinkage
  • Off-gassing
  • Not for heavier individuals

Our experience with Nolah Original 10

We all know by now that most memory foam mattresses are notorious for trapping body heat but thankfully, mattress brands have begun making their own proprietary memory foam that’s infused with all sorts of cooling properties. The Nolah Original 10 is made with Nolah’s very own active cooling AirFoam that not only helps you sleep temperature neutral but also offers 4 times more pressure relief than traditional memory foam.

Who should buy the Nolah Original 10

  • Those who prefer all-foam beds
  • Hot sleepers
  • Those who suffer from chronic pain
  • Couples with similar sleeping positions
  • All sleeper types

Firmness

We found the Nolah Original 10 to be a 5-6 on the mattress firmness scale, which gives it a medium firmness. This means it is suitable for all sleeper types, including strict side sleepers. However, heavier individuals who sleep mostly on their stomachs might find their hips sinking into the mattress too much which can skew their spinal alignment. We suggest something like the Bear Hybrid for those who weigh over 250 lbs.

We did not experience any motion transfer when we tried the Nolah Original out with a partner although we did find edge support to be a little lacking but only because the mattress might be a little too soft for heavier sleepers who like sleeping close to the edge.

Construction

There are only 3 layers to the Nolah Original mattress. All these layers come encased in a soft, snow-white Tencel cover that’s breathable and moisture-wicking.

The comfort layer in the Nolah Original 10 is made up of Nolah’s own AirFoam which, as we’ve mentioned, provides up to 4 times more pressure relief than regular memory foam. It contours to the body’s curves and helps relieve pressure from your joints, making it an excellent choice for those who suffer from chornic pain or arthritis.

Below that lies a layer of resilience foam that helps prevent sleepers from sinking into the mattress too much although if you are heavier than 250 lbs., you might experience a little more sinkage than normal.

The base layer is made up of high density polyfoam that reinforces the support and contouring of the upper layers. It also helps keep the mattress stable by providing extra durability.

We experienced a tiny amount of off-gassing with the Nolah Original 10, which is pretty common for most memory foam mattresses. This dissipated within 24 hours.

Sizes

The Nolah Original 10 comes in 7 standard mattress sizes and measures 10 inches in thickness. It is compatible with most bed bases and foundations, including an adjustable base.

  • Twin
  • Twin XL
  • Full
  • Queen
  • King
  • California King
  • Split King

Financing

Nolah offers financing for all of their mattresses through Affirm.

#4. Puffy

Check Current Price | Best for Side Sleepers | Puffy Mattress Review

puffy mattress on upholstered bed frame
Puffy Mattress

Pros

  • Low motion transfer
  • Great for back and side sleepers
  • Good edge support
  • Free delivery
  • 101-night sleep trial
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons

  • Not quite as bouncy as other brands
  • Not great for heavyweight sleepers over 230 pounds

Our experience with Puffy

Side sleepers make up the bulk of the population but a lot of mattresses can feel a little too firm for strict side sleepers which can cause shoulder and back pain. The Puffy mattress does away with all of that and it is, by far, one of the softest yet supportive mattresses we’ve tried, especially for those who prefer to sleep on their sides.

Who should buy the Puffy Mattress

  • Side and combination sleepers
  • Those who suffer from chronic pain such as fibromyalgia
  • Couples with similar sleeping styles
  • Hot sleepers

Firmness

Puffy rates their mattress as a 5-6 but we feel it’s more of a 4-5 on the mattress firmness scale. This makes it the perfect choice for strict side sleepers. Back sleepers and combination sleepers may also find the Puffy mattress to be comfortable but those weighing well over 230 lbs. may not get the support that they need espcially since the Puffy mattress features an all-foam construction.

We found motion transfer to be almost non-existent on the Puffy mattress when we tried it out although we found edge support to be only fair.

Construction

There are only 3 layers to the Puffy mattress but it does feature both a top and bottom cover that’s different from the other. The top cover is made from a stain-resistant material that’s soft to the touch and is hypoallergenic. The bottom cover features a grip base that helps the mattress stay in place. The Puffy mattress cover is removable and machine-washable.

The first comfort layer is made up of gel-infused memory foam that cradles the muscles and joints for maximum comfort and pressure relief.

The second comfort layer is made from humidity-resistant foam that helps keep the entire mattress temperature neutral and dry.

The base layer is made up of high density polyfoam that helps stabilize the mattress while keeping all the layers together. It is also the layer that helps elimininate motion transfer.

We experienced a small amount of off-gassing when we first unboxed the Puffy mattress but this dissipated within 48 hours.

Sizes

The Puffy mattress comes in 7 different mattress sizes and measures 10″ in thickness. It is compatible with most bed frames and foundations, including an adjustable bed base.

  • Twin
  • Twin XL
  • Full
  • Queen
  • King
  • California King
  • Split King

Financing

Puffy offers financing for all of their mattresses through Klarna.

Free Trial and Warranty

Puffy offers a 101 night sleep trial for all of their mattresses. The Puffy mattress comes backed by a lifetime warranty. Puffy also offers free shipping for all of their mattresses within the contiguous United States.

#5. The Winkbed

Check Current Price | Best for All Sleeper Types | Winkbeds Mattress Review

winkbed mattress on simple base
WinkBed

Pros

  • Excellent pain relief
  • Eases muscle tension
  • Great motion isolation

Pros

  • Some customers have had difficulties with returns
  • Sligt off-gassing

Our experience with Winkbed

Winkbed is one of our favorite hybrid mattresses. The quilted EuroTop foam is infused with cooling and stabilizing gel, which in our experience, provided a great cooling effect and helped the mattress feel more supportive. The support system gives you benefits of an innerspring mattress and contains multi-zoned individually-wrapped coils that help alleviate pressure.

Who should buy the WinkBed mattress

  • All sleeper types
  • Those who prefer hybrids and innersprings
  • Those who prefer a more responsive mattress
  • Heavier individuals
  • Hot sleepers

Firmness

There are 4 firmness options to choose from with the WinkBed mattress.

  • Soft – Sits on a 4 on the mattress firmness scale which is perfect for strict side sleepers as well as those who suffer from chronic pain and/or joint pain
  • Luxury Firm – Sits on a 5 to 5.5 on the mattress firmness scale and is great for most sleeper types as well as couples who share the same sleeping positions
  • Firm – 6-7 on the firmness scale, the Firm version is suitable for strict back and stomach sleepers as a firmer mattress helps keep their spinal alignment in check
  • Plus – The Plus version is an 8 on the mattress firmness scale and is geared more towards heavier individuals. Heavier-set individuals may find softer mattresses to be a bit too soft to be able to give them enough support so a firmer mattress is best.

We did not experience a lot of motion transfer when we tried the WinkBed mattress out with a partner and we also found edge support to be excellent.

Construction

There are essentially 5 layers to the WinkBed mattress and they come encased in a eucalyptus-derived Tencel cover that’s both breathable and moisture-wicking.

The WinkBed also features a Euro pillow top that’s soft and plushy and helps ensure that the body’s joints and pressure points are cushioned.

Below that lies 3 different layers of gel-infused foam that provides even more cushioning and pressure point relief.

A transition layer separates the comfort layers from the support layer made up of individually wrapped spring coils. The coil system provides maximum support while ensuring proper spinal alignment.

The WinkBed also features what they call an Extra Edge Support system that helps enhance the mattress’ edge support capabilities.

We experienced a very tiny amount of off-gassing upon first unboxing the WinkBed mattress but this dissipated within a few hours.

Sizes

The WinkBed mattress comes in 6 different standard mattress sizes and measures 13” in thickness. It is compatible with most bed frames and bed bases, including an adjustable base.

How do I buy a mattress with a good warranty?

Federal law stipulates that you must have the opportunity to read a warranty before you buy a product. That’s why all mattress companies have a warranty page on their website that lists the terms and exclusions. Make sure you read through the mattress warranties of all the different brands you’re considering before you make your purchase so you don’t encounter any surprises when you have to make a claim.

How do mattress warranties work?

There are two different types of mattress warranties: implied warranties and written warranties.

All 50 states have passed laws that regulated implied warranties, which ensure that you have legal recourse if the mattress you buy doesn’t come with a written warranty. The main exceptions to this type of warranty are mattresses that are sold ‘as-is’ and mattresses sold by companies that specifically state in writing that they don’t offer a warranty.

Some states prohibit ‘as-is’ sales. Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Mississippi all prohibit ‘as-is’ sales.

Implied warranty of merchantability means that the product is guaranteed to do what it’s supposed to do. An implied warranty of fitness for a particular purpose means that that product is suitable for a particular use.

Virtually all mattress companies offer a written warranty that offers you specific protections. You’ll need to read the warranty information that the company lists on its website for specifics; but most written mattress warranties protect you against indentations and defects in materials and workmanship for a specified length of time.

The mattress companies on this list all offer a lifetime warranty length, but other mattress brands limit their warranties to a shorter length of time. Common warranty lengths offered by reputable mattress manufacturers include 20 years (e.g. Amerisleep), 15 years (e.g. Saatva), and variable depending on model (e.g. Serta and Beautyrest).

What do mattress warranties cover?

Most mattress warranties cover the following defects:

  1. Sagging – Sagging or sinking that exceeds a specified depth – usually 1.5″ or 1.75″ – that hasn’t been caused by using improper foundations
  2. Zippers and seams – Zippers that are broken or nonfunctional, seams that come undone, and handles that don’t stay attached are generally covered
  3. Coils – Bent or broken coils are covered if you buy an innerspring mattress. If the coils are poking through the fabric, that is also generally covered by reputable mattress manufacturers
  4. Irregular lumps – If lumps are caused by a manufacturing defect in the memory foam, latex foam, or polyurethane foam; then you are generally covered.

What don’t mattress warranties cover?

Most mattress warranties won’t cover the following:

  1. Minor sagging – If you experience sagging that doesn’t exceed the specified threshold, then your limited warranty doesn’t apply
  2. Damage caused by neglect – The mattress manufacturer will not repair or replace your mattress if you misuse or improperly care for it
  3. Normal wear and tear – Minor damage caused by repeated use over time is not covered
  4. Comfort preferences – You can’t get a replacement mattress if you decide that your mattress isn’t comfortable enough. Changes in preference regarding mattress firmness, sleeping position, pressure relief, mattress thickness, and more are not covered

Conclusion

Mattresses that come with lifetime warranties have different terms and conditions, depending on the brand. Always make sure to read the fine print before purchasing.

That said, lifetime warranties offer a lot more bang for your buck.
