The Summit Hybrid is apparently Glacier Sleep’s most popular mattress, probably due to the fact that it is the only mattress in their lineup that can accommodate all sleeper types (hence why I call it the “Goldilocks mattress”). But is it really worth it? Read on to see if it’s a mattress you should buy or just another brand you should pass on.

Glacier Summit Hybrid Review and Performance Test Results

Pros

  • Suitable for most sleeper types
  • Pressure relieving and responsive
  • Fiberglass-free
  • Offers zoned support

Cons

  • Edge support could be better
  • Slight off-gassing

Our experience with the Glacier Summit Hybrid Mattress

Built similarly to Glacier’s other mattresses – the Apex Hybrid and the Original Hybrid (give or take a few proprietary foam layers) – the Summit Hybrid features a robust coil unit along with layers of proprietary memory foam alternatives that are infused with graphite.

The Summit Hybrid features the same GlacierTECH Elite cooling mattress cover as its counterparts, which means it sleeps cool enough for those who tend to sleep hot.

Another thing I liked about the Summit Hybrid is that it absorbs a good amount of cross-mattress movement, making it a good choice for those who share a bed.

Firmness

glacier summit hybrid firmness guide

The Glacier Summit Hybrid mattress sits on a 5.5 on the mattress firmness scale giving it a medium feel that skews slightly firm.

This makes it suitable for most sleeper types except for very petite side sleepers who may find the mattress to be a bit too firm.

Being a hybrid mattress, the Glacier Summit Hybrid can accommodate heavier-set individuals.

Cooling Test

We rate the Glacier Summit Hybrid a 7.5 out of 10 when it comes to temperature regulation.

Although not the best cooling mattress that I’ve tried, the Summit Hybrid still did a pretty good job of keeping heat retention at bay thanks to its actively cooling materials such as Glacier Sleep’s very own CarbonICE graphite-infused memory foam and GalcierTECH Elite cooling cover.

Motion Transfer Test

We rate the Glacier Summit Hybrid a 7 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Using a bowling ball to test the motion transfer…

Unlike the other mattresses among Glacier Sleep’s lineup, the Glacier Summit Hybrid contains only three layers of proprietary foam.

Sure, it absorbed some motion transfer when I tried the mattress out with a partner, but the mattress is slightly bouncier than I would have liked.

You will experience a significant amount of cross mattress movement if you share a bed with a partner that’s heavier than you.

Edge Support Test

We rate the Glacier Summit Hybrid a 7 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Testing out the edge support on the Summit Hybrid…

The Glacier Summit Hybrid features reinforced edges all along its perimeter and once again, I have to say that although the mattress did an okay job, it’s not the best – you do get to utilize the entire mattress surface but you’ll find yourself sinking in a bit when you sit on the edge.

Pressure Relief Test

We rate the Glacier Summit Hybrid an 8 out of 10 when it comes to pressure relief and comfort.

I was impressed by the Summit Hybrid’s pressure relief capabilities

The graphite-infused memory foam, adaptive memory foam and ARCFlow foam layers all work together to provide contouring and compression that does not at all make you feel like you’re being swallowed up by the bed.

Construction

The Glacier Summit Hybrid is made up of four layers.

These layers come encased in a GlacierTECH Elite cooling cover that also features a quilted pillow top for extra plushness.

The Summit Hybrid is made up of four different layers…

The first comfort layer is made up of graphite-infused memory foam that helps provide pressure relief as well as lumbar support.

The second layer is made up of gel-infused memory foam that provides contouring and compression.

The transition layer is made up of a high density foam that features a ventilated design that helps provide responsive support while simultaneously allowing air to flow freely for better temperature regulation.

The coil unit is made up of individually-wrapped coils that provide targeted support in all areas of the body that need it the most such as the shoulders, hips and back.

Durability

The Glacier Summit Hybrid is made out of good quality materials that can stand the test of time with proper mattress care and maintenance.

Conclusion

The Glacier Summit Hybrid is a mattress that seemingly ticks all the boxes but also doesn’t really stand out in any way.
