Our experience with the Origin Adapt Hybrid Mattress
While it does not really compare to its bigger and more feature-heavy big brother, we were still quite happy with how the Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress performed.
Made up of a combination of bamboo-infused memory foam, organic wool, graphite cooling foam and up to 2040+ spring coils, the Origin Adapt Hybrid also features Origin’s unique Orthopedic HexaGrid – a special type of foam that’s made up of a blend of polymers and cooling gels that offer extra support and pressure relief.
The Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress also features Origin’s very own SmartClimate Cooling technology which helps draw heat away from the mattress surface leaving you with a cooler sleeping experience all throughout.
Alas, there is one very notable drawback to the Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress and that is its firmness – due to its firmer feel, it will only be suitable for those who sleep strictly on their backs and stomachs.
Firmness
The Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress sits on an 8 on the mattress firmness scale which gives it a pretty firm feel.
Firmer mattresses can only pressure relief for strict back and stomach sleepers because they help with proper spinal alignment.
Strict side sleepers though will feel uncomfortable on a firmer mattress like the Origin Adapt Hybrid since it would eat into their main pressure points.
Being a hybrid mattress, the Origin Adapt Hybrid is also able to provide extra support for heavier-set people.
Cooling
We rate the Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
There is more than one type of cooling material in the Origin Hybrid Adapt mattress.
There’s the bamboo-infused memory foam, the graphite cooling foam, and layer of moisture-wicking wool.
But the main cooling feature of the Origin Adapt Hybrid is the mattress cover that features Origin’s SmartClimate Cooling technology, which helps draw heat away from the mattress surface.
Motion Isolation
We rate the Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress a 6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
For a mattress that’s quite firm, we found the Origin Adapt Hybrid to be pretty springy when we tried it out with a partner.
We actually felt each and every movement.
This could be an issue especially if you’re a light sleeper and you share a bed with someone who tosses and turns while they sleep.
Edge Support
We rate the Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress a 9 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
This is one of the areas wherein the Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress shines.
With the combination of the coil unit which provides edge to edge support, the Origin Adapt Hybrid also features reinforced side edges for even more edge support.
You won’t be in any danger of rolling off the bed (even if you sleep on the edge).
Pressure Relief/Comfort
We rate the Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress an 8 out of 10 for back and stomach sleepers when it comes to pressure relief and a 5 out of 10 for side sleepers.
If it weren’t for its firmer feel, we would have scored it higher for side sleepers but as we’ve mentioned, firmer mattresses do not bode well for any side sleeper’s main pressure points.
For stomach and back sleepers however, the Origin Adapt Hybrid offers outstanding pressure relief thanks to its combination of memory foam, graphite foam, coil unit and HexaGrid.
The Orthopedic HexaGrid is a foam blend that contains polymers and cooling gels that provide zoned support that moves when you do, offering all-over support and comfort.
Construction
There are 7 layers to the Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress.
All these layers come encased in a patented SnowTencel cover that also helps do away with heat retention.
The first layer is made up of a SnowTencel pillowtop that once again, helps with cooling as well as adding a layer of slight plushness to the bed.
The second layer is made up of premium organic wool that not only helps with thermo-regulation but also acts as a natural fire barrier as well.
Right below that lies the bamboo-infused memory foam that’s open-celled which means it won’t retain any heat (as memory foam is wont to do).
The fourth layer is made up of the Orthopedic HexaGrid which provides zoned support as well as additional cooling.
The fifth layer is made up of graphite-infused cooling latex foam that offers additional responsive support. Latex is already naturally cooling but the addition of graphite elevates it to provide even better cooling abilities. Latex is also naturally hypoallergenic, making the Origin Adapt Hybrid a good choice for those who suffer from chronic allergies.
The coil unit comes next and it is made up of up to 2040+ individually-wrapped steel springs. This layer provides even more responsive support and helps prevent sagging.
The base layer is made up of high-density foam that helps hold all the upper layers together. It also provides stability and durability.
Durability
Origin wouldn’t be where they are right now if not for their premium quality mattresses.
So suffice it to say that the Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress will last you a very long time especially with proper care and maintenance.
