PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Performance

Our team gave the Botanical Bliss Medium version a 5 and the Medium-Firm version a 6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale.

With these results, we recommend this mattress for all sleeper types and we found that it works best for side and back combination sleepers.

Not familiar with the firmness ratings? Read our article on the mattress firmness scale.

We rate it at an 8.9 out of 10 for cooling.

The organic wool layer worked wonders! It doesn’t only keep you cool, it also helps you sleep warm when it’s cold. Not only that, this layer also acts as the mattress’ fire barrier making it completely fiberglass-free.

In terms of pressure relief, we gave the Botanical Bliss a 9.4 out of 10.

It was really comfortable to sleep on and I felt that my body weight was evenly distributed across the mattress. This is very important because this helps alleviate any tension around your hips and lower back. But then again, it doesn’t quite offer the same level of body contouring as a cradling memory foam mattress.

The Botanical Bliss got an 9.2 out of 10 for motion isolation.

This mattress has good motion isolation but this might not be the case for heavier-set sleepers. Because it’s made with bouncy natural latex, we did experience a bit of motion transfer especially when I tested it with one of my heavier colleagues.

For edge support, we gave the Botanical Bliss a 9.5 out of 10.

The edge support in this mattress is pretty solid. Its all-latex construction did a great job of supporting my body weight even when I was lying close the edge of the bed. However, I did sink just a little bit when I switched from lying to sitting.

Overall, we give the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss a 9.25 out of 10 when it comes to performance.

Bear Elite Hybrid performance

The Bear Elite Hybrid mattress comes in three different firmness levels: Soft, Medium, and Firm.

Our team tested the Medium model and we gave it a rating of 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. Whereas, the Soft version would sit between a 4-5 and the Firm model is closer to a 7 or 7.5 out of 10.

After testing all firmness models, I can say that this mattress is super versatile because it can accommodate most individuals regardless of body weight and sleeping position.

We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9.5 when it comes to cooling.

Yes, it’s true that memory foam beds are notorious for their heat retention, but the Elite Hybrid is a pleasant exception. We didn’t feel any body heat getting trapped as we were lying on the mattress. It might be the best cooling mattress in this list.

We believe that the Elite Hybrid is one of the best mattresses for body pain and back pain specifically which garners it a rating of a 9.8 for pressure relief.

Its plush memory foam layer cradled my joints and relieved pressure from my shoulders and lower back. In addition, the coil system offers zoned support which really helped me maintain a neutral spinal alignment.

We rated the motion isolation on the Elite Hybrid 9.4 out of 10.

Despite its hybrid construction, the Elite Hybrid performed very well in our motion isolation test. Its combination of individually wrapped coils and memory foam seemed to work great at limiting motion transfer. Sleeping with a restless partner? This mattress is an excellent option.

In terms of edge support, we gave the Elite Hybrid a 9.2.

We tried sleeping near the edge of the bed and we felt just as supported as sleeping in the middle of the mattress. In short, this Bear mattress has excellent, solid edge support.

Overall, we give the Bear Elite Hybrid 9.5 out of 10.

Available in two heights and three different firmness levels, the Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress that’s made to cater to your unique needs no matter what your preferred sleeping position may be.

Saatva Classic performance

The Saatva Classic firmness levels are as follows: Plush Soft (4), Luxury Firm (6.5-7), and Firm (8).

Although each version is suited for different individuals, we found all three versions to have a bouncy, responsive feel.

We gave the Saatva Classic an 8.9 out of 10 for cooling.

We found the mattress to be temperature-neutral when we tried it out. It does not contain any active cooling materials but its coil system promotes continuous airflow throughout the mattress.

In terms of pressure relief, we gave the mattress a 9.2 out of 10.

Although we did get some cushioning and pressure relief from the bed’s Euro pillow top, it didn’t provide the same contouring as soft memory foam mattresses.

The Saatva Classic scored an 8.7 out of 10 on motion isolation.

We experienced a tiny bit of motion transfer which is likely due to its bouncy coils. If you sleep with a partner who switches sleeping positions often, the Saatva Classic might not be the best choice.

The Saatva Classic scored a 9.8 on our edge support test.

This mattress has excellent edge support. I did not experience any sinkage while lying on the edge of bed.

The Saatva Classic mattress got an overall score of 9.1 out of 10.

Nolah Evolution 15 performance

Since it’s offered in three different firmness levels, the Evolution 15 mattress can work for all body types and sleeping positions.

We rated its versions from Plush (5) to Firm (8). We recommend the Plush and Luxury Firm models for most average-weight individuals, and the firmer mattress model for plus size sleepers.

We gave the Nolah Evolution 15 a cooling score of 9.3 out of 10.

The Nolah Evolution’s cover is quite cool to the touch. This is because it’s quilted with an HTC (high thermal conductivity) Euro topper that helps absorb body heat. The mattress also features AirFoamICE™ which is a graphite-infused memory foam to further aid in temperature regulation.

In terms of pressure relief, we gave the Evolution 15 a 9.7.

We experienced a lot of pressure relief and support while lying on the Evolution 15 mattress. It’s 15 inches thick and it has several layers of contouring memory foam to alleviate any tension in your body.

We gave the Evolution a 9.6 for motion isolation.

We experienced little to no motion transfer on this mattress. We highly recommend it for couples because its memory foam layers and individually encased coils work together to keep isolate motion on one side of the bed.

As for edge support, we gave the Evolution 15 a 9.2 out of 10.

We felt well-supported while lying near the edges of the bed. The Evolution 15’s solid edge support is due to the reinforced coils around the edges of the mattress.

The Nolah Evolution 15 mattress got an overall score of 9.4 out of 10.

Naturepedic EOS Classic performance

Since it’s fully customizable, the Naturepedic EOS Classic mattress is suitable for all body types and sleeping positions including strict side sleepers

It’s offered in the following firmness levels: Plush, Medium, Cushion Firm, Firm, and Extra Firm.

While this is very impressive, the highlight for us is the split firmness levels for the queen-size, king, and California King models.

The option of choosing different comfort layers for each side of the mattress makes the EOS Classic a godsend for couples with varying firmness preferences.

We gave the EOS Classic a cooling score of 9.3 out of 10.

We found the EOS Classic to be a great cooling mattress. Its latex comfort layer is aerated with pinholes and the coil system provides room for unhindered air circulation through the mattress.

As for pressure relief, the EOS Classic got a 9.5 out of 10.

You can expect a buoyant, responsive, and slightly firmer than average feel from this mattress. It’s not as soft and contouring as memory foam mattresses, but its Plush and Medium versions did provide us ample pressure relief.

The EOS Classic got an 8.7 on motion isolation.

We experienced quite a bit of motion transfer on this mattress. We don’t recommend it if you’re a sensitive sleeper and you share the bed with a partner.

In terms of edge support, the EOS Classic got a 9.7 out of 10.

This mattress has solid edge support. We tried sleeping near the edge of the mattress and we experienced little to no sinkage.

Sweet Night Prime performance

Featuring four different firmness levels in one mattress, the Sweet Night Prime mattress is a one-of-a-kind memory foam mattress that suits all sleeper types including strict back sleepers

On the top side, you’ll find that one half is soft and the other half is medium-soft. While the bottom side of the mattress is divided into medium-firm and firm.

We recommend the Sweet Night mattress for most individuals, but we don’t think it’s supportive enough for heavyweight sleepers (over 300 lbs.).

The Sweet Night Prime got a cooling score of 8.7 out of 10.

The mattress maintained a neutral temperature while we were lying on it.Its gel memory foam comfort layers absorb body heat to keep you from overheating at night.

In terms of pressure relief, we gave the Sweet Night Prime a 9.4 out of 10.

I felt the gel memory foam layers contour to my curves to relieve pressure points. I think that side sleepers in particular will enjoy the soft cushioning this mattress offers for their shoulders and hips.

Emma Hybrid Comfort performance

Coming in at a 6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale, the Emma Hybrid Comfort has a true medium-firm feel.

We recommend it for all sleeper types including plus-size individuals who sleep on their stomachs.

We think its supportive hybrid design enables it to provide lasting support and comfort.

We gave this mattress a 9 out of 10 for cooling.

We did not experience any heat retention on this mattress but it’s also not actively cooling. Overall, it’s a good mattress for individuals who tend to sleep hot at night.

For pressure relief, the Emma Hybrid Comfort got a 9.6 out of 10.

We experienced plenty of pressure relief while lying on the mattressIts contouring memory foam layers to cradled my joints and its zoned support system kept my spine in a neutral and healthy alignment.

We gave the Emma Hybrid Comfort a 9.1 for motion isolation.

We experienced a bit of motion transfer but that’s to be expected on a hybrid mattress. If you sleep with a partner, you might feel their big movements like getting out of the bed but you won’t be disturbed by their usual tossing and turning.

In terms of edge support, the Emma Hybrid Comfort scored a 8.8 out of 10.

One thing we didn’t expect from the Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress is poor edge supportFor a hybrid mattress, its edge support is a bit below average. We felt a considerable amount of sinkage when we tried sleeping or sitting near its edges.

The Emma Hybrid Comfort got an overall score of 9.1 out of 10.

Pros

  • Three different height and firmness options
  • Offers zoned support
  • Made with responsibly-sourced organic materials
  • MADE SAFE certified

Cons

  • Very high price point
  • Not suitable for those looking for a firm mattress

Why it’s one of the best

Of course this list of the best fiberglass-free mattresses wouldn’t be complete without an Avocado mattress.

We chose the Avocado Luxury Organic Mattresses specifically because it’s one of the only latex hybrid mattresses with a truly plush and pressure-relieving feel.

Available in three versions (Medium, Plush, and Ultra Plush), this mattress is one of the most expensive models we’ve ever reviewed. Is it worth the price? Let’s find out together.

Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress performance

The three firmness options of the Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress are on the softer side and are ideal for side sleepers and some back sleepers.

During our testing, we gave each version the following ratings: Medium (5.5), Plush (4), and Ultra Plush (3).

Although it contains a supportive coil system, stomach sleepers might sink into its comfort layers and put their spine and hips out of alignment.

We gave the Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress a 9.3 for cooling.

We definitely enjoyed the natural cooling properties of this mattress. It contains convoluted latex for airflow and it also has moisture-wicking organic wool to aid in temperature regulation. It’s a great choice for hot sleepers.

The Luxury Organic Mattress got a 9.6 in our pressure relief test.

All five of our testers agree that the Avocado Luxury Organic provides excellent pressure relief. Its plush latex comfort layers contour to your body and evenly distribute your weight to alleviate any tension.

This mattress got a 9.3 for motion isolation.

We think the Luxury Organic mattress performed great for a latex hybrid mattressYou don’t have to worry about disturbing your partner while you move around the bed.

In terms of edge support, the Luxury Organic Mattress got an 8.8 out of 10.

One thing we didn’t like about the mattress is its below average edge support. This is due to the fact that it’s a fairly soft mattress that allows your body to sink into its layers. We don’t recommend sleeping near the edge of the bed especially if you’re a plus size sleeper.

The Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress gets an overall score of 9.2 out of 10.

It’s best suited for back and stomach sleepers who don’t need as much cushioning and sinkage as side sleepers.

We gave the Helix Dawn a pressure relief score of 8.9 out of 10.

This mattress did not have good pressure relief when we tried it. It doesn’t have soft foam layers since it’s geared towards back and stomach sleepers.

It’s suitable for all sleeper types including side and back combination sleepers.

Stomach sleepers, on the other hand, should look for a more supportive mattress that will prevent their hips from bowing and causing lower back pain.

We gave the Eco Terra Hybrid a 9.1 out of 10 for cooling.

The Eco Terra Hybrid sleeps temperature-neutral. It won’t trap your body heat but it won’t actively cool you either. Thankfully, natural latex has good ventilation due to its perforated design.

As for pressure relief, we gave the Eco Terra Hybrid a 9.3 out of 10.

I felt the tension in my body disappear when I tried the mattress out for myself. It offers great pressure relief as well as solid lumbar support.

We don’t recommend this mattress if you sleep with a restless partner. It has moderate motion transfer which might disrupt your much-needed sleep.

Why we chose these mattresses

While all the models in this list are mattresses without fiberglass, we also examined the materials used in their construction. We specifically chose organic latex mattresses and some of the best memory foam mattresses that don’t contain fiberglass as a flame retardant.

In addition, we also made sure to check for certifications that ensure that a mattress is safe for both your health and the environment. Some of the certifications that we look out for are GOTS and GOLS for organic mattresses, as well as CertiPUR-US and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 for foam beds.

FAQs

Why are fiberglass mattresses bad?

If released into the air, fiberglass particles can irritate your eyes, skin, and lungs. Fiberglass shards also cause rashes, itching, and blister if it comes into contact with your skin.

How do I know if a mattress is a fiberglass-free?

You should check the tag for fiberglass or glass fiber. Other than that, check if a mattress says “do not remove cover” on its label. In our experience, there’s a 90% chance that a mattress uses a fiberglass flame retardant.

Conclusion

It’s certainly not easy to ascertain which mattresses have fiberglass and which ones don’t – you need to do your due diligence especially in checking what materials a mattress is made up of. Fiberglass in mattresses can be detrimental to a person’s health in more ways than one and usually for the long term.

We hope you found this article helpful in your fiberglass-free mattress search. All the mattresses we selected offer great value, comfort, support, and most importantly, zero amounts of fiberglass.
