It’s true what they say – everything in Australia is large and in charge. Their bed bases are no different, but the Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed is built from an entirely different cloth (think: military grade steel). At first glance, the Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed is unmistakably imposing but is it all bark and no bite? Read on to find out.

Our experience with Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed Base

We weren’t really surprised with how the Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed base performed given how things go in the mighty ‘Straya.

Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed

Made from up to 110 lbs of S235 steel (a low carbon manganese structural steel that’s used in construction of buildings and bridges), the Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed base packs a whole lot of punch (think: the force of 10,000 jacked-up adult male kangaroos).

I mean, why wouldn’t it, considering it’s made of stuff used in buildings.

BUILDINGS.

Let that sink in for a second.

We get more into the nitty gritty down below.

Ease of Setup

I’ll give it to you straight – setting the Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed base is definitely not easy – heck, even carrying it into your house and up to your room will ABSOLUTELY not be easy.

Unlike other bed bases or bed frames that come in one nifty (albeit large) box, the Indestruct bed base comes in separate boxes that are pretty heavy. You need the help of a friend (or, if you’re like me and have chicken arms, enlist the help of 3).

The instruction manual is pretty easy to read and understand but you could still make the mistake of installing the poles and beams upside down (we did) so make sure to lay them all out in proper form as you go along.

The set also comes with its very own screwdriver (and no, you cannot use yours) that’s as big as your arm since each screw is about the size of a dessert plate.

All in all, setting the bed base up for us took around 3 and half hours.

Appearance

The overall appearance of the Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed base is sleek and simple – all cold, hard steel and finished wood.

You get to choose between 3 different wood options (European Ash, European Oak, American Walnut) and 3 different fabric color options ( Charcoal, Stone, Ivory) to suit whatever bedroom aesthetic you prefer.

And while you might think that a bed base that’s made of construction-grade steel might look too big and bulky, think again. There’s no frills and extra, unnecessary accoutrements with the Indestruct bed – each piece is designed with functionality at its forefront.

Construction and Materials

The Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed base is made up of only three materials: steel, wood and fabric.

As we’ve mentioned the steel used in the Indestruct bed base is construction-grade S235 solid steel that can hold an insane amount of weight (like, as we were putting the bed base together, we were sitting on one of the beams with our full body body weight and we never felt we were in any danger of toppling over).

The center beams are made up of Dual C-Spine beams that help with back and spinal alignment (the Twin and Twin XL sizes feature single beams).

The leg and the base itself is made up of solid wood.

The legs are thick and tapered towards the bottom and are made up of solid steel clad in matching timber. All timber-clad legs are available in two different heights and it’s up to you whether you prefer a high-profile bed or a low-profile bed (you also need to factor in your mattress thickness, of course).

The bed base itself is made of 3 different thick wooden slabs that feature laser cut holes that allow for continuous air flow.

The joineries of the Indestruct bed are made up of M-39 Bolt leg assemblies and Tri-Mount locks that help make the entire structure basically adamantine.

Should you choose to have the side panels covered in fabric, the fabric used is gently textured, woven upholstery fabric with a subtle cross-hatched appearance. The same type of fabric is used for the headboard if you opt to get one.

If you choose to have fabric side panels, the wood used is a poplar plywood structure while if you choose the all-wood side panels, the wood used is hard wearing timber with a solid Beechwood core with a matching timber veneer made from European Oak, European Ash and American Walnut.

All the wood used in the Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

Durability

There’s no question on the Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed base’s durability.

I mean, how can you question construction-grade steel that’s actually used for buildings and bridges?

The Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed base can hold up to 5000 lbs of weight, imagine that. And while we do not recommend you use the bed base to its full capacity (I mean, what are you going to do, cram 50 people on top of a 1000 pound mattress?), just knowing that it can hold an insane amount of weight is comforting and reassuring in a way.

Mattress Compatibility

The Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed base is compatible with most mattresses except for adjustable mattresses.

Sizes

  • Twin
  • Twin XL
  • Full
  • Queen
  • King
  • California King

Cost

While some people may consider over a thousand dollars for a Queen-sized bed base to be a little steep,  the Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed base is definitely worth more than its value.

Like we always say, there’s a lot of things you can skimp on but where you lay your head should not be one of them.

Warranty

The Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed comes with a lifetime warranty and its components such as the side panels and headboards come with a 12 month limited warranty.

Sleeping Duck reiterates that the warranty length should not be confused with the lifespan of the product.

Return Policy and Sleep Trial

You get a 100 night sleep trial with the Sleeping Duck Indestruct bed base which means you get 100 nights to return the Indestruct bed base in case you find that you do not like the product.

Should you decide that you want to return the product, you can initiate the return process by contacting the Sleeping Duck customer service team through either phone, email or the live chat function on their official website.

About Sleeping Duck

Headquartered in Australia, Sleeping Duck was founded by two Melbourne-based engineering students who decided to create a bed using construction-grade steel that’s basically indestructible.

The Indestruct bed is the only product that Sleeping Duck carries in their US website. It has won multiple awards and has been featured on Shark Tank.

In their native Australia, Sleeping Duck also offers mattresses and bedding aside from their Indestruct bed base. Hopefully they start carrying those in their US website too.

Conclusion

The Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed is by far the sturdiest bed base we’ve ever tried.

Made from construction-grade steel, the Indestruct bed can hold up to 5000 lbs of weight and no amount of movement can ever turn it loose or wobbly.

The Indestruct Bed would be the perfect bed for couples or for heavyweight sleepers who prefer a sleek-looking and durable bed that can last a very long time.
