July 4th is one of the biggest holidays in the mattress industry, and it’s right around the corner. I spent countless hours researching the different brands that are offering discounts this year. If you need a new mattress, now is the time to make it happen. They won’t be any cheaper than they are right now. The overall best deal I could find is from Saatva.

July 4th Mattress Buyer’s Guide
In-store specials
Online mattress brands aren’t the only companies offering steep discounts for Independence Day. Brick and mortar stores also mark down their mattresses considerably to compete with the more popular online brands. Mattress Firm, Macy’s, JC Penney, and more all offer showrooms where you can try out your new mattress before you buy it.
Many of these stores even have leading brands in stock so you can get same-day delivery and sleep on your new mattress that night. Another benefit is that many brick and mortar stores offer white-glove delivery, meaning that professionals will deliver your new mattress directly to your bedroom and remove your old mattress, which is a premium feature that online mattress brands offer for a fee.
One of the drawbacks of shopping for July 4th mattress deals in person is that many of these stores only offer 30-day return policies, which is significantly lower than the 100-night sleep trials that are standard when you make your mattress purchase online.
Bundles and freebies
In addition to offering deep discounts, many mattress companies offer bundles when ordering on Independence Day. This is a great time of year to score a free pillow, mattress cover, free bedding accessories, bed sheets, duvet cover sets, and even a free comfort layer with your order.
4th of July is the time of year when retailers begin promoting their newest products and they offer incredible deals on some of their discontinued models. Look for adjustable bed bundles, that give you a brand new memory foam mattress and a zero gravity adjustable bed for one low price.
Make sure you read the fine print
If the deal you’re getting on your new mattress seems too good to be true, make sure you scrutinize the fine print. Read the warranty to help determine what you can expect from the manufacturer if you find a defect in your mattress. Most brands offer a 10-year warranty that covers manufacturing defects on a new bed, including sagging.
Warranties are designed to hold mattress companies accountable in the event of damages. Be aware that, if you buy from a third-party vendor and not directly from the manufacturer, there may be clauses that give you a less-than-generous return policy. Some mattress sales may be final, so if your new memory foam mattress doesn’t work out for you, you won’t be able to return it.
Make sure you read the fine print before taking advantage of that perfect mattress deal.
Frequently asked questions
There are mattress sales on all major holidays. The best time to buy a mattress is either during Memorial Day in the summer or Black Friday in the winter.
If you want a cheap mattress, Independence Day has some great sales. If now isn’t the right time for you to buy a new mattress; then you might want to consider waiting until Labor Day, Presidents Day, New Years, or one of the other popular holiday sales periods.
Buying during the 4th of July is a great way to save money on your mattress purchase, so you’re already on the right track. If you want to maximize your savings, we recommend comparing different brands both online and in-person. Online shopping is the easiest way to compare offers from different brands in the mattress industry.
If you’re shopping at an in-person mattress store, it may be possible to negotiate. While you’re not likely to negotiate much lower during 4th of July mattress sales (since the mattresses are already steeply discounted), it’s definitely worth a try. You can also ask about getting a floor model or open-box mattress, which are usually even more steeply discounted compared to getting a completely new mattress.
Mattress prices vary depending on size, materials, and the branding. You can usually find a high-quality memory foam mattress at approximately $1,200 for a queen. Latex and hybrid mattresses are usually priced closer to $2,000 for a queen size. Innerspring mattresses are usually significantly cheaper, since they mostly use steel coils as a support layer with a thin memory foam comfort layer.
Of course, during Independence Day these prices are going to be significantly lower. You can expect to pay less than a grand for a high-quality memory foam mattress, and less than $1500 for a latex foam or hybrid mattress.
