It’s definitely no secret now that memory foam mattresses – although outstanding in giving sleepers the comfort and support that they need – are notorious for trapping heat within. This is why most mattress companies nowadays try to outdo themselves by delving into in depth research and developing the latest technology in creating memory foam and memory foam alternatives that help disperse heat from within. You hear words such as open-cell, cooling gel infused, carbon fiber, and copper but did you know that graphite works as an incredible heat conductor as well?

The Ultra Deluxe Aircool memory foam mattress features graphite infused memory foam and two other proprietary foams that help provide additional cooling and support.

Who should buy the Ultra Deluxe Aircool memory foam mattress?

  • Hot sleepers
  • Stomach, combination and back sleepers
  • Those who share a bed with a partner
  • People who prefer an all foam mattress
  • Those who suffer from chronic pain such as fibromyalgia

Firmness

Let me preface this by stating that firmness level is quite subjective. There can be slight differences felt by sleepers based on body weight, body shape, and sleeping position. Heavier individuals would find medium to medium firm mattresses to be on the softer side while those who are more petite would find a mattress with medium firmness to be a bit on the firm side.

The 12 Park Ultra Deluxe Aircool memory foam mattress falls on a medium on the soft to firm scale. This makes it a great option for most sleeping positions, including strict side sleepers. I would say, as someone who weighs 61kg, this mattress feels more like a medium firm to me.

Construction

The construction of the 12 Park Ultra Deluxe Aircool mattress is fairly simple – just four layers of foam. But each foam layer addresses a myriad of issues that sleepers usually face such as pain, keeping cool and motion transfer.

The top layer is made up of 12 Park’s own breathable Aircool foam that is designed to help wick away excess body heat. Because it is soft and plush, it also helps alleviate pressure off the body’s main pressure points while giving enough support.

The second layer is made up of a graphite infused memory foam which again, helps keep heat away from the body as well as out of the mattress. These top two comfort layers work together to create that memory foam feel of traditional memory foam mattresses.

But here’s where it gets a little different from your usual memory foam mattress. The third layer is made up of 12 Park’s proprietary Endura Flex foam, a latex alternative foam that gives Ultra Deluxe Aircool memory foam mattress responsiveness and bounce that can only be found in latex mattresses. This also helps give sleepers additional pressure relief and support. The latex alternative layer helps sleepers avoid that stuck in the mud feel, allowing you to sleep without feeling like the bed is swallowing you whole. In a way, this is akin to hybrid mattresses wherein 2 completely different halves make a whole new mattress type.

The final layer is made up of high density support foam that keeps all the top layers intact while providing a good, sturdy base for the bed. It also helps with providing better edge support so you won’t feel any danger of slipping off the bed if you have the tendency to sleep on the edges, like I do.

All these layers are encase in a breathable, stretch poly knit cover that’s quilted for extra comfort. The cover is not removable so should any spills or accidents happen, it would be best to spot clean immediately. We also recommend to always use a mattress protector to extended the lifespan of your new mattress.

I feel as though memory foam and latex foam lovers will like this mattress a lot as it gives a comfort combo of both mattress types. Hybrid mattress lovers would probably miss the extra bounce that only spring coils can give but the latex alternative foam may make up for the bounce. It felt a bit disconcerting at first, sleeping on a memory foam mattress that was bouncy at the same time but I definitely appreciated the combined pressure relieving properties of both foam types. I also noticed that the Ultra Deluxe Aircool memory foam mattress mattress did a great job of isolating motion, no matter how many times my 17 lb cat jumped on the bed.

Sizes

The Ultra Deluxe Aircool memory foam mattress comes in 5 sizes, including a Twin Extra Long. It measures 14″ in thickness.

  • Twin (39″W x 75″L)

12 Park Gel pros and cons

ProsCons
Perfect for side sleepers who suffer from chronic painNeeds more firmness options
True memory foam feelNot for heavier individuals
CoolingMattress cover is not removable nor washable
Minimal to no motion transferNo sleep trial

Here’s something for those of us who sleep extra hot.

The 12 Park Ultra Deluxe Gel memory foam mattress in infused with all throughout with cooling gel beads. Gel memory foam was created to help dissipate body heat. Unlike traditional memory foam, gel infused foam is as its name suggests: infused with gel microbeads.

These gel microbeads are specifically designed to keep the body temperature down to allow the sleeper to sleep more comfortably throughout the night. Some mattress brands even utilize a type of medical grade gel that are used in hospital burn units.

Gel memory foam mattresses are a great choice for sleepers who tend to sleep hot and sweat through the night. Because of their somewhat squishy texture, a gel memory foam mattress is also a good mattress for those who prefer a cushier type of mattress.

Who should buy the Ultra Deluxe Gel Memory Foam mattress?

  • Sleepers who tend to give off excess body heat
  • Those who prefer a true memory foam feel
  • Sleepers who suffer from chronic pain such as arthritis
  • Combination and strict side sleepers

Firmness

The Ultra Deluxe Gel memory foam mattress is of a plush firmness level. This means that it falls between an extra soft to soft firmness level. A soft mattress is best for those who sleep strictly on their sides and those who shift constantly between sleeping positions. Strict stomach and back sleepers, however, will not get the support and pressure relief they need if they sleep on a softer than average mattress.

Heavier sleepers would also not get the proper support they would need from an extra soft mattress. Doing so would throw off their spinal alignment, as well as add to whatever aches and pains they may already be experiencing. For this reason, we always recommend hybrid mattresses for sleepers who weigh over 250 lbs.

I do like the extra cuddly feel of this mattress but being a mostly stomach sleeper who likes to delve into combo territory, sleeping on this mattress long term would wreak havoc on my already crooked spine (fun fact: I have scoliosis). I do wish 12 Park offered more firmness options. But this mattress would be a solid choice for strict side sleepers who love extra soft, cuddly beds.

Construction

The right mattress is the mattress that gives you the best sleep of your life and sometimes it’s the simplest ones that can give you just that. Let’s go into more detail.

Made up of only 3 foam layers, the 12 Park Ultra Deluxe Gel memory foam mattress features a graphite infused memory foam top comfort layer that actively disperses body heat while you sleep and keeps it away from the mattress.

An open cell gel memory foam makes up the second comfort layer which also helps wick away heat and keeps the mattress fresh, airy and breathable. These two comfort layers come together to offer a true to form memory foam feel that cradles the body no matter what body shape and helps relieve pressure from all main pressure points. This feels especially yummy to strict side sleepers who suffer from creaky joints and chronic pain.

The final layer is made up of a high density support base form that keeps all the top layers secure and intact. This base layer also reinforces the mattress’ edge support while helping reduce motion transfer.

All these layers are encase in soft, breathable stretch knit poly quilted cover that is sadly, not removable nor washable. 12 Park only recommends to spot clean should any spills or accidents happen. We always, always recommend that you use a mattress protector for every new mattress you acquire.

Sizes

The Ultra Deluxe Gel memory foam mattress comes in only 2 sizes and measures 13″ thick.

  • Queen (60″W x 80″L)
  • King (76″W x 80″L)

Durability

Unfortunately, 12 Park does not offer a sleep trial and you can only purchase 12 Park memory foam mattresses through authorized retailers (we recommend Mattress Firm). They also do not offer a sleep trial but 12 Park does offer a 10 year warranty for every mattress purchase.

There are no shipping costs if the mattress is shipped within the continental US. Mattress Firm may sometimes throw in some great freebies with every mattress purchase – please check their website for more details.

The Ultra Deluxe Gel memory foam mattress currently has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating based on 117 verified reviews. So far, no one has complained about 12 Park’s longevity nor durability.
