Our experience with the SweetNight CoolNest Mattress
Underwhelming is one word I could use to describe my overall experience with the SweetNight CoolNest mattress.
It isn’t bad (well – if you’re not a strict side sleeper who weighs less than average) but it didn’t really wow me either.
The SweetNight CoolNest mattress is just ok.
But for its price point, I really shouldn’t complain and you shouldn’t either, especially if you’re a back or stomach sleeper and you share a bed with someone who is also either a back or stomach sleeper.
Because if there’s one thing I applaud the SweetNight CoolNest mattress for, it’s the complete lack of motion transfer. So yeay there.
Also, for an all-foam mattress, the SweetNight CoolNest is pretty cooling, which is a nice surprise, because as we all know by now, foam mattresses are usually notorious for being heat-retentive.
But everything else just falls flat.
Don’t even get me started on its edge support (which, of course, I’ll talk about more below).
Firmness
The SweetNight website calls the CoolNest mattress a true medium but upon trying it, I think it feels more like a medium-firm, which is a 6 to 7 on the mattress firmness scale.
While most medium-firm mattresses can accommodate most sleeper types, the SweetNight CoolNest mattress may be a little too firm for strict side sleepers who generally need something softer.
Since the SweetNight CoolNest is an all-foam mattress, it won’t be able to give heavier-set sleepers the extra support that they need.
Hybrid mattresses are the best at providing extra support for those that weigh well over 200 lbs.
Cooling Test
We rate the SweetNight CoolNest an 8 out of 10 when it comes to cooling.
Like I mentioned previously, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the SweetNight CoolNest actually sleeps pretty cool for an all-foam mattress.
Yes, it does contain memory foam, but the foam layer of the SweetNight CoolNest is actually a proprietary memory foam blend that’s infused with cooling gel instead of straight-up memory foam.
The mattress cover is also made from a special fabric that features 3D weaving and microvents (which I think is just marketing speak for breathable) that allow heat to escape, but hey it helps.
The first layer of the SweetNight CoolNest is also infused with phase change particles that help keep the mattress cool.
Motion Transfer Test
We rate the SweetNight CoolNest a 10 out of 10 when it comes to motion isolation.
It’s no secret that all-foam mattresses are particularly good at absorbing any cross mattress movement and the SweetNight CoolNest is no exception.
In fact, the SweetNight CoolNest mattress performs amazingly well when it comes to motion isolation.
I did not feel any movement whatsoever when I tried it out with a partner.
Edge Support Test
We rate the SweetNight CoolNest a 6 out of 10 when it comes to edge support.
The lack of reinforced edges could be the main culprit here, but compared to other all-foam mattresses, the edge support on the SweetNight CoolNest is abysmal.
In fact, it’s pretty much non-existent. You WILL roll off the edge of the bed if you try sleeping close to the edge.
Pressure Relief/Comfort Test
We rate the SweetNight CoolNest a 6.5 out of 10 when it comes to pressure relief and overall comfort.
This could have been a tad higher but the fact that the SweetNight CoolNest is marketed as a true medium, but is in fact a medium-firm which severely limits its ability to provide enough pressure relief for the majority of sleeper types.
The SweetNight CoolNest is a medium-firm and can only provide pressure relief for back and stomach sleepers.
Construction
There are 5 layers to the SweetNight CoolNest mattress.
All these layers come encased in a proprietary mattress cover that features 3D weaving and micro-vents that make it breathable and cool to the touch.
The first layer of the SweetNight CoolNest is made up of high resilience foam that’s infused with phase change particles to help with heat retention and help keep the surface of the mattress cool.
Below that lies a layer of cooling gel-infused memory foam that helps provide contouring and compression while also helping do away with heat retention.
Underneath that lies another layer of proprietary memory foam, but this layer is more responsive and does not have that ‘stuck in the mud’ feel that’s usually associated with traditional memory foam.
Next comes a transition layer that’s made up of high density foam that helps provide even more support.
The base layer of the SweetNight CoolNest is slightly different. Similar to the transition layer it’s also made up of high density foam but it also features up to 9 support “bars” that are also made of foam and act like a coil unit that provides targeted support.
Durability
Even with its more affordable price point, the SweetNight CoolNest is made with good quality materials and can stand the test of time especially with proper mattress care and maintenance.
Obviously, if you compare it to higher-end brands, then the longevity will differ wildly, but I found that SweetNight mattresses can still hold their own.
Sizes
The SweetNight CoolNest mattress comes in four standard sizes and three different thickness options (12 inches, 14 inches, 16 inches).
It is compatible with most bed frames, foundations and bases including an adjustable base.
