What does the Ikea warranty cover?

ikea mattress with lifetime warranty

The Ikea mattress warranty covers manufacturing defects in material and workmanship for all Ikea mattresses except for sleeper sofa mattresses (sofa bed mattresses), children’s mattresses (including crib mattresses), the Jomna mattress, mattress toppers and mattress pads.

The Ikea mattress warranty covers:

  • Split seams
  • Damaged and broken springs
  • Broken handles
  • Broken mattress base
  • Substantial sagging not caused by normal wear and tear

All of Ikea’s mattresses are tested for strength and durability by a machine that simulates the movements of a 140 kg. person rolling around in bed 50,000 times. Ikea then uses a pressure gauge to ensure the strength of springs in spring mattresses. They also use a pressure gauge to measure the effect on frames, slats and other fillings.

Ikea mattress warranties do not offer a full refund. They will either repair or replace your defective mattress.

Replacement terms

  • Ikea will repair or replace the damaged Ikea mattress with the same or similarly priced product. An appropriate replacement means if your damaged item is one of Ikea’s memory foam mattresses and the exact same one is unavailable for any reason (or no longer sold), a similar memory foam mattress will be its replacement.
  • Should Ikea decide to repair the damaged Ikea mattress, Ikea will cover the costs of repair, spare parts, labor and travel provided that the item is located in a place where there is also an Ikea store and service center.
  • Replaced parts or items will not be returned to you and shall be kept by your local Ikea store.

Exclusions

  • Ikea will not honor any claims made without the original purchase receipt. This is non-negotiable. If you do not have the original purchase receipt, then a warranty claim is not possible. You must also be the original purchaser – an Ikea mattress warranty is non-transferrable.
  • Ikea’s mattress warranty does not cover damages caused by normal wear and tear, cuts or scratches, spots and stains caused by improper use of the mattress.
  • The Ikea mattress warranty does not cover damages caused by using the mattress outdoors or in a very humid environment.
  • Ikea’s mattress warranty does not apply to mattresses that have been installed or used incorrectly. This includes improper use, not using a correct and supportive bed frame, mattresses that have been altered or tampered with in any way as well as mattresses that have been cleaned using improper methods and/or cleaning products.
  • The Ikea mattress warranty does not cover consequential or incidental damage. Although, some US states may waive this exclusion so be sure to check with your local Ikea store to confirm.
  • Ikea mattresses that have been used for other purposes (i.e. commerical) other than residential will also not be covered under the mattress warranty.

Ikea warranty length

All Ikea mattresses have a 10-year limited warranty except for children’s mattresses, crib mattresses, the Jomna mattress, mattress toppers and mattress pads.

The 10-year limited warranty begins from the date of purchase which should be clearly shown on the original receipt.

The 10-year limited warranty then remains in place and valid from then.

How to make a claim

To make a warranty claim with Ikea, you must have your proof of purchase which is your original purchase receipt. If bought online, a valid invoice and receipt would have been sent to your email address, you can print it out and present it.

Always make sure that you are still within the 10 year limit from the date of purchase before making any claim. Once you are past the 10 year mark, the mattress warranty is then considered null and void.

You can either call Ikea through their customer service contact numbers or go directly to any one of Ikea stores near you to file a warranty claim. Aside from the original receipt, please mare sure to bring a valid, government-issued photo ID.

FAQs

How long will an Ikea mattress last?

An Ikea mattress is built to last for 10 years. Most mattresses, even those from other brands, have a lifespan of 8-10 years. The Ikea mattress warranty covers just that amount of time.

Does sagging count as a manufacturing defect?

Mattress sagging that happens immediately after purchase does count as a manufacturing defect and will be covered under the mattress warranty. Slight sagging that is caused by years of use and normal wear and tear does not count as a manufacturing defect.

Is it possible to return an Ikea mattress without a receipt?

It is not possible to return an Ikea mattress without an original purchase receipt. Ikea will not honor any warranty claims made without an original receipt.

Conclusion

Like most mattress warranties, Ikea’s mattress warranty covers material and workmanship defects incurred during the manufacturing process. Even though Ikea has a stringent testing policy for all of their mattresses, defective products may still slip through quality control and make their way into your home.

Filing a warranty claim with Ikea is an easy and seamless process as long as you are the original purchaser and you still have the original receipt.
