Our Experience with the Maxtrix 5-Inch Premium Twin Memory Foam Mattress Review
The Maxtrix 5-Inch Memory Foam Mattress is one of the best kids’ mattresses that we’ve tried so far. It’s made with cooling gel memory foam and it has a medium-firm feel that suits most children regardless of their sleeping style. To test out this kids mattress, we brought in my eight-year-old nephew to tell us how the mattress feels for him.
We asked him to lie on the mattress and to switch from side, back, and stomach positions. He felt comfortable and well-supported in all positions and the gel memory foam top layer gave him a nice hugging feeling.
Based on my nephew’s experience while lying on it, we rated this kids mattress 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale which is just a touch softer than medium-firm (6.5). I tried the mattress out as well but for me it felt like a 5 out of 10 (medium-soft). For reference, I’m a pretty lean guy who weighs 160 lbs and is 6’2″.
After having a kid try it out, we found that this mattress could support a child who weighs up to 150 lbs. Medium-firm mattresses such as this one are super popular for a reason. They are neither too soft or too firm; and they’re just right for most children and different sleeper types.
But if you’re looking for a mattress for adults or couples, this isn’t a good option. We recommend that a mattress should be at least 10-12 inches thick to give most adults the right level of comfort and support. If you have younger kids (below 13 years old), the Maxtrix 5-inch memory foam mattress is going to be comfortable regardless of their sleeping positions. Most children are combination sleepers who switch between their side and their back. This Maxtrix mattress is great for each of these positions and its gel memory foam comfort layer will gently cradle your kids’ bodies and relieve pressure from their joints.
Additionally, the gel memory foam layer absorbs body heat which is great for kids who sleep hot at night. Unlike traditional memory foam which is known for trapping body heat, the Maxtrix Twin Memory Foam Mattress uses cooling gel memory foam which provides better temperature regulation.
Although we know that this mattress is too thin and small for couples, we just have to mention how good it is at isolating motion. The gel memory foam top layer is excellent at isolating motion on one side of the bed and preventing cross-mattress motion transfer.
The only drawback of this mattress is that it’s too thin to support children who are heavier than average. 1 in 5 children are overweight in the US and these kids need a thicker mattress that’s made with more supportive materials such as pocketed coils.
