Acid reflux can be a pain (quite literally), especially if you’re trying to get some much needed sleep. Over 20% of Americans suffer from GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) and almost everyone will suffer from acid reflux at some point in their lives. Whether your condition is chronic or temporary, having the right mattress may just help you get the relief that you deserve. We’ve tested over a hundred mattresses and we’ve narrowed our list down to the best 7 mattresses we believe would be best for acid reflux. Our Editor’s Choice is the Saatva Solaire.
Top 7 Best Mattresses for Acid Reflux

Saatva Solaire performance
Where do we even begin describing 50 different firmness levels to you?
And if you think that’s impossible think again.
The Saatva Solaire mattress uses the same unit of measurement as that of blood pressure monitors which is the most precise scientific standard of pressure – mm/HG (millimetres of mercury).
This makes the Saatva Solaire mattress a mattress that’s suitable for just about anyone – young and old alike.
You get all the firmness levels, extra-soft to extra-firm and everything else in between, in just one mattress.
What’s more is that you can even choose different firmness levels for either side of the mattress when you opt for larger mattress sizes (Queen and up) making the Saatva Solaire an excellent choice for couples.
When it comes to pressure relief, we rate the Saatva Solaire a 9.8.
The combination of natural latex and gel memory foam gives the Saatva Solaire a pressure relieving true memory foam feel that takes pressure off your main pressure points but without any of that dreaded sunk-in feel.
We rate the Saatva Solaire mattress a 9.5 when it comes to cooling.
The latex foam layer of the Saatva Solaire once more comes into play, this time when it comes to the mattress’ cooling capabilities. Organic latex is naturally cooling and combined with the vulcanized air pods and moisture barriers, make the Saatva Solaire a bed that does not retain heat.
The Saatva Solaire mattress gets a 9.8 from us when it comes to motion isolation.
Though technically not a hybrid mattress since it does not really have a coil unit, the air pods work very well together with the gel-infused foam to keep motion transfer at bay. And if you choose any of the larger mattress sizes, you can actually opt for dual air chambers which essentially works like a split mattress which in turn can give you virtually no motion transfer.
We found edge support to be exceptional in the Saatva Solaire mattress hence why we’re rating it a 9.8.
Once again, thanks to the vulcanized air chambers, the Saatva Solaire maintains even firmness throughout including all along its edges.
Oh, one more thing, if you’re worried about any cables showing or any noise coming from changing the firmness levels, the Saatva Solaria’s design accounts for a reinforced power edge enclosure that houses the quiet air inflator and hoses out of sight.
The Saatva Solaire gets a rating of 9.7 for overall performance.

Alternative pick: Saatva RX
If you want something slightly (take this word with a grain of salt) cheaper than the Saatva Solaire, check out the Saatva RX mattress.
Although the Saatva Rx only comes in one firmness level – which is a medium-firm – it can accommodate most sleeping positions, including strict side sleepers.
Like the Saatva Solaire, the Saatva RX mattress is also compatible with an adjustable bed frame which allows you to elevate your mattress to help do away with nighttime acid reflux.
#2. Naturepedic EOS Classic
Why it’s one of the best
It’s pretty rare for latex mattress brands to offer mattresses that have customizable firmnesses but Naturepedic not only offers latex mattresses that can be customized, you actually do the customizing yourself at any time you want.
You can swap out the layers instead of buying an entirely new mattress which is sustainable and better for the environment.
Pure, organic latex is naturally cooling and hypoallergenic, making the Naturepedic EOS Classic a good choice for acid reflux sufferers who are also hot sleepers as well as those who suffer from seasonal allergies.

Naturepedic EOS Classic performance
You get to choose between 5 different firmness levels for all the layers of your Naturepedic EOS Classic mattress: Plush, Medium, Luxury Firm, Firm and Extra-Firm (we talk a lot about this in our full Naturepedic EOS Classic review)
For Queen sizes and up, you can choose between two different sets of layers so if you share a bed with a partner who has a different firmness preference than you do, you can do so with ease.
What’s more is that you can swap out the layers at any time you want should your preferences change. This makes the Naturepedic EOS Classic mattress a good choice for all sleeper types – from strict side sleepers to back and stomach sleepers.
When it comes to pressure relief, we rate the the Naturepedic EOS Classic a 9.5.
Although pure latex is naturally springier in feel than traditional memory foam, the latex foam layers in the EOS Classic did a pretty good job in keeping all the pressure off our main pressure points, especially if you choose the plush foam layers.
It’s a little different when it comes to motion isolation. We found that you get lesser motion transfer if you choose the firmer layers although that’s not to say that the softer layers are bad at isolating any cross mattress movement, they work fairly well for a responsive latex hybrid mattress. This gets an 8.7 from us.
We rate it a 6 out of 10 for edge support.
Edge support is where the Naturepedic EOS Classic falls short. There really isn’t anything holding the layers together except for the mattress cover so if you are someone who prefers to sleep close to the edge of the bed, the Naturepedic EOS Classic mattress may not be the right mattress for you.
We rate the Naturepedic EOS Classic mattress a 9.5 when it comes to cooling.
As you probably already know, organic latex is naturally cooling and when combined with the pocketed coil unit in the Naturepedic bed makes for a pretty breathable mattress.
We did not experience any off-gassing with the Naturepedic mattress but bear in mind, natural latex has a distinct earth scent, especially when you first unbox it. This is normal and will dissipate within days.
Overall, we rate the Naturepedic mattress an 8.4 out of 10.

Alternative pick: Naturepedic EOS Trilux
If you prefer something without any springs, you might want to check out the Naturepedic EOS Trilux.
It’s made up of exactly the same natural and organic latex foam layers as the EOS Classic but it does not contain a coil unit. A bit more contouring than the EOS Classic, the Naturepedic EOS Trilux mattress also works with adjustable beds which is crucial for those who suffer from acid reflux.
#3. Bear Elite Hybrid
Why it’s one of the best
If you’re someone who leads a more active lifestyle and you suffer from acid reflux, you couldn’t do better than the Bear Elite Hybrid.
Made with proprietary foam layers, fabric encased coils and featuring a cover that’s made from a blend of Celliant fiber and phase change material (we talk about this in detail in our full Bear Elite Hybrid review), the Bear Elite Hybrid mattress not only offers support and pressure relief but it also helps jumpstart recovery while you sleep.

Bear Elite Hybrid performance
You get to choose between 3 different firmness options with the Bear Elite Hybrid: Soft, Medium and Firm.
Strict side sleepers would do well with the soft version while the vast majority of sleepers would feel comfortable on the Medium version.
Those who sleep strictly on their backs and stomachs would get more support on the firmest option.
There’s no question about the Bear Hybrid’s performance when it comes to pressure relief, that’s why we give it a rating of 9.8 out of 10.
The copper-infused memory foam comfort layer offers contouring and cushioning right where you would need it the most regardless of sleeping position (and yes, even if you’re a staunch stomach sleeper).
We rate the Bear Elite Hybrid a 9.5 when it comes to cooling.
Having GERD as a hot sleeper is probably the worst combo so an actively cooling mattress is your best bet. All of the Bear Hybrid’s interior layers feature cooling qualities from the Celliant and phase change material on the mattress cover to the copper-infused foam to the pocketed coil unit.
The memory foam layer absorbed all movement hence why we rate it a 9.6 for motion isolation.
We barely felt any motion transfer when we tried the Bear Elite Hybrid out with a partner.
The Bear Elite Hybrid mattress also excels when it comes to edge support, garnering a score of 9.5 out of 10.
Edge to edge coils line the perimeter of the mattress offering both support and stability.
We did experience a tiny amount of off-gassing when we first unboxed the mattress but this dissipated within 24 hours.
Overall, the Bear Elite Hybrid gets a score of 9.6 out of 10 for performance.

Alternative pick: Bear Star Hybrid
Slightly cheaper but still actively cooling, the Bear Star Hybrid mattress is another alternative to the Bear Elite Hybrid.
Featuring the same mattress cover that contains Celliant and PCM, the Bear Star Hybrid uses gel-infused foam instead of the Bear Elite Hybrid’s copper foam, making the Bear Star Hybrid mattress a more affordable alternative.
#4. The WinkBed

Featuring a quilted Euro pillow top, a gel-infused memory foam comfort layer and individually wrapped pocketed coils, the WinkBed mattress offers plush comfort and superior pressure relief.
It is also compatible with adjustable bed frames that could help sleepers with severe GERD.

The WinkBed performance
The WinkBed mattress comes in 4 different firmness options including a Plus option which is specifically made for heavier-set individuals.
The firmness levels range from Softer to Luxury Firm to Firmer which can suit all sleeper types including strict back sleepers.
We rate the WinkBed mattress a 9.8 for pressure relief.
The plush Euro pillow top surface along with the gel memory foam offers maximum pressure relief without any of the sinkage usually associated with traditional memory foam beds.
We rate the WinkBed mattress a 9.1 when it comes to cooling.
Although not actively cooling like the other beds on this list, the WinkBed mattress still did a pretty good job at keeping heat at bay, thanks in part to its combination of gel-infused foam and pocketed coils.
We rate the WinkBed mattress a 9.5 when it comes to motion isolation.
We barely felt any movement when we tried the WinkBed mattress out with a partner making it an excellent choice for those who share a bed.
Edge support is another thing the WinkBed mattress excels at, getting a score of 9.7.
This is largely due to WinkBeds’ very own Extra-Edge support system.
We experienced a small amount of off-gassing with the WinkBed mattress but nothing too crazy. This disappeared within a day or two.
We rate the WinkBed mattress a 9.6 out of 10 for overall performance.

Alternative pick: WinkBeds Eco Cloud
If you want a latex foam comfort layer instead of a gel-foam pillow top, try the WinkBeds Eco Cloud.
Featuring Talalay latex as its main comfort layer, the WinkBeds Eco Cloud offers more responsive support than the WinkBeds mattress plush contouring support. Latex is also naturally cooling and hypoallergenic making the WinkBeds Eco Cloud mattress a great choice for acid reflux sufferers who also tend to sleep hot.
#5. Helix Midnight Luxe
Why it’s one of the best
Stomach sleepers don’t really get a lot of love – in fact, they get a lot of hate (and I should know, I am one of them) but here’s something for all my fellow stomach sleeping lovers out there.
The Helix Midnight Luxe mattress contains blend of proprietary memory foam and up to a thousand individually wrapped coils for optimum pressure relief and cushioning support.
Although the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress is suitable for different sleep positions, we found it best serves those who sleep primarily on their tummies.
And of course, the Helix Midnight Luxe works with adjustable bed bases – perfect for GERD and acid reflux sufferers.

Helix Midnight Luxe performance
The Helix Midnight Luxe sits on a 6 – 6.5 on the mattress firmness scale which makes it a medium-firm mattress.
Although a medium-firm mattress suits most sleeping positions, we found the Helix Midnight Luxe to be best for stomach sleepers as it provides firm, even support all throughout without compromising its pressure relieving properties.
We rate it a 9.7 when it comes to pressure relief.
Speaking of pressure relief, we found the Helix Midnight Luxe to offer superb pressure relief thanks to its copper gel memory foam layer.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress a 9.4 when it comes to cooling.
We experience absolutely no heat buildup on the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress even though it has not one but two memory foam layers. This is because Helix’s memory foam layers contain copper gel which help do away with heat retention.
We rate it a 9.3 when it comes to motion isolation.
Depending on your or your partner’s body weight, you might experience a tiny amount of motion transfer on the Midnight Helix Luxe mattress if you share your bed with a partner.
We rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9.5 when it comes to edge support.
The Helix Midnight Luxe mattress did very well on our edge support test and we felt very well-supported whether we were seated or lying flat very close to the edge of the bed.
We experience some really strong off-gassing upon initial unboxing but this dissipated within 48 hours.
Overall, we rate the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9.5 for performance.

#6. Avocado Green
Why it’s one of the best
The terms natural and all-organic have become key selling points when it comes to just about everything but not a lot of mattress brands can lay claim to being truly natural and all-organic, except for the Avocado Green mattress (and if you want to take it up a notch, they also have a Vegan mattress, go check).
Containing a blend of Talalay latex, organic wool, organic cotton and recycled steel coils, the Avocado Green mattress offers not only relief for those who suffer from acid reflux but it is also one of the very few mattresses endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association.

Avocado Green performance
The Avocado Green mattress comes in 3 different firmness options: Plush, Medium and Firm. This makes it suitable for all sleeper types including side and combination sleepers.
We rate the Avocado Green mattress a 9.5 when it comes to pressure relief.
While not as deep contouring as say, a true memory foam mattress, the Avocado Green mattress’ latex foam comfort layer still provided us with some much needed pressure relief in all areas.
We rate the Avocado Green mattress a 9 when it comes to cooling.
Pure latex, by nature, is already pretty cooling and when combined with pocketed steel coils and organic wool like in the Avocado Green mattress makes for a bed that’s great at temperature regulation.
But for the same reason as above, the Avocado Green mattress fared a little less than stellar when it comes to motion isolation, garnering a score of 8.9.
Coils are springy and natural latex is pretty bouncy so depending on the weight of your partner, you might feel a small of movement if you share a bed.
We found the Avocado Green mattress to have strong edge support and we gave it a score of 9.5.
Overall, we rate the Avocado Green mattress a 9.2 out of 10 for performance.

Alternative pick: Avocado Eco Organic
Want slightly more affordable than the Avocado Green mattress? Check out the Avocado Eco Organic mattress.
Yes, it also contains latex (although not Talalay but still certified organic latex) as well as recycled steel coils, organic wool and organic cotton. Slight differences but the same idea. The Avocado Eco Organic also only comes in one mattress firmness which is a Gentle Firm, unlike the Avocado Green’s three.
#7. Nolah Evolution 15
Why it’s one of the best
A supportive mattress is what we all need but heavier-set individuals more so.

And one of those mattresses is the Nolah Evolution 15.
Newly revamped complete with an entirely new look, the Nolah Evolution 15 is not only supportive and pressure relieving but cooling as well.

Alternative pick: Nolah Evolution Comfort+

Why we picked these mattresses
Function and form but more so, function and features are the reasons why we chose these mattresses for those who suffer from acid reflux or it’s more chronic cousin GERD.
For those who suffer from acid reflux, a bed that is adjustable is imperative in that it allows the stomach acid to stay where it should stay (which is in the stomach and not your throat).
Of course, we also chose these mattresses for their pressure relieving, cooling and motion isolating properties as well as options in firmnesses to be able to cater to all sleeper types.

FAQs
An adjustable mattress that works with an adjustable bed is the best mattress for those that suffer from acid reflux as it helps elevate the head whilst sleeping which in turn helps the stomach acid stay down.
A mattress that elevate will absolutely help with acid reflux as it allows you to control the height of your bed so you can sleep in a position that helps keep your stomach acids down.
Conclusion
Adjustable mattresses are the best mattresses to choose if you suffer from acid reflux, especially if it has become a chronic condition.
Depending on your other needs and preferences, it is important to also choose mattresses that help offer pressure relief, support as well as comfort.
