Our experience with the Saatva Mattress Topper
Saatva gives us three options to choose from with their mattress topper. Addressing specific needs such as sleeping hot, pressure relief and responsiveness, the Saatva mattress topper has just about everything for everyone.
- Graphite – Like copper, graphite is a well-known heat conductor and helps regulate temperature. Temperature regulation is crucial when it comes to those who tend to sleep hot. If you’re a hot sleeper and you have a mattress that retains heat, you might want to try adding a mattress topper that can help with heat dissipation. Saatva’s graphite mattress topper option is also made up of memory foam, which hugs the body’s curves and provides pressure point relief while also limiting motion transfer. The graphite mattress topper measures 3″ in thickness.
- Latex – For those of us who hate that ‘stuck in the mud’ feel of traditional memory foam and yet still want unmatched pressure relief, a latex topper would be our best bet. We found that all variants of the Saatva mattress topper to be good at helping isolate motion. We experienced hardly any motion transfer. We also found the elastic bands on each corner to be very secure and kept the topper firmly in place on top of the mattress.

Made from the same CertiPUR-US certified open-cell foam that Tuft & Needle uses on their mattresses, the TN mattress topper is responsive unlike traditional memory foam which is great for those who detest feeling as though they are stuck when they move about the bed or switch sleeping positions.
Although not the most cooling mattress topper we have tried, the Tuft & Needle mattress topper still did a pretty good job of helping us sleep at a comfortable temperature. Heat retention is huge issue when it comes to all-foam beds but the open-cell design of the TN topper allows air to flow freely throughout, letting any unwanted heat escape. If your current mattress is active cooling, pairing it with the TN Topper may enhance its cooling capabilities.
Firmer than the mattress toppers mentioned on this list, we found that the Tuft & Needle topper still provided enough give and softness to help keep pressure off our main pressure points. However, if your preferred sleeping position is on your side, you might find the TN mattress topper to be a bit too firm.
Foam toppers are pretty good at motion isolation, no matter whether they’re thick or thin and we experienced barely any motion transfer on the Tuft & Needle mattress topper, making it a good choice for those who share a bed with a partner or a pet.
The Tuft & Needle mattress topper does not have any corner straps to hold it in place – what is has is a silicone beading bottom that prevents it from slipping off the mattress surface. We did find that it still did a good job of holding the topper in place.

The cover is non-removable and non-washable however so we recommend spot cleaning immediately after a spill. We did not experience any off-gassing with the Tuft & Needle mattress topper although we did find that it took more than 2-3 days to reach its full height.

It made our mattress feel more like a pillow-top, which if you are someone who suffers from chronic pain, would probably be a welcome change. Made with Amerisleep’s Bio-Pur foam, a memory foam alternative that can be found in half of their mattress lineup, we found it to be body conforming but without any of that sunk-in feel.

Heat retention is probably the biggest complaint when it comes to memory foam products. Body heat can work against you when it comes to temperature regulation. This is why a lot of mattress brands nowadays come up with new and innovative ways to infused their memory foam products with a wide variety of cooling tech.
Take GhostBed, for instance. Their mattresses along with their mattress topper are infused with what they call their ‘secret green goo’ that provides a 2-stage cooling effect for a deeper, more restorative sleep.
Made up of memory foam that features grooves, swirls and waves on its surface, the GhostBed memory foam topper targets the 5 main zones of the body, offering an even zoned support. We did feel well-supported from head to toe when we tried it out but someone who’s a sensitive sleeper might take some time getting used to its swirled surface. It does feel somewhat like an egg crate mattress topper, only jacked to the nines. In addition, the raised grooves also act as pathways for greater air flow.
True to its memory foam feel, the GhostBed mattress topper offers a body contouring, cradled-in feel. This makes it an excellent choice for those who suffer from chronic pain such as fibromyalgia. But also because of its traditional memory foam feel, it might not be a good option for those who hate that ‘stuck in the mud’ feel that memory foam is most known for.
We found the GhostBed mattress topper to have a medium-soft to medium firmness level, which means it is suitable for all sleeper types, including back sleepers. This also makes it a good choice for those who share a bed with a partner who has a different sleeping position preference than you do.
