Base models among mattress lines don’t usually get a lot of love – in fact, most of them get overlooked entirely. But the Helix Dusk promises to deliver practically the same benefits as their supercharged Luxe and Elite models… at a much more affordable price. Of course I had to try it out for myself.

Our experience with the Helix Dusk Mattress

I won’t beat around the bush here – the Helix Dusk is a great choice if you’re a single sleeper who sleeps mostly on your back or stomach.

If that does not sound like you then you can stop reading right now.

For everyone else, here’s what I think about it.

Helix rates their baseline Dusk mattress as a medium firmness level… but I find it to be more on the medium-firm side.

This means it can provide better support and pressure relief for stomach sleepers and back sleepers.

Strict side sleepers, however, will need something a little softer.

Another thing I liked a lot about the Helix Dusk is its cooling capabilities.

For a mattress that contains multiple layers of normally very heat-retentive memory foam, it actually didn’t retain any heat whatsoever. It maintained a pretty cool temperature throughout the night.

Couples beware though – motion isolation are two words Helix’s engineers seem to have forgotten when they designed this one.

I said what I said.

Firmness

Helix Dusk firmness level

As I’ve mentioned, Helix calls their Dusk mattress a medium but I beg to differ – it feels more like a medium-firm to me which is around a 6 on the mattress firmness scale.

Although medium-firm mattresses are usually good for most sleeper types, I find that this mattress is best for those who sleep on their backs and stomachs.

Side sleepers just won’t get enough pressure relief.

Since it’s a hybrid mattress, the Helix Dusk is good for heavyweight sleepers. It will provide you with the extra support you need.

Cooling Test

We rate the Helix Dusk mattress a 9 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.

Surprisingly, it only contains two types of actively-cooling materials: cooling gel-infused memory foam and a cooling cover.

For a mattress that contains multiple layers of manmade foam, it sleeps quite cool and is an excellent choice for hot sleepers.

Motion Transfer Test

We rate the Helix Dusk mattress a 6 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.

Ah Helix. You were doing so well.

Front end of the Helix Dusk mattress
Motion transfer isn’t a strong suit of this mattress, unfortunately.

Despite its multiple layers of foam, the Helix Dusk’s coil unit is pretty substantial and thicker than its foam layers contributing to the mattress’ very poor motion absorption.

I felt every single movement when I tried the mattress out with a partner.

Edge Support Test

We rate the Helix Dusk mattress an 8.5 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.

Edge support test on the Helix Dusk mattress
The edge support is solid.

The mattress contains reinforced-edge coils that help give it extra support around the entire perimeter.

This actually allows you sleep on more of the mattress surface instead of being forced to stay smack dab in the middle.

Also, if you sleep weird like I do and like to sleep close to the edge of the bed, you won’t find yourself on the floor in the middle of the night.

Pressure Relief Test

We rate the Helix Dusk mattress an 8 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.

Helix Dusk pressure test
In my experience, pressure relief is a standout feature of the Helix Dusk.

You already know that I find the Helix Dusk to be more of a medium-firm instead of a medium and as a stomach sleeper, it offers me just the right amount of pressure relief, especially in my hips and shoulders.

Back sleepers also get more than enough lumbar support and pressure relief on a medium-firm mattress like this one.

Construction

There are seven layers in the Helix Dusk.

These layers come encased in a breathable knit cotton cover. You can also choose to upgrade to a GlacioTex cooling pillow top for a small fee.

Helix Dusk corner
There are seven (7!) layers to the Helix Dusk.

The first layer is made up of gel memory foam that’s designed to cradle your joints and body for pressure relief.

Underneath that lies a proprietary foam called Helix Dynamic foam, a latex foam hybrid that provides responsive support.

Next comes another proprietary foam called the Helix Responsive foam which provides even more support.

Another layer of Helix Responsive foam acts as a transition layer between the foam layers and the coil unit of the mattress.

The coil unit of the Helix Dusk is made up of up to a thousand individually-wrapped steel coils that help provide support and structure to the mattress.

The base layer is made up of DuraDense, a high density foam that helps keep the mattress stable.

Durability

I have tried more than a couple of Helix mattresses by now and I can safely say that the Dusk lives up to the standards set up by the company’s other mattress models.

It’s made out of premium and high quality materials and made entirely in the USA.

With proper care and maintenance, the Helix Dusk will last you a very long time.

Evolution of the Helix Dusk and Previous Versions

During the first quarter of 2025, Helix revamped most of their mattress lines (which include the Helix Dusk and Helix Midnight) to include a sleeker, more streamlined look as well as material upgrades such as Tencel covers, graphite-infused/titanium-infused foam and micro-coils.

While some mattresses have bumped up significantly in price, many remained the same despite the changes and upgrades.

Helix Midnight

If you’re a side sleeper and need something softer, check out the Helix Midnight mattress.

The mattress has a medium-firm feel that’s soft enough for side sleepers and combination sleepers.

I like that it provides enough pressure point relief.

Where to buy the Helix Dusk mattress

The best place to buy the Helix Dusk mattress is Helix’s official website.

I always recommend buying directly from the brand whenever possible because by doing so, you’re ensuring that you get full customer service and warranty support.

When you buy direct from the manufacturer you can also take advantage of Sleepline’s official coupon codes. In this case the code SLEEPLINE20 will knock 20% off the purchase price.

Buying a mattress from secondary retailers is always a crap shoot, but if you really want to you can get it from WalMart or Amazon.

Conclusion

The Helix Dusk is best if you sleep on either your back or stomach.

It can wreak havoc on the main pressure points of strict side sleepers, so if that’s you then you might want to look elsewhere.

Although it has excellent edge support which allows you to use more of the mattress surface, the Helix Dusk is more of a single-sleeper bed than a bed for couples.

All in all, for its price point, the Helix Dusk delivers on most fronts, just not all.
