When shopping for mattresses, a lot of us tend not to read the small print and when it comes to returning something that does not really work for us, we get a little blindsided. Enough of that. Got an Avocado mattress you want to return? This is what you need to know.
How the Avocado Mattress return policy works
All you need to do is contact customer support and they shall arrange transport and pickup at a time that’s convenient for you.
Returning an Avocado mattress is pretty straightforward (although there are some complaints about Avocado’s return process).
Avocado’s return policy is one of the simplest we’ve come across and you really won’t run into any issues should you decide to return an Avocado product.
California-made Avocado mattress is one of the most popular online mattress brands on the market today.
They offer mattresses, crib mattresses and mattress toppers that are eco-organic – they even offer a fully vegan mattress as well as Eco-Organic Kids mattress. Read our Avocado mattress review for more info.
The most important thing to bear in mind if you want to return an Avocado product is that only one of each product can be returned per household.
That means one mattress, one foundation and/or one mattress topper.
How to initiate a return
To initiate a return, contact Avocado’s customer service team through the Return Center section on their site.
From there you need to input your order number and email that you used to purchase the mattress (and/or other Avocado products).
Once you enter in your order number, it pulls up your order and from there you can initiate a return. A shipping label is automatically generated for each return.
Please note that if you need to return more than one product, you need to generate a separate shipping label for each one.
Also, if you want to return an Avocado mattress topper, that can be done through Avocado’s live chat option.
Return time frame
Avocado has a requirement that you try the product for 30 days before initiating a mattress return regardless of sleep trial length.
The trial period begins the day you receive your mattress/mattress topper.
All of Avocado’s mattresses have a one year trial period.
The crib mattresses, which includes the Eco-Organic Crib mattress and Organic Crib mattress and Luxury Crib mattress have different trial period lengths.
Both the Eco-Organic Crib mattress and Organic Crib mattress have 30 days while the Luxury Crib mattress has 100 days.
Avocado’s mattress toppers also have varying trial periods.
All of Avocado’s mattress toppers have a 1 year trial period except for their Eco-Organic mattress topper and Alpaca wool mattress topper which both have 100 days.
The 30 day minimum is set in place so you have ample time to actually try the product, giving your body time to adjust.
When do you receive your refund?
You’ll get your refund once Avocado has confirmed receipt of the returned items.
The refund payment will take 1-3 business days to be received on the mode of payment you made a purchase with.
Depending on your bank, the refund may take up to a few weeks to be reflected on the account. The refund payment cannot be transferred to a different account or card and Avocado does not issue checks.
Avocado return fees
There is a $99 return fee for all returned mattresses.
This only applies to the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska.
US territories and other international locations are not covered by the sleep trial.
Exclusions
Mattress must be in usable condition for it to be eligible for return.
This means it must be free from excessive odors, soiling, stains, tears and cuts.
Mattresses that have used in commercial establishments are also not eligible for returns as well as mattresses that have been used with improper bed bases or foundations.
Avocado always advocates the use of mattress protectors to help keep your mattress in good condition.
Mattress toppers must also free from cuts, tears and stains to be eligible for return within the trial period.
Which Avocado products can be returned?
Mattresses, mattress toppers, crib mattresses, bed bases and foundations are all Avocado products that can be returned unless they were on final sale during the time of purchase.
Final sale items are not eligible for return.
How long does Avocado’s trial period last?
Depending on the type of product, the Avocado trial period can last from 30 days to 1 year.
The trial period for each product are as follows:
- Green mattress, Vegan mattress, Organic Luxury mattress, Latex mattress – 1 year
- Eco-Organic mattress, Eco-Organic Kids mattress – 100 days
- Eco-Organic Crib mattress, Organic Crib mattress – 30 days
- Luxury Crib mattress – 100 days
- Green mattress foundation – 1 year
- Luxury Plush foundation – 1 year
- Metal bed frame – 1 year
- Bunkie board – 100 days
- Luxury Organic mattress topper, Organic Latex mattress topper, Vegan mattress topper – 1 year
- Eco-Organic mattress topper, Alpaca Wool topper – 100 days
Is it possible to to exchange your Avocado mattress for a new one?
It is possible (and very easy) to exchange your Avocado mattress for a new one as long as it still falls within the trial period.
Mattresses and mattress toppers that have exceeded the trial period time frame even for just a day will not be eligible for returns or exchanges.

It is not at all difficult to return an Avocado mattress. Avocado has a dedicated return center on their website where you can initiate a mattress return.
Avocado mattresses can last up to 10 years as long as they are only used for their intended purpose and cared for.
