The Pro Hybrid is a budget-friendly option to the more expensive mattresses in Bear’s lineup. Bear claims that this mattress will help you get a cooler, more comfortable night of sleep. But does it really work? I personally tested it out. Here’s what I think.

Our experience with the Bear Pro Hybrid Mattress
I can’t say I was underwhelmed exactly and I definitely can’t say I was overwhelmed with the Bear Pro Hybrid – I guess I was just “whelmed”.
The mattress performed ok overall, especially when it comes to edge support.
But everything else was just average – you get enough pressure relief but only if you sleep on your back or stomach; you get temperature regulation but only if you choose the Celliant cover option (which costs extra).
I guess they were trying to keep the costs down on this one.
But this is not to say that it performed badly.
It’s not the worst mattress to sleep on, let me tell you that now, but it’s also not the best.
Firmness
The Bear Pro Hybrid has a medium-firm feel which is around a 6.5 on the firmness scale.
Usually, medium-firm mattresses are good for most sleeper types but I found that the Bear Pro Hybrid is better for back sleepers and stomach sleepers.
Lightweight side sleepers might find it to be a little too firm for comfort.
If you weigh more than 200 lbs., the Bear Pro Hybrid will still be be supportive thanks to the substantial coil support core.
Cooling Test
We rate the Bear Pro Hybrid a 7 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Here’s the thing though, you’ll need to pay extra to get the Celliant cover option which is, funnily enough, the one feature that not only helps with muscle recovery but also helps with temperature regulation.
So, if you choose not to go with the Celliant cover option, you might find that it actually sleeps a little bit hot.
Motion Transfer Test
We rate the Bear Pro Hybrid a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
Remember the substantial coil unit I was talking about earlier?
Although it comes pocketed (which is supposed to help with motion transfer), I still felt a good amount of cross-mattress movement when I tried it out with a partner.
This mattress isn’t your best bet if you share a bed with a partner or a pet.
Edge Support Test
We rate the Bear Pro Hybrid a 9 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The mattress contains reinforced edge coils. These coils give the mattress better support all along the entire perimeter.
This makes sure you do NOT roll off the edge of the bed.
If that’s something you’re worried about, then I definitely recommend this mattress. The edge support is that good.
Pressure Relief Test
We rate the Bear Pro Hybrid a 7 out of 10 when it comes to comfort and pressure relief.
The main comfort layer is made from cooling gel-infused memory foam that conforms to your body and does a fairly good job at relieving pressure from painful joints (shoulders, hips, etc.)
Back and stomach sleepers in particular will get the most benefit from this mattress. If you’re a side sleeper, you might find it a bit too firm depending on your weight (if you’re lightweight, it’ll be too firm; heavier sleepers should be OK).
Construction
The Bear Pro Hybrid mattress has three layers.
These layers come encased in a cotton quilt cover that can be upgraded to a Celliant cover with an additional fee.
The top comfort layer is made up of gel-infused memory foam that provides conforms to your body shape.
The next foam layer is made up of so-called ‘Bear Dynamic foam’ which helps support your body. This layer also acts as the transition layer.
The coil unit is made up of individually-wrapped steel coils. This is the base layer that provides stability to the entire mattress. This layer also features enhanced edge coils which help with edge support.
Durability
There’s no denying that the Pro Hybrid, just like other Bear mattresses (e.g. the Natural and the Original) are made from quality materials that are designed to last a very long time especially with proper care and maintenance.
When it comes to value for money, you do get what you pay for when it comes to the Bear Pro Hybrid.

The Bear Pro Hybrid mattress comes in seven standard sizes and measures ten inches in thickness. It’s compatible with most bed frames, bases and foundations.
