How the Nectar Mattress Return Policy Works

Reddit’s most unpopular mattress, the Nectar mattress, (what an introduction!) happens to be the most returned mattress in some stores, based on the “anecdotal evidence” of a mattress store salesman who decided to share the info with me.

Nectar also has fiberglass, which is something you should take into consideration.

Whether you’re a Nectar mattress lover or hater, it’s not a bad idea to get acquainted with their return policies and how the whole process works.

How to return a Nectar mattress

All you have to do to return a Nectar mattress is call their customer service team at +1 (888) 425-4854 and initiate the process.

You can also contact Nectar customer service over the chat on their website (I recommend this option) and they send customers a link to fill out a form.

Not long after, you’ll get contacted by someone about the return of your Nectar mattress.

You’ll have to submit photos of the mattress and mattress tags to get the return approved.

Then Nectar will schedule a date and time through their pick-up company, whose representative is supposed to contact you within 3-5 business days. Pickup time depends on the partner company and not Nectar, and it can be within a few days to a few weeks from when they contact you.

After taking the mattress, they’ll give you a receipt that you need to send to Nectar as evidence that you returned the Nectar mattress.

Nectar trial period and return window

Unopened mattresses must be returned within the first 30 days of delivery.

You get a free 365-night trial period, which means that you can use your Nectar mattress for an entire year before returning it.

This makes sense because of the break-in period which lasts for about two months (the mattress breaks in and gets more comfortable), and then you can sleep a few months more until you finally decide if you want to keep it.

The return window doesn’t start as soon as you get the mattress.

You need to open it, let it expand, and use it.

You can return it after you’ve used it for 30 days; so your return window within the mattress free trial period is from day 30 until day 365 after receiving it.

When do you receive your refund?

You get your money back 3-5 business days after you submit proof that the mattress was picked up from you.

The refund process really depends on the pickup company, because once they take it, you can get refunded.

This means you can’t get refunded right after the initial phone call.

Don’t hope for that.

The mattress has to go back to Nectar, or, if you’re donating yourself, you need to obtain evidence of the donation. Only then can you get a refund, and you get paid in the original payment method.

As for the promotional freebies that they like to include, Nectar gives totally opposing info on the website:

The value of all promotional items included with your mattress purchase will not be deducted from the total value of the mattress return

And then this:

Once the products have been returned and if such products fulfill the terms and conditions herein, you will be refunded the entire amount paid for such products less the value of (i) any offer code or other discounts, (ii) any included promotional products, (iii) fees for shipping, and/or (iv) fees for White Glove Services.

I know of some people who went through the second scenario. So, you basically buy a mattress from Nectar, they may “show appreciation” by giving you a few gifts, like a couple of free pillows.

You dislike the bed and start the return process for the unwanted mattress when you realize they’ll keep the money for the pillows. So, they still got you to buy something from them.

Sounds scammy to me.

Return fees

The returns are free if they are within the trial period and if you don’t void the Nectar warranty. Otherwise, you might have to pay $50 worth of shipping fees.

Exclusions

It’s rare to get a full refund because Nectar has many tricks here. They will not refund the promotional items, shipping, White Glove service, and state-based recycling fees.

During the trial period, you should use and treat the mattress appropriately and make sure it doesn’t get stained or damaged.

The mattress cover should remain on the mattress (do not remove it for warranty reasons, but also because you’ll release fiberglass from the mattress), and also make sure the cover doesn’t get torn.

If you hate your new mattress, you definitely don’t want to get denied a return for a thing like that, so you might want to get a mattress protector or buy Nectar’s extended warranty which protects you from yellow stains and other similar signs of damage.

There are other things that can void the Nectar warranty, such as environmental causes of mattress damage and you not being the first owner of the mattress.

How Nectar mattress exchanges work

If you want a different one, you can replace your Nectar mattress with a new mattress within the trial period. The exchange process goes through the returns.

You have two options – you can purchase a new model right away (or at any other time), and get refunded through the original purchase method, or you can first wait to get refunded (that is, to receive credits) and then use these means to pay for a different mattress.

Which Nectar products can be returned?

So, mattresses can be returned, and any freebies that came with it can also be returned if you wish to return them.

But what if you buy those items separately, or if you buy blankets, nightstands, or a platform?

All returnable items have a 50-day return window, and apart from mattresses, no other items have a lifetime guarantee.

Nectar platform, adjustable base, foundation, and bed frames all have to be returned within that time, so bear in mind that there’s a big discrepancy in return widows between Nectar mattresses (365 days) and these items (50 days) if, for any reason, you end up wishing to return both.

Nectar pillow return policy

Nectar pillows can be returned.

You have 50 days to return yours, and the countdown starts once it’s delivered to you. The pillow can be used, but it must be clean and undamaged.

Nectar sheets return policy

Nectar sheets can only be returned if unopened.

You also have 50 days to return them. If they are opened, you can’t return them or get a refund.

Nectar blankets return policy

If you bought a Nectar blanket, you can only return it unopened and within 50 days.

Nectar mattress protector return policy

Nectar mattress protectors are only returnable within 50 days of delivery and only if unopened and in the original packaging.

Just like sheets, used protectors are not eligible for returns or refunds.

Nectar adjustable base return policy

You get a standard return window of 50 days for the Nectar adjustable base.

It comes with a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Nectar foundation return policy

Nectar foundation has a 3-year warranty and if you wish to return it after purchase, you have 50 days to do so.

Nectar bed frame with headboard return policy

Nectar bed frame with headboard is eligible for a return within 50 days of delivery and Nectar offers a 3-year warranty.

Nectar metal bed frame return policy

The metal bed frames are also returnable for 50 days and come with a 3-year warranty.

Nectar platform bed return policy

Nectar platform beds have a 50-day return window and a 3-year warranty.

Why do people complain about the Nectar return policy?

Some customers complained about not being contacted by a Nectar customer service representative for a long time after filling out the return form for their new Nectar mattress.

Others didn’t like having to take photos of the mattress. Sometimes the sag is not easily visible in photos, and a Nectar customer service team member might ask a customer to put a heavy object on the mattress and this way prove that the mattress sags more than normal upon pressure.

I’ve seen many such photos on Reddit; it’s funny but weird.

Another cause of grievance is the long wait time for the pick-up company.

Some people hated that their return or refund was declined because the mattress was stained as they weren’t aware that Nectar viewed this as damage which automatically disqualifies the mattress.
