Whether you’re moving to a new place or just redesigning your bedroom, a bed frame is always going to be a central piece. You’re planning on getting one but you have no idea about a bed frame’s price range. Fortunately, I’ve spent countless hours researching the price points of all the popular bed frame brands on the market. Read the full article below to find out how much a bed frame costs!
How much does a bed frame cost according to size?
Although bed frame prices differ by size, it’s usually only by small margins. Some full and queen sized beds are even priced the same, while king sized beds are slightly more expensive.
Below, I’ll give you an average price range per bed frame size. Keep in mind that this is only going to be a general range and that prices will differ depending on the type of bed frame and its materials.
Twin bed frame cost
The average twin bed frame cost ranges from $75 to $100.
This is for bed frames that have good quality and great value for money. There are some brands that offer cheaper models, and others that have more expensive premium bed frames, most notably zero gravity beds. The Amerisleep Adjustable Base is a good example of a zero gravity bed.
Full-size bed frame cost
Full-size beds typically cost $100 to $200 depending on the brand.
They are also similarly priced to queen-sized bed frames, especially if you buy one from IKEA.
Queen bed frame cost
Most queen bed frames are around the $150 to $250 price range.
This is mostly for metal bed frames as wooden bed frames are priced a bit higher.
King-size bed frame cost
Usually the biggest size offered by many brands, king-size bed frame will cost you around $250 to $1000 and up.
I should mention that these prices do not include the extremely cheap and insanely expensive ends of the bed frame spectrum. If you’re looking for a high-quality bed frame that will offer lasting support, check our best bed frame list for our top recommendations.

What determines the average cost of a bed frame?
The average cost of a bed frame is determined by its type, sizes, and materials. I’ll be discussing each of these factors in better detail below.
Type
There are two main types of bed frames: wood or metal. A metal bed frame is almost always cheaper than a solid wood bed frame. Although metal bed frames are more affordable, they also eventually start squeaking (low-cost models) after about a year of regular use.
Wood bed frames are generally more durable and are less prone to squeaking. If you’re going to choose between a cheap metal bed frame and a reasonably-priced wooden bed frame, we recommend the latter for better durability and value.
Also, a bed frame with supportive wooden slats also eliminates the need for a box spring. Just a bonus tip for you guys.
Sizes
The six standard bed frame (and mattress) sizes are twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and california king. As I’ve mentioned in the previous section of the article, prices will be higher the bigger size you get.
However, the price difference between sizes is usually not that big. Twin bed frames are the cheapest, while King and California king-size frames are the costliest.
Materials
You already know about the two main types of bed frames which are wood and metal, right? In addition to that, you should know that the materials used can still differ within those two types. For example, metal frames can be made with aluminum or iron; whereas wooden bed frames can be made with oak or maple.
The difference in the quality of the material type used is a huge factor in the price of a bed frame.
FAQs
Yes, buying a bed frame offers several benefits such as sturdy support and protection from allergens and insects while you sleep.
It is cheaper to make a DIY bed frame but it requires basic carpentry skills and acquisition of materials to use in the construction.
Sometimes mattress brands will offer packages that include both a bed frame and a mattress. However, most bed frame brands will only sell bed frames on their own.
A good-quality custom-made bed frame will cost upwards of $500.
Conclusion
The main factors that affect the price of a bed frame are type, size, and materials. There are plenty of choices on the market so make sure to choose one that fits your needs and preferences. Remember, metal bed frames are cheaper but less durable; and wooden bed frames are costlier but have more longevity.
