ExoGun is one of the numerous massage guns which have flooded the market in the past two years. They have caught the eye of athletes, people who work out only occasionally, those who want to lose weight, have muscular pain/stiffness, or problems sleeping.
The ExoGun massage gun has more speed settings than its counterparts, is not loud, has a battery made to last long, and features an LCD screen. Yet, there are some quite strong reasons why the ExoGun DreamPro didn’t make it to our Best Massage Guns list.
Let’s start off with some pros and cons of this product.

ExoGun Features
Speeds. ExoGun is superior with six speed settings which range from 1200 (lowest) to 3200 (highest) percussions per minute. That equals to a range between 20Hz for the lowest setting to 53Hz for the highest. The stroke length is 16mm.
It gives more power than most massage guns on the market. However, if you’re a petite person with not much muscle mass, you probably don’t need this much power and could be happy with cheaper guns as well.
Attachments. ExoGun has four attachments, which is not impressive as a lot of the competing brands have more than that. The most versatile attachment is the sphere as you can use it on shoulders, back, arms, legs, etc. The one with a pointed end provides a better deep tissue massage and you can use it on areas with thick muscles. The flat end better for areas with flat muscles like the chest, but it can also be good for legs and shoulders. The two-pronged one is for muscles on the spine or neck – the prongs massage both sides of the spine at the same time.
Unfortunately, the company doesn’t sell the product with an actual user manual, so every user is left to figure out how to use each attachment.
Sound. ExoGun is often praised for being quieter than the competition. When on low setting, its brushless motor is super quiet, but when on max, it reaches up to 70dB. This sound level equals to moderate freeway traffic or a noisy restaurant – it is not harmful to your ears and you probably have some home appliances which sound similarly.
Battery. The battery lasts for 4 hours of continuous work. This means you could go for 1-2 months of use on one charge. That is, if your battery and charger turn out to work (please read on for the ExoGun Bad Reviews section).
LCD Screen. This is a big plus that most guns don’t have – you call use the diplay to see battery level and the strength level.
How To Use ExoGun
Make sure that your gun has enough battery life. To check battery, tap the “On” button once and you’ll see the screen. If the number is 99, the battery is full. Press “On” once more to get the device working. From this point, every time you press “On” you’ll increase the strength level. To turn off, press and hold.
Press ExoGun against the muscle, but not too much. Don’t dig in, just let it massage the surface. You can apply pressure of up to 60lb. If you go further, the gun will automatically stop to prevent injury. However, 60lb may be too much for you if you’re sensitive, so it’s better to listen to your own body than to rely on the machine. Start with low settings and less pressure, and after several sessions, you’ll probably know what works for you.
You can use the gun on bare skin or over thin clothes. It will work equally well.
You’ll notice your skin getting pinkish pretty soon and should switch to a different area soon.

When to Use the ExoGun
Relaxation and sleep. Percussion massage relieves tension that was building in muscles the entire day (or longer). Once the muscles get relaxed, your nervous system picks up that information, and as a result, you’re likely to feel relaxed psychologically. Tension relief can make it easier to fall asleep, and although there haven’t been many studies, the ones we have today show us very promising results for improved sleep quality after the participants used a percussion gun for massage.
Warmup. You can use ExoGun to assist you with warmup prior to exercise. You can massage only those muscles that you’re about to use the most. For example, if it’s your leg day, you can go ahead and massage your thighs, calves, etc. The increased muscle flexibility and blood flow in the area may prevent injury. Please note that ExoGun can’t replace your regular warmup and stretching.
Recovery. ExoGun is also a great choice for recovery after exercises and sore muscles. Lactic acid builds up when we exercise and it causes muscle soreness. The percussions reach into the deep tissue and speed up the release of lactic acid from your muscles.
Rehabilitation. In some situations, a massage gun may help rehabilitate after some types of injury – but you should not try it on your own. Make sure your doctor or physical trainer approves of this rehab method. The increased blood flow should help heal muscles, recover any atrophied muscles, and improve flexibility and range of motion.
Pain. The ExoGun can help with a variety of localized pain problems, like tennis elbow, computer neck, shoulder, or knee pain. Massaging the painful areas can result in anything from short-term relief help to actual long-term improvement in motion and healing. The increased blood flow can also beneficial for areas with arthritis in some users.
Weight loss and cellulite. Percussion, deep tissue, blood flow – three words that already sound like success if you’re fighting against the excess of fat and cellulite. The truth is, ExoGun can help in both cases, but only if paired with proper diet and exercise. The gun can help speed up the process and help new blood vessels form. These vessels will then do their part in removing the pockets of stored fat.
Scar tissue. Percussions from the massage gun can break scar tissue from injuries or surgeries and increase the mobility of the area, relieving strain. You shouldn’t use it too soon after an injury or surgery as it may reopen the wound or cause severe problems, so make sure your doctor approves of ExoGun for this purpose.
When Not To Use ExoGun
Avoid the ExoGun if it causes bruising or you are one of the people whose blood vessels easily rupture (causing bruises).
If you’re taking blood thinners, avoid using Exogun.
You should also avoid any massage guns on:
- Strained muscles
- Sprains (stretched or torn ligaments)
- Areas with inflammation
- Broken bones
- Areas with cancer
Be careful if you have any problems with blood pressure, blood vessels, heart, muscular dystrophy, bone degeneration, fibromyalgia, or arthritis.
Don’t use ExoGun on areas other than muscles, such as bones, ligaments, or joints.

ExoGun Bad Reviews
The internet is full of positive ExoGun reviews. You may have read articles or watched videos made by people who received their ExoGuns for free just to review them. They all have words of praise. But if you peek into the comment section, you’ll see dozens of comments from unsatisfied customers. They mainly complain about:
- Slow shipping
- Bad charger or gun won’t charge
- Item working for the first day/month before breaking (and it won’t charge)
- Gun holds a charge for a few seconds/minutes
- Unresponsive/slow customer support
- Long correspondence with customer support that led nowhere (customer support may ask numerous questions and request photos and videos as proof that the gun isn’t working)
For these reasons, numerous customers had reason to believe the whole ExoGun thing is a scam. It is actually not, but the company does have poor customer support management and about 30% of customers receive a faulty product. That’s too much risk for $159.
The company should invest in improving the battery and charger quality because everything else about it is well made – the motor, the ergonomics, the screen, the strength, and the attachments.
About ExoGun
ExoGun website doesn’t have an “About Us” page and the only information we were able to dig out was that they are headquartered in Hong Kong. Considering the reputation they’ve gained online from actual users (not counting sponsored videos and blogposts), the lack of company information may be an additional reason to skip this product.
